2.
The world's gone mad!
I know! Two knobs on a Jazz! Whatever next?
 3.
My guitar teacher from a few years ago claimed to have dropped a Peavey Bandit out of a loft in a barn - said the spiky logo badge was broken but the amp still worked fine!
That would not surprise me in the slightest. These amps are built to last.
 4. I've got the older Max 700 head, which is good for what it is. Very loud, but very plain-sounding. No character. If your bass sounds right for the job, and the cab fits well with the head, you'll have no trouble. Built like a brick sh*thouse. My old Max 450 fell out of a moving car. 1 small dent on a corner. I fired it up a few minutes later... no problems at all. Worked like a dream until I sold it to get the 700. The new Tour series looks to have a few improvements/additions, and a massive drop in weight. The Max 700 weighs about 25 kg. The Tour 700 weighs about 10 or 11 kg. If you like it plain and unexciting, go for it!
 5. There's been a bit of a "what's the point of BGM?" thing going on here, and I've been thinking about it. To an extent, I agree: magazines like BGM are becoming largely redundant in the internet age, and all the information contained in the magazine is freely available on the internet. But the thing is, we're physical, tactile creatures. I, for one, love to hold and read a book, magazine or newspaper. At the risk of sounding extremely poncy, it's an immediate medium. Every month (or thereabouts ) a magazine plops through my letterbox, and it contains all sorts of information and news that I've had to make no effort to find. If I wanted to find out everything in the magazine via the internet, I'm pretty sure I could, but I might not necessarily look for it in the first place. Basically, it exposes us to information that we might not seek out independently, and that can only be a good thing. /babbling
 6.
I love the directions in this one... Release the penguins!
That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen! (...in a music-geek kind of way) I love that chord just before letter J. And the "mute in... mute out... mute in... sell mute".
 7.
Son Of A Preacher Man always gets the mention, but for me, Tommy Cogbill made far more important and influential records when he recorded the likes of Memphis Soul Stew and the early Atlantic Aretha Franklin, like Do Right Woman.
Noted! I'll seek them out... I'm no Cogbill expert. I just have Dusty in Memphis on the playlist in my shop, so I hear those basslines day in, day out. I never tire of them. The simplicity and fluidity just add an extra layer of depth to the songs. Awesome.
 8.
Makes note of ... Tommy Cogbill
Big +1 for Tommy Cogbill. Just listen to Dusty in Memphis, particularly "I Don't Want to Hear It Any More" and "Son of a Preacher Man". Now that's a bass player.
 9. All this talk of Dave Lee Roth has got me thinking of a different Dave Lee... Now that's a wig I'd like to see in a tribute band.
 10.
If I were him I'd lose them demo vids. They do absoloutley nothing to inspire me on how the bass sounds.
+1000 What's with the technique? Playing with his thumb around the 12th fret? That's the perfect recipe for maximum clank and bwoowwwwww noises. Not even chorus and reverb can cover that up.
 11. I've got an 11-year-old Trace Elliot Super Tramp Twin guitar amp that's developed a bit of a problem. Well, actually, it's a huge problem. When you turn it on, it just emits a horrendous earth-type hum... at full volume. 100W of full volume. I don't know where the problem lies. I'm not a hugely amp-techy kinda person, so I'm not too keen on even getting into the innards. My guess is that something's died and shorted in the SS power stage, but I suppose it could be the preamp valve. I'm looking to sell the amp, so obviously I need to get it seen to first. Anybody know a decent amp repairer they can recommend in/near Newcastle? I'd prefer not to have to go to Sunderland... sorry... not to have to go as far as Sunderland. I'm in Corbridge, so it's a bit of a trek down there.
 12.
Yeah, I was only referring to ME there ..........
Ah, gotcha. Still, though, check out Jim Lampi. IIRC, some of his stuff's a bit noodly-instrumental-w*nk, but he's a real master of the Stick. As it were. :brow:
 13.
sing + chapman stick = don't even think about suggesting it!!!!!
When I was at Newcastle College, a guy called Jim Lampi came along and proved you wrong. Awesome. Did a particularly stunning rendition of Fisherman's Dream by John Martyn.
 14. Any sign of the new issue yet? I've been putting up with Flea's unbearable face for about six weeks now. So much for monthly...
 15.
Looks like this batch will be done by early next week...
Fo' shizzle? The mythical Vintage is within my grasp!
 16. If your guitarist's drive is coming from a pedalboard (rather than the amp's drive channel), you might find that a simple solid-state bass head does the job. Plenty of clean power. That's what we do in my band. Les Paul > Big Muff > old 150W Carlsbro bass head > two 4x12s = massive sound with minimal weight. Apart from the two 4x12s, obviously.
 17.
...The song is very average, but Pino's bass is gusset-dampeningly fabulous.
Same goes for much of Paul Young's No Parlez album. Especially "Sex". What a terrible way to end an album, but what a lovely bass riff.
 18.
Problem with leaving basses on hangers is that they collect dust and kill strings.
Well, I've got a duster and I play on dead flats, so it's all good.
 19. And just as an aside, the TAB renders much better if you whack it in "codebox" tags: [codebox]G:------------------------------------------------2------2---0h2-----| D:-2---2---0h2---------2---0h2---4------4---2h4----------------------| A:---------------2-------------------------------------------------2-|x1 E:-------------------------------------------------------------------| [/codebox]
 20. And that looks suspiciously like the bassline to It's My Life by Talk Talk. Did No Doubt do a cover?
 21.
I have to learn It's My Life by No Doubt. Its not difficult but i thought i would check out the Tab. my question is whats the oh2 in this tab. ta. G:------------------------------------------------2------2---0h2-----| D:-2---2---0h2---------2---0h2---4------4---2h4----------------------| A:---------------2-------------------------------------------------2-|x1 E:-------------------------------------------------------------------|
Hammer on from open to 2nd fret (i.e. don't pluck the note on the 2nd fret).
 22. Well, I've just measured the actual width at the nut, and it's a touch under 47 mm, so I think it's worth a crack. If you see one of these hangers in the For Sale section in the next few days... you'll know it didn't work out. Thanks for the info, people.
 23.
No, he just didn't make them for plebs...
I stand corrected. (said the man in the orthopaedic shoes) That Hendrix 12-string is quite, quite lovely.
 24.
This perturbs me. It looks like a P, but it's got J pickups. Surely it will sound more like a J than a P? To me, a P without a P pickup is not a P.
A P with J pickups would still feel like a P, in terms of body and neck, even if it sounds like a J. And that's got to count for something, right?
 25.
Haha NO!!! I used to own an amazing one but it was stolen
Ooooh, is that a sort of lovely racing green ( ), or has my monitor gone nuts?
