Even if all of it is true it still makes no sense for me from the market point of view except if the Sadowsky US operations would go so narrow that they (the brand) in fact need someting else in that price bracket to serve the demand. As I have gathered the info Roger was looking for a solution to solve the distribution / process issues he had with the Metro line made by Yoshi and the MetroExpress made some other Japaneese factory / workshop but in the same time he had cut back on the US operations, too. If that is because he no longer needs to take care all the work related to overseas basses plus accesories, strings, preamp etc distribution or he is gonna be cutting back on the number of US made instruments (basses, guitars, archtops) as well I don't know but I guess time will tell. I have a huge respect for him and I honestly hope that this would turn out well for him in the end. -

I wonder how much of this Ww Masterbuilt 7K pricing is a similar marketing plot that Ibanez does sometimes with their Prestige and some artist models (Willis, Nitti, Weasley) that they do a limited run of high end isntruments with prices to match to make the perception of the normal line of the instruments elevate to a higher price bracket, a kind of justification for their pricing. Because nobody in their right mind would pay more for a licensed product than a bass built by the man himself, regardless the features and the quality. It is like a Czech made Spector Euro with full blown extra-hyper-out of this world specs would cost more than a US made on made by Stuart and crew (I know he is retired, but just for an example. I have a couple of Euro and US Spectors and they had quite a bit of the same thing going on like Sadowsky and his Metro line, even if Yoshi's operation was on a different scale than New Bohemia in the CzRepublic) -
It took me a long time to begin appreciating the tone of the P bass and my 1977 helped a lot in the process, even if it is not exactly the classic P sound as discussed above. The other thing is the ergonomics, while I hade Fender-like P basses in the past, I vastly prefer the sleek NS-design. The design itself has very little effect (if any, apart from being a neck trough instrument) on the tone but it has a lot on me wanting to play the bass because it is more comfortable for me.

I have a few other basses that are dear to me. An Atelier jazz5, a MM SR5 and a couple of MIJ Prestige Ibby sixers. There are a few basses on the bucket list of basses I'd like to own at least for a trial period but nothing gets my blood as pumped as a Spector in the classifieds 😄

Only nr 30? 😀😀😀 Looking forward to seeing that Forte. I have one and really like it albeit I seldom use it for the time being (it is a six string bass)

It wasn't me either 🙂 What's the specs for the Forte your are getting? As for the others, strangely I only have gas for Spectors. Ok, maybe a few others that are on the list but.... Strage as I never ever collected anything material in my life and now in my mid 40's ending up a bunch of basses that keep growing....

Yes. Part of that bass's charm that got me is that tone, like a P meets a Stingray sort of sound, or a P with more mids and bite.

Yes, I'm in Hungary. If you import anything from the outside of EU you have to pay the local VAT (which is 27% in Hungary) plus duty. This is regardless the item is new or used, the big difference is that with new items the shop, like bass direct will use import (ie VAT-less ) price but the can't do that with used items. The same proble goes for private sellers in the UK, anyone who wants to buy their stuff from the EU must factor in the extra VAT (the measure of which depends on the contry you live in the EU) Now for us in the EU buying from the UK is the same as from the USA or Japan, only the duty is an exception which to my knowledge is zero, at least until all the negotiations end between the EU/UK.

Not only that but on the 77 the P pickup a good inch closer to the bridge so it is in a different position as well.

Well, I'm not expecting it to be better as I really like the distinct sound of the 77, just a dit different due the number and placement of the pickups. Also I think it sounds different to the regular EMG/maple wings Euro4's, too.

Just got this Spector Euro4 LE1979! Although normally I don't play standard tuned 4 string basses much but the only one I had so far got quite a lot of playing time lately. It is another Spector, a Euro4 LE1977. I love that bass, the playability, the sound, the quality so I thought about getting its "sister", the other limited edition that commemorates Spector's early day and the releases of the two groundbreaking models, the NS-1 and the NS-2, originally released in 1977 and 1979 (hence the naming of these LE basses) These two limited editions were made in cca 50 pcs each in the Czech Republic and are somewhat rare birds so I'm happy to have both of them. Pretty much what you see is what you get, walnut wings, 3 piece maple neck, rosewood board, DiMarzio P and J pickups and Spector's TonePump electronics. It is a light instrument and has a very sleek feel to it, balances perfectly and sounds immense. The quality is excellent as you can expect from Spector. Now on to the pictures!

Unfortunately the post-Brexit situation (=extra VAT) puts this off limits for me but as an owner of a couple of NS-5XLS I can honestly say basses don't get better than this. Good luck with the sale! Would love to see some pics, too 🙂 -
It sounds different, but if that's worth enough to get another bass is another question. The idea with the pink one was that since it is a preLX Euro with maple wings I wanted to get the classic PJ sound Spector is known for in a 5 string version without going the custom USA way. It ended up sounding quite similar really and now that I have a 35" Euro Pl with maple wings and is tuned to BEAD I have a direct comparison. The pink sounds different than my other Euro with TW's and my NS-5XL with DC's. So for me its great having this. One thing to look for when buying 40 sized P is that one should get the 40P5, not the 40P as the magnet bars are placed differently (the 40P is split in the middle and aimed for narrow spaced 6 string basses) And yes, @krispn they are reversed.

This one I have has a 40PX at the neck position and a 40JX at the bridge. (Originally it cam with the stock 40DCs and I put in the new pickups)) I have a 40DC that I'm contemplating swapping with the J as that would have a more balanced output with the P. It is not a big issue but I had to lower the P considerably and raise the J so they have equal output.

I don't have a vast collection and don't want to sell any of them for the time being. But I had to, these would be the ones I'd hold on to. 1. Spector NS-5XL buckey burl top, walnut back, maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard, EMG40DCX pickups with haz lab preamp. Thi is the best bass I ever had, it records so well and has that extra in it that makes me pick it up over my others most of the time. I don't gig it as I don't want to risk it being stolen, damaged etc 2. Spector Euro5XL heavily modded and refinished. Not much to say, this plays and sounds great, the reason for keeping is sentimental, I have recorded some important music with it and played a lot of gigs. 3. Spector Pre-LX Euro 5 with East preamp, P/J pickups in soapbar housing, refinished, shaved neck. Same as the purple above, got a lot of gigs with it worth a lot more for me I could ever got on the 2nd hand market for it. And play this to this day eventhough it is a backup bass for my other Spector I play live now.

About twelve years ago I have sold my two main basses at the time, a Yamaha TRB-6II and a Spector Euro5, both had 35" scale asI thought that I was done with the 35" and would stuck to my 34" Ibanez SR3006. After a few years being Spectorless I have returned to the brand in '14 with a Euro 5 and couldn't really understand what had I been thinking back in '08 as it was comfortable and great playing bass (still is). I do not have very big hands and long fingers so I understand if some feel that there are bigger reaches on the money end with 34" vs 35" but I think that the NS design is really helpful in other ways (as @Al Krow poited out) For me the smaller body and the position of the bass ((if you see my profil pic, that is the way I like my bass to be positioned) is equally if not more important than the scale lenght and I think there are a couple of factors that contribute to the overall playing comfort.

No, that is NOT an error, they truly have 34" scale, a rare thing for a 5 string Spector in the current line (and a nod to the late '80s 34" NS-5's)
