Just finished setting the zon up to my preferences. Lowered the bridge saddles about 2mm. How some people manage to play on action that high I really don't know... So... Action is now nice and low, plays smooth and fast. No truss rod so no further tweaking needed. Loving it so far, nice fat growly sound with boatloads of substance to it. No regrets selling the Warwick SS2 and getting this Zon instead.
Hope that this kicked the sh.t out of your migraine. I have that sometimes too and hate it.
Due to a nasty touch of the old arthriticals (!!), I am struggling to play my trusty Warwick Rockbass. Does anyone out there in Basschat land know if it's possible to swap my neck for a short scale neck and where I might buy one. Is it that simple? Cheers
As said above it is NOT simple, more to the contrary. I see no reason whatsoever for a mod like this given the fact that there are a couple of nice shorscale basses just in the BC classifieds alone. Also do you think that a short scale bass is the only remedy for your problem?

I'm quite surprised that Spector came up as late as the #38 post. I've used Stingrays, but my Spector Euros have more variety to the sound, can be a lot more gritty and angry but can be tamed, too. For the record I like the Stingray's sound, too but found out that Spectors deliver what SR's do AND a lot more (for me)
I feel the same but I think that's a combination of the 16.5mm narrow string spacing and the neck profile. This Singlecut model (for some reason!) has gone away from the spec and has 18mm string spacing... That alone would put me off! Love the look of it but owning an SR605 and playing the BTB 6 string models regularly (17mm spacing on 6 strings), I wouldn't want anything more than 17mm. Shame as I REALLY like the look of it!!
Well, let's wait and see. AFAIR they always did the usual 16.5 mm on 6 string SR's, one exception being the Adam Nitti sig that comes to my mind. The last thing I need is another Ibby sixer but life is too short for contamplating how many basses I REALLY need.

I hope there won't be a six string version as I'll have to have one. Never been big fan of Ibanez except for their six string SR basses, especially the Prestige's. Those fit me like no other sixers did/do.
very nice bass, but neck picup very close vith neck, comfortable for slaping?
I think it's got more to do with the fact that this bass has 29 frets so the fingerboard reaches all the way to the pickups. Great bass with many nice features and if I were living in your area Scooby I'd pop in for a try with an intention of purchase but alas, I'm not.

Andy, what do you mean by warped? english is not my native language, but I'd imagine warped means that the fingerboard is kind of twisted. Due to the pics you have posted I have a feeling the there is a bow in the neck which should be easily cured be adjusting the truss rod. While there is a tension difference between the strings (and it depends a lot on what kind of strings being used) I would never think that a lefty change would twist the neck. Causing different tesion and making truss rod adjustment neccesary yes, but not twisting.
Can I ask why you are selling?thanx
I use my Spector basses for all my live and recording gigs now. I have two FGN Jazz5's in my collection because I wanted the classic alder/rw and the ash/maple combinations. I feel that a bass needs to be played and one jazz is enough for me. So the new one will go. Simple as that. -
What is v2? I had two Sandbergs, a TT5 and a TM5 some years ago. Did they upgrade the body style? Can't seem to find much difference now that I look at the models at the Sandberg page....

Incredible basses these are. I have the six string version of this model, the SR5006 and that is one of the best basses I have ever laid my hands upon. The sheer quality and workmanship that went into crafting these basses are unbeliveable. The 500x series has a titanium reinforced neck and the sustain and the clarity is remarkable. I know I sound biased as I love my 5006 but these basses are right there on the level with the creations of the best luthiers out there. Anyway, guess I need to stop gushing and while I'm at it I wish you good luck with the sale. :-)
Well thanks folks. You're as undecided as I am I don't know, the idea of owning one appeals but will it be another bit of wood getting dusty and then is a pain to get rid of. Hmmm Yes the beauty of an unlined lined fretless board isn't lost on me, that's part of the wanty-ness. The reality soon kicks in tho once I start making a godawful racket with it! For the past 4 months I've been playing a 4 string p bass almost exclusively, which I'm really enjoying. However whatever bass I use after a while I'm always missing something that it doesn't have - the bite of a single coil J or fretless or active trickery. In my head I want to believe 'the one' is out there but maybe that's just more wanting to think there is a one bass to rule them all, when really there actually isn't. Everything is always a sacrifice. Ho hum So any happy fretless 6 owners care to chime in? I'm almost convinced I'd need to shelve everything else and do some long term shedding to get the intonation under control.
Two remarks. One is that if you can allocate time for woodshedding and have motivation to focus on the project long enough to make rea progress then by all means go for it (6 string unlined fretless) I think it is a beautiful task. I wish I'd started playing bass earlier in my life when I had more time and less priorities that are more inportant than playing bass. I think fretless playing is not a miracle, it's just you have to take the time and there is not shortcut to this. Two: IMO there is no bass that does it all. I'd rather have a small collection of basses (like now) with one fine example of the types I really like (a FGN JB, a Spector NT and a 6 string Prestige Ibanez) Having this collection and having owned many instuments before reall calms my GAS as I have seen a lot and know what I need and prefer. Yes, I'd still like to try/own some basses and they will come in due time.

but I have to admit that a six string fretless ebony board without fretlines is really sexy.
Update on the Spector... Yeah love it. Would recommend them to anyone, the range of sounds available with the independent volume knobs for the pups is amazing. Great punchy b string and it's pretty to look at. Chuffed really. I'd give one a shot if I were you. The thing is I changed from a stingray and I can still get a zingy stingray sound (almost anyway.) really is a lot of bass for the cost. My only negative really is the gloss finish on the neck makes it a bit grippy with sweaty hands: never played with a gloss finish before and might consider sanding the gloss away if i keep getting caught up.
+1 I use a Spector EURO 5 and it really works in almost any genres. It has a strong, even character that works well in dense music and it's quite easy to handle by engineers both in studio and in live. These go under a grand used and are of great value IMO. BTW, Dream Theater's Images and words was tracked with a Spector NS2.

Well there is one for sale here on BC. It's a fretless but having it fretted is an easy and inexpensive job for a potent luthier / tech. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/270266-warwick-streamer-stage-1-6-fretless-now-l1150/
