From my experience of 5 string Spector Euros the neck profile do have some variety depending when it was made. My latest Euro5 has a slim (front to back) neck whereas the old NS5 CR from the same factory had a chunkier neck.
I assume the OP refers to 4 string Euro's, which I had only one but I never thought it had a chunky profile. Maybe because that was my only 4 string bass at the time and anything 4 string seemed to be tiny compared to my 5 and 6 string basses. -
Hey Mark, you surely will regret it, don't you?
Anyway, you have your share of Spector goodness apart from this beauty, too, so you're safe :-)
Bump for a great seller, it was always good to deal with Mark (Bassulike66)
Killer bass and price, BTW. -

I've played this and it's stunning!
Thankfully for me, it's not fretted haha

My sentiments, exactly! :-) -
I've been watching this in the prev ad. Stunning piece and one of the few basses in the classifieds lately that really caught my attention.
I'm not game for this one but whoever will buy/trade this will be happy I believe. -
David, this comes from a fellow Spector player. Haven't tried myself but from what I've gathered the MM pickup is too close to the bridge on the Rebop and it makes the bass a bit thin sounding. Some Spector players installed an extra neck pickup.
Again, the MM pickup is NOT in the 'sweet spot' we have come to love with the single pickup Stingrays. -

Just been playing it again this evening and think I'm going to keep it, it's just too good! The house stuff is going to have to wait!

A wise man you are Sir. -
There are black ones, it was on of the color options back in the day. But all of the colors had matching headstock, so this one had the neck swapped I guess. You can see that the body-end of the neck is a different black than the body, it think that's a refin to match the body color.
But I think the OP will clarify this. -
Ned Steinberger is a genius when it comes to bass guitar ergonomics. I'm a big fan of his design of Spector basses, the NS series and I think these Radius basses are really well thought out.

Makes total sense for accurate intonation when you think about it (not convinced about the rest though), never seen or heard of such a system before, consider me schooled!

Thanks! I think it is an interesting feature, but after all this is a high quality classic jazz bass with 5 strings, nothing more and nothing less :-) -
PM's replied to and the bass is still available.

My Thumb NT5 was the strangest designed instrument I ever had. I'd go as far as call it a "faulty" design, because the 1st position is just so far, and I'm not a short guy (and neither are my arms short)
If I knew that all my gigs would be seated I'd consider a Thumb NT6 because it died sound really good, unlike the Thumb NT5 that was not great. The soapbars in the 6 must be the trick. -
I had a couple of dozen basses travel from/to me within Europe in the last few years. ( I live in Hungary )
In most cases I organized the shipping and I use TNT: Not the cheapest but they are reliable, offer tracking ,insurance etc.
My advice is to pack the bass well. Hardshell case is better than a gigbag, but I had basses that were put into a gigbag, bubblewrapped AND the put into a carton box then wrapped with black vinyl foil and they made it w/o problem.
Source a box, some bubblewrap and some tape and pack the thing. Takes about 10 mins and gives a great piece of mind. And always add more packing material than less.
I have to say that so far I never had any shipping damage either way. -
Nice comparison! I'm partial towards Spectors but all the three others are great sounding instruments. Ww was a bit of a surprise as it sounds way beefier and stronger than my Ww Thumb NT5 from '91 did. Must be the soapbars.

You should mention the very cool circular fretting system.
Thanks for reminding me.
The bass features a proprietary Fujigen patented fret system, called cirecular fret system (CFS) It is not different in use than the normal fret system, but according to FGN it provides certain advantages

For 6s, you're going to struggle to get anything much more than 17mm unless you go the custom route.
MTD Kingston 6's have 18mm spacing, Yamaha TRB-6II have 19mm, Warwick Streamers have 20mm I believe.
But you are right, there isn't a great selection. -
Ibanez SR, especially the ones from the Prestige series are very good sounding and comfortable instuments (SR3005, 5005 or the neck-trough 1005) and they should fit into your budget. They are 34" scale lenght .
Another option is the Spector Euro 5 models. The recent ones have quite slim and narrow neck, 17mm spacing and very punchy and useful sound. They are 35" just like the DJ5. -
Congrats! I've always wanted one of these and the plexi (?) ramp makes the playability even better. Good job!
-
These are incredibly good basses, especially for this price. I used to have one like this and a six string version too.
Were I not playing my Specotrs all the time these days I'd buy this in a heartbeat.
Great Japaneese craftmanship and versatile tone plus one of the best necks for a 5 string I've ever tried. -

these are some really nice basses. japanese craftsmanship is one of the best. good luck with the sale.

Thank you. Bass is still for sale / trade. -

Just finished setting the zon up to my preferences. Lowered the bridge saddles about 2mm.
How some people manage to play on action that high I really don't know...
So... Action is now nice and low, plays smooth and fast.
No truss rod so no further tweaking needed.
Loving it so far, nice fat growly sound with boatloads of substance to it.
No regrets selling the Warwick SS2 and getting this Zon instead.

Hope that this kicked the sh.t out of your migraine. I have that sometimes too and hate it. -

Due to a nasty touch of the old arthriticals (!!), I am struggling to play my trusty Warwick Rockbass. Does anyone out there in Basschat land know if it's possible to swap my neck for a short scale neck and where I might buy one. Is it that simple? Cheers
As said above it is NOT simple, more to the contrary. I see no reason whatsoever for a mod like this given the fact that there are a couple of nice shorscale basses just in the BC classifieds alone.
Also do you think that a short scale bass is the only remedy for your problem? -
I'm quite surprised that Spector came up as late as the #38 post.
I've used Stingrays, but my Spector Euros have more variety to the sound, can be a lot more gritty and angry but can be tamed, too.
For the record I like the Stingray's sound, too but found out that Spectors deliver what SR's do AND a lot more (for me) -
Great bass you have here Steve. I have a love/hate relationship with Thumbs and this one is a fine example of them. You should keep it ;-)

Looking into buying a Euro LX anyone got any info on how they compare to a fender jazz? Used to playing my jazz/jaguar. Had a spector legend years ago and recall the necks being skim and fast but I was wondering what the euro models are like? Any info is appreciated
As for the rest of the bass, it is more ergonomic (for me) than a Fender bass. Smaller body that has an arch to it, lighter weight and a tone to die for :-)
