How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Buddster replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Maybe we could genesplice him with our drummer who starts to fast to get a drummer who starts at the correct tempo. -
Oh, god, have I got to stay awake that long!

Band want to do 500 miles. It goes down well with the punters. A little bit of me is dying inside 😩

He also did the percussion. I worked with him quite a few times, a larger than life character. Would sit in the control room and listen to the track a few times while his roadie setup a table of all his percussion bits. A stereo mic setup. Then he would go out and perform this amazing tapestry of percussion. Great bloke.

To comment on the reddit feed... Not all sound engineers are music sound engineers. Or another way, there are multi disciplines of sound engineering. I couldn't engineer a tv studio sound with multiple lapel mics, but I can mix and record a band. It's not easy to swap. Yes, they should use engineers who can mix music, but just because it's the BBC doesn't mean they have enough avaliable. Mrs B is fed up with me complaining about the sound on tv from Glastonbury. A tale from a long time ago. Back in the early 80s, I did the sound for a Bristol band that got a slot on Pebble Mill at One. I sat in the control room while it was being recorded and the chief engineer said "ooh I like this" and mixed the whole thing on the studio Tanoys. Not even checking on a small tv speaker. Which i found odd at the time. When we came to listen back in the Green room on the tv, the sound was terrible. Really tinny and weak. I know i can't tar every BBC engineer with the same brush (I've sat in on Radio 1 recordings at Maida Vale studios, which were fine), but I've never completely trusted tv engineers to mix bands.

I agree. A lot of smiles and looks like he's really enjoying it. And making the band really inclusive. A nice change from some taking themselves far too seriously.

Question to anyone who's been, and been to one of the main stages. How annoying are the flags? It just looks like, in some places all you'll see is the back of a flag, or sea of poles.

Yup, I have it too. For about 5 years. 9.45kHz and 870Hz. A pure tone. Sometimes one is louder than the other. I remember the exact time I got it. In a rehearsal room when the guitar was way too loud. I asked him to turn down and his reply was "I can't really hear it" as he was standing at the side of the 4x10 cab! My was reply was "come and stand here and you f'ing will". After 30 years in pro audio, I've listened to a lot of very loud music (as a studio assistant, you are at the mercy of the engineer), but always kept below the pain threshold. I still play with the guitarist in our band, but I'm still angry with him for inflicting tinnitus on me. As an aside, it was very bad over Christmas. I sat my wife down (who has perfect hearing, but is very understanding), and, using a PA tone generator app, played her the tone I was hearing. She couldn't believe I was hearing this all the time. We had a long talk about it and the problems it causes. It has helped her understand the difficulty dealing with it and how it can effect my mood.

Are you using a digital desk with a tablet? If so, we've taken our rig, provided a stereo fed and given the sound guy the tablet to mix from. We then still have control over our IEM. Assuming ofc they are ofay with digital /tablets.

If buying different tips, measure the diameter of the 'speaker' part they fit on as the hole in the tip come in different sizes. I've not checked when buying off Amazon and got ones too small.

I've wanted a white bass for a while, but didn't really want to buy another add to the growing collection. I had in mind what look I wanted though. So when @oldslapper put a white body up for sale, I jumped on it pretty quick. I transferred the neck from my Jazz Delux, black scratch plate and knob plate I already had, and added Aguitar pickups. Loving playing it.

I popped in there a couple of weeks ago to get a midi cable. The guy behind the counter didn't know they sold them and has never sold one in ten years working there! It was quite reassuring in a way. I do hope it doesn't close, even it's a more traditional sheet music type shop.

It's sad to see any music shop go under. When ever I'm in a new town, I look up where the shops are just to have a nose, and still remember being a young'un and the excitement of looking round at all the instruments. But, to be honest, I'm a bit fed up of going in to look at shops basses to find the generic line up of a couple of Fender player series, maybe a Cort or an Ibanez or 2. None of them anything like setup, so no point trying one. Meanwhile, there's racks of different guitars on the wall. The old PMT at least had a separate room of basses to look at. The new one had about 8, with nothing worth looking at.

I said it wasn't elaborate. I bought a bass on here, stripped it, and had it resprayed in Gulf Racing blue. I wanted to add the orange strips, but not on the bass itself. However, RightOn didn't sell a black strap with orange stripes (although they do sell a blue /orange Racing one, but only in 6cm width). So I asked for a black strap, 8cm, with orange strips, and they duly obliged.

Not really a review, rather a shout out to RightOn. I've got 3 of them and find them excellent. However, the reason for the post is my most recent purchase. I emailed them late Sunday evening regarding a custom strap design. Nothing too elaborate, but they don't sell one I wanted. Had a reply 1st thing Monday morning saying that they could make it, no problem. Payed, and had an email confirming. It arrived this afternoon. From Spain!! In a lovely box, and purple tissue paper. Thats what I call good service. Many thanks RightOn.

Bought on a whim that I thought I was going to build something, but never transpired. Brand new, unused, Swift Flightcase. I think it was sold as a dj case for decks, and has the foam to match. Internal measurements are 780mm x 460mm (301/2" x 18"). Would prefer collection from North Somerset (and don't mind driving a bit to meet up) as I've nothing to put this in to protect it.

Just bought a body (of the bass variety) from John. Easypeasy. No hassle. Great to meet you and have a chat.

And cost of living. Prices of drinks (and everything else) going up, less spare cash = less punters spending money = pubs cutting back on bands. And yes, Covid seems to have had a big effect on attitudes to going out. Definitely noticed it at our local pub venue.

Good question. The company of band mates. The working out arrangements with band mates (even through the arguments and frustrations). Standing on stage playing while people in front of you are having a good time from something you've crated. But, I still get a viseral feeling from the weight and power of the bass that I love. Even on headphones, I love the sound of the bass, that slightly out of phase from a Jazz, that 'mwaw' of a filter or crunch of a distortion. The drive of 8's or the harmonic weave of a melodic line. It's why I'm a bass player, not a guitarist or keyboard player. I stopped playing for many years (to work in music) and still have time to make up.

Yes, that's we're currently doing. It works, but you'd think there would be a better way

Thanks, looks interesting, but for some reason the page won't load

Hi We're finding it difficult to track the dates when band members are free for future gigs, which makes bookings difficult to arrange. Does anyone know of a good system (outside of Google calendar or a spreadsheet), like an app or website addon?

Very clever, have 2 😄
