  1. So just to update this thread in case anyone finds it at all interesting or useful, this is what I ended up taking with me. And it worked very well. It was loud enough to keep up with singalongs, (even after many bottles of wine) and having an aux input meant I could practice along with tracks. The HB power pack still has charge after a weeks use. Plus it comes with loads of different leads so can power a pedal if needed. I also added a small Bluetooth receiver for phones with no headphone o/p. All in all well worth the money. 👍
  2. Our drummer did that recently. In order not to be hidden behind the singer he decided to set the kit up to one side. On a smallish stage. Fair enough. . But it was on my side, that had me, the bass cab, his monitor and the stage box with all the cables. On the other side.... Nothing, apart from a huge hole (as the guitarist used pedals/small amp). Looked completely lopsided. Phew, glad to finally get that off my chest.
  3. 🙋 I played trombone and euphonium at school. I was rubbish though and never made it into the school orchestra. Just loved the bass notes I guess.
  4. Jack Bruce. To stand there watching Clapton do 15 min solos must have been amaz..... Oh, no, wait a minute
  5. But make sure you tape up the fret board first else you'll make a heck of a mess of it and if you get it in the grain you'll never get it out. Makes them very shiny though.
  6. Shaking all over. Johnny Kid and the Pirates
  7. An Engineer (in any profession) is also a problem solver. A sound engineer solves the problem of how to make a group of scruffy Herbert's sound good
  8. With my sound engineer head on, it royalty pisses me off at gigs when the sound guys think the be all and end all is how good /loud the drums are. It happens all too often. There was definitely a thing before drum machines that the mark of a good engineer was how good the drum sound was (as its the hardest instrument to get right), but that doesn't excuse not being able to place it the mix correctly. Glastonbury was the same. Drums and vocals. Its like "we need to make it sound exciting, so lets turn up the drums". No.
  9. Yes, all of these, but also included is what the sound guy is being sent by the musicians. You can't make a bunch of cardboard boxes and dustbin lids sound like John Bonham. All too often musicians just don't know how to get their gear sounding good. Plus the rest of what you said is correct.
  10. Check out the Mightier Amp app. Unfortunately only for Android (Apple restrictions on other peoples software, or something). Independent developer, but has added extra features which are very useful.
  11. Relax. Frankie Goes to Hollywood (too late! Thats was to Bassfingers post)
  12. Whats new pu*sy cat. Tom Jones 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (censorship turned pus*y in to meow meow! Lol)
  13. The laughing policeman. Charles Penrose
  14. I noticed in the parade there were no Rockers or Punks. Just mods, flower power and disco.
  15. Talking of smoke machines, doing sound at a jazz/dub/freeform type thing, me and another guy were very hands-on on the desk (dub echo, mixing etc) and i turned the smoke machine on. 10 minutes later i looked up to see the whole club completely obliterated in smoke, just silhouettes of the band, the lights and this great dub music coming out. It was awesome! We didn't have fire alarms so everyone just carried on, but me and the other guy on the desk were pissing ourselves laughing.
  16. We were meant to see him at the Cardiff gig. But Ed Sheran was playing at the Principality Stadium the same night, loads of roads closed in Cardiff and a 2 hour queue on the motorway. So we bailed and went to watch the cricket instead. Can't quite tell from the comments, but we might have taken the better option.
