Does your band play your kind of music ?
Buddster replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
Genuine question. For wedding covers band and the like, I'm assuming there are standard songs that expected to be played? Hence comments about hating playing these ie. You have even though you don't want to. Our covers band play songs that people know and can dance to, but we've stayed away from cliches and big bands (Queen etc). Is having your own 'style' frowned upon in these situations? -

.Same as Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird. Written by guitarists to enjoy themselves to while everyone else has to stand around being board. (disclaimer, may not have been written guitarist, i have no interest) -
Thanks for the confirmation Stub. 👆 (pointing to my post 4 above) Looks like I made the right choice 👍

Yeah. We're not a pro band, we're local gigs, so we all choose songs we like and want to play, as long as they're known and vaguely danceable. Everyone has the power of veto so if someone really doesn't like we don't play it. Can't say the 4 chord root note pop songs are exciting to play but i like the songs and it means you can look at the audience rather than the fretboard. -
I thought the Blackstar might be a bit under powered for what I need, so good to hear it is. The Roland bass cube is a bit too big to fit in the boot with all the other luggage, and a bit over budget, but it does look like a good buy. I do need something to be able to keep up with 'enthusiastic' guitarist sat round the table full of empty bottles of wine for the evening singsong so the pocket amp won't really work (plus I already have a NUX plug in and a Zoom B1 four for that). I already have a Peavy 15w practice amp and a Rumble 100 for small gatherings when there's mains available. So, I ended up going for the Joyo MA-10B. It's 10w and a 5" speaker so hopefully a bit more power (if lacking on features), and about the right size. Plus it's currently £29 from Thomanns. I've also purchased the Harvey Benson power pack they sell after reading on here that someone used that. Seemed a very good idea That should save in buying loads of batteries (plus I can use it for the phone). It's on it's way and I'll try to remember to report on it incase it's useful information for others.

DJ remixes who take a perfectly good track and turn it into drivel with a 4 on the floor beat and crap noises just because the record company have been convinced to throw £1000's at talentless personalites who have no idea of what they are doing to sell a record. -
Hi Summer holidays are nearly here and I'm looking for a small amp to take away with me. It only needs to keep up with acoustic guit, cajon and drunken singing. I'm not looking to busk with it, but I guess it's the same principle. It does need to fit in with all the luggage (and comments like "and where do you think that's going to go!") so size is an important factor. Also must have aux i/p and headphones o/p. I've found these so far I like, plus loads of others. Does anyone have any views on amps they've used? Is 3w enough to keep up? Many thanks Blackstar Fly 3 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01C8PSVUU/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_XF56CNQWR2QC1ZE51K2Q Laney nexus nx https://www.bonnersmusic.co.uk/products/laney-nexus-mini-bass-amp?variant=36655636414626¤cy=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjwj42UBhAAEiwACIhADtv28-xkpul76AVty7poUebk05Voh62_5DoHnmJaQTF5xBx3e5c-yBoCwHUQAvD_BwE Orange mini crush https://www.thomann.de/gb/orange_crush_mini.htm

Sorry if this is common knowledge to others, but it's kind of relevant. Back in the days of CBS studios in London (70s), they used to now they had a hit if they heard the tea ladies whistling the tune of songs they were working on. These tea ladies were called the Old Greys, and that's where the TV show got it's name from.

we have used the best conductors and what we consider the best XLR plugs and added our own magic ingrediants to offer a superb cable, able to compete with the big brands. 🤣🤣🤣 However, I do need new a new mains cable for £700.

I've always suffered from this and has quite regularly stopped me from sleeping. The worse I can remember is "you're a pink toothbrush, I'm a blue toothbrush" by Max Bygraves when I was about 7 after hearing it on my grandma's radiogramme! I even remember asking my mum how do I stop this cause it's driving me mad. I even find myself chewing in tempo to the song going round in my head ffs.

A little help with some Jazz measurements please
Buddster replied to Buddster's topic in Repairs and Technical
Just an update incase someone finds it useful in the future. atsampsons mention of checking if the neck is parallel to the body made me double check that area. Having already tried a shim at the body end which didn't work as intended, I tried one on the front end. Just 0.2mm, but that was enough to make the neck more parallel. It also ment I could lower the action a fraction (as there's more break angle on the frets) and seems to have removed some rattle giving a more rounded sound, which was what I was after. The neck is nice and flat as well. Feels much nicer to play now. Such small things making a big difference. -
Yes, totally. Venues who think "oh we can put bands on, because we've got a spare 10 feet of space, and it doesn't matter they'll be in front of the toilet door, they won't mind people walking through them when they're playing. Space for a mixing desk? What's one of those then?"

Many thanks for taking the time to do that. Interestingly, your neck sits lower in the pocket, your saddles are a bit higher (therefore the strings above the pickup/guard), and yet the action is the same at the 17th. Next time I take the neck off I'll have a measure of the pocket, see if its flat. Shimming did help me raise the saddles, but i had to have quite a bit of relief and the clanking off the frets. I've yet to work out what it all means, but appreciate you doing that. It gives me something to compare mine to. -
Monitoring - if tha wants owt done proper...
Buddster replied to lozkerr's topic in General Discussion
From what OP has said it seems like the monitor mix was being messed around with. Possibly a digital desk and they didn't realise they had the monitor mix live on the faders rather than FOH? 🤷 Easily done if you're not experienced. Anyway, not being a user of IEM, if you're the units mentioned above are taking a feed from the desk, are you not going to have the same issue ie the feed into the unit gets turned up and in turn raises the level into your ears? I guess you do have the option then of turning it down (so I think I just answered my own question! 🤡) -
Champion. Thanks Woodinblack, that's a proper explanation. Thought I may have not ticked a box or a cache issue. 👍

Here's a random example. It's a very old post but has a picture and non-picture. Thinking it really is because people have deleted old photos, poss to make up more space for newer photos

Hi Is there a reason why on some threads there is just a small picture icon rather than showing the full picture? Thinking about it, perhaps it's due to the original picture being deleted by the poster? But some topics have loads of posts/pages with just these icons. Cheers

Hi I wounder if I could ask some kind soul to take a minute to check some measurements on thier Jazz for me please. I've a Squire Cv and it's needed a lot of setting up from new. The action was very high and lots of fret buzz after the 12th when lowered which required much fret reduction/leveling/truss rod adjustment. I've got it to where I like it now, but would be interested to compare it to another. Not having access to the genuine article (or finding pics online) I've no resource to do so other than someone out in BC land. On this first pic, this is how much I've had to file away the bottom of the E bridge saddle to get the action down (same on the G). I've seen this done else where, but doesn't seem right to have to do this and if I upgrade the bridge I'll have to do this again. I have tried shimming the neck but this resulted in a terrible clank from the strings which was worse. This next pic is the height I now have over the neck pickup, which is a bit low compared to the Fender specs, but can't get the pickup any lower in the body, and if I did I can't rest my finger on it. What height should the top of the pickup be from the pick guard? (ish) If I made it the recommended 5mm from pickup to string, the action would be stupidly high. And finally, how high is the neck at the 19th above the body? It feels like the neck pocket is cut too low, but without knowing what it should be, I can't tell. This is the action I've now got, which is perhaps lower than Fender specs, but I do like a low action. I've managed to get my Ibbys even lower without any issues. Any help would be appreciated. It's been quite a journey to get to this point. Much more than I would have imagined. But it's been educational and don't mind doing it on a Squire. A 74 original is a different matter! Many thanks in advance.
