  1. Nice neat job. Got to ask though, what is the chrome device you're using to hold the strings back with? I've not seen that before and looks very handy to have. Or is it part of the neck brace?
  2. I don't know what GAS actually stands for, but I know it leads to spending a lot of money!
  3. Yes, to people who are trying to help, but as someone who has wound 10,000s cables over 30 years, as long as you put the twist in as you're doing it, you can wind it round your elbow. Packing away a full orchestral recoding at 3 in the morning, you find a quick (correct) way of doing it! Definitely not your fist though, no, no, no.
  4. Lead singers who feel their it's thier duty to talk to the female members of the audience on behalf of the band, rather than helping to load in/pack up. In rehursals, when trying to listen to the track you're covering to work out parts etc, drummer/guitarist/keyboard insist on playing along, thereby rendering any meaningful listen useless "so what's the chord progression on this one?" (for cover) Guit... "Am7, Dsus6, Eaug11 etc etc " well the bass part is just the root notes... " Guit..." typical bass player, " " wait, what, it's not my fault they wrote a lousy bass part" I feel this thread is going run and run
  5. Cheers Chris 👍 bought a bass cab. Excellent communication and a top bloke. No problems with the transaction and even brought it over so I could use it at our rehursal.
  6. Thanks for bringing it over Chris. Pleasure doing business with you

    Jazz

My bitsa Jazz. Inspired by an Alpher cobra (?) bass I saw on Pinterest I bought a body with pickups off ebay and modded it with deeper horn cutouts and more body contouring (which you can't really see in this pic). Neck is an old Tanglewood I managed to get for £25! I also made a new scratch plate from Ash vineer, with a slightly different design, and used tung oil to finish. Black stain from Crimson Guitars to show the grain. The photos not great so doesn't really show it. Was more of a trial run really. When funds permit I'll get a better body and neck and re-do it. But this plays nice. I also have a Squire 70s CV, but that's more normal to post.
  8. My BTB 780CM My first bass I bought about 10 years ago. Nice bass, but doesn't get played so much as now preferring the SR/jazz sized neck. Never seen another for sale, do Ibanez do limited runs of these basses?
  9. At the risk of looking a silly billy and making a joke off my own post, maybe "in stock" ment 'in Stockholm '....... 🙄 Coat on and Taxi ordered... 🚕
  10. "in stock" when I ordered a Squire Jazz online (and a very well known shop) meant it was in Sweden and took 5 weeks to arrive! However, one of the machine heads had snapped off and they replaced all 4 with genuine Fender ones, so they made up for it. But totally agree with you. In stock should mean they can see it... I feel your frustration
  11. Why is Stewart Copeland playing guitar and Andy Summers playing the drums?
  12. The only old photo of me on bass. Local gig, 1983, Shergold bass. John Taylor inspired neckerchief.....
  13. Ones I've used.... -Fender rumble, headphone o/p, aux i/p -Zoom b1 four, headphones, aux i/p, drum tracks -NUX mighty plug 2. Headphones, Bluetooth, its own app for different modeling, no leads. All are under £500 so there are probably better if you are spending that much, but these have been very good to practice with.
  14. I think they must visit my bass after yours!
  15. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. The intonation was still bang on. I've managed to pull the sound back, but couldn't say what particularly did it. A little tweak of the bridge hight, a nudge of the pickups, a slacking off/tensioning of the strings. I'm enjoying the Jazz, but she's a temperamental thing sometimes
  16. Just found this thread, and as I have this thought I'd chip in. I used to use the Vox bass amp, but that finaly broke so bought this as I like to practice on headphones. The lack of cables is great, as is having different effects/amp sims etc. But what i don't like is the overall sound of the music played via bluetooth. Its very bass heavy (and not even in a nice punchy bass way) and really over compressed. And the presets music eq's are just awful. Not musical at all. Plus it's not that loud. There's an alternative app tho, called Mightier Amp (at least it is on Google play, don't know about Apple store). Its a slightly better version and even has a latency 'fixer'. Music still sound rubbish though. Maybe its my 80ohm Beyerdynamics that are the issue as stated above. Worth trying a lower ohm set. Wish there was more dedicated bass app too. I also have the zoom B1four which sounds much better, but that's normally on the pedal board, so more hassle to get out for a quick practice.
  17. The bridge height hasn't changed but I'll try a wiggle at the bridge slot incase the string arn't sat right. I literally just took it out the gig bag and tried tuning. Its possible the saddles moved during rehursal. String height etc is the same and I've not changed the pickup height.
  18. Hi I wonder if I can pick some better brains on here. I bought a Squire vintage vibe 70s Jazz in October last year. I was pretty disappointed with the initial setup as it came. However, I can do my own setups/fret leveling etc and have now got it playing nice. But that's a story for another thread. I've been used to Ibanez's in the past and this is the first Fender/Squire I've owned, so not used to their particularities. Last week I was tuning up using harmonics on the 5 and 7 and each one rang clear as a bell with nice sustain. Used it at rehursal and sounded great. Yesterday however, I do the same and the D and G harmonics just sort of clunk, no sustain, no nice tone. The open strings don't sound as clear as they did either. However, the harmonic on the 12th is fine. The 7 not too bad, but the 5 is terrible. I noticed that the bridges were touching so moved them apart, and it did improve a little. The relief looks a tiny bit less flat than normal. But as I can't see anything else that has changed that much I'm a bit baffled as to whats happened, and don't want to go round in circles trying to fix it if someone can point to the cause. Are Squires know to be tempermental and require adjustments? The Iby's are pretty stable. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  19. I thought my BTB was heavy at about 7ibs untilI bought a Squire 70s vintage vibe which weighs 12.9lbs! Not reading in to it anything about weight v tone (I do realisethere'smore to the sound than just weight), but when listening acoustically (with the right ear against the top horn) there is definitely more body/sustain to the Squire, and an even bigger difference between those 2 and the sr500 at about 4lbs.
  20. From other DAWs I've used there's a couple of things (sorry if you've tried them and they sound "simples") Is there a destination folder/harddrive selected for it to record onto? You say you press the play button, normally you'd press the record button and it would go straight into record. Is there a dropin function thats been selected by mistake? IE you haven't reached that time marker yet so its not recording until you reach it.
