  1. Not sure if you are still building your board/mains, but I did a similar thing on a board I built. Used one of these, with a fuse and switch, and joined them to the extention board with an inline connector. All screws, no soldering or bare wires and all available from Amazon. Only tricky part is makeing the hole to take the socket, and fitting it all in. Make sure everyrhing is held down though, nice strong velcro.
  2. I did the live sound for a celtic rock band in the early 80s in the Bristol area. In a thick Bristolian accent, the mandalin player would (shout) count them in "1,2,3,...1,2,3" ..for a 4/4 piece. I expect it was more for show as they all came in right and stayed tight. But it was funny.
  3. We had our (much more humble than previous posts) 2nd gig in the 2 years since we formed. Thanks to covid. We organised it ourselves in the village hall, about 100 people where we've put on loads of other local bands before. Cracking night. The singers dress strap snapped, so spent half the set trying to prevent a serious "fall out". And the foldback decided to go AWAL. But the audience was well up for a night out with much dancing and even 2 encores. Great to be back out. Roll on the next one. Good to see others gigging again after such a difficult period.
  4. This is very true, having had to do it myself for a couple of masters before going to the cutting room.. I've even seen where the varispeed on the mastering ½" was left on by mistake and nobody noticed until the end of the session where by the desk had been reset and the tape op had a very difficult conversation with the engineer! As an aside, on a particular session back in the 80s we had a piano tuner come in to tune the studio grand piano. We had a strobe tuner set up in the control room for everyone to tune to. I was asked by the producer to ask the piano tuner to tune the piano to the strobe tuner. He refused to tune each note to the tuner, but would tune A to the 440 of the tuner and the rest by ear. The minute variations in the pitches done this way added to the richness of the piano sound.
  5. Hi all. Ooh I hate introductions, but here goes. I started playing bass at 17 (back in the very early 80s) when we needed a bass player in the band and the singer/songwriter/lead guitarest refused, swapping over from rhythm guitar. It was definitely a swap for the better! However, I also liked playing around with tape machines etc and this lead to me getting a job as a tape op in a Bristol studio, which meant the bass took a back seat. I did loads of live sound as well as studio work with top Bristol bands. The big change came at 20 when I managed to get a job in a major London studio (Red Bus). Big lights, big city! Worked for 15 years in studios, worked with many named bands and producers. Did a few tours as a live engineer, and was lucky enough to engineer on a few records that made top 40. Long hours but amazing times. But no bass playing! (on a serious level anyway). Left London late 90s to return to Bristol. Still worked in audio and still doing live engineering, but still had a love of the bass. So about 10 years ago bought my first bass (Ibanez btb) off a friend to play around with. I've left the audio side behind now but it's still ingrained in me. Skip to the end.... Joined a band about 2 years ago and started taking it a bit more seriously. Just as covid hit! Did my 3rd ever gig on stage (rather than behind the desk) recently after break of 40 years. Loving it again and really regret not keeping it going from my youth, but making up for lost time now. Still have the btb, but thats been joined by an Sr500, a Fretless, an accustic and a soon to be 'birthday present to my self' Squire Jazz. Been reading to forum for a bit now and love the fact it's a real mixture of people, pro' s, non pro's, builders etc. The knowledge here is so broad. Look forward to reading more and gaining more and more knowledge. Well, that was more than I thought I would write! Have a potato.....
