  1. Fender finishes are often all over the place when it comes to certain colors, and sometimes this applies to G&L, too. For instance, Sonic Blue can be anywhere from as vivid as Daphne Blue to a blue so light it's nearly white. Other than that, the two in the middle are good representations of Tidepool Blue. (Do you have to have blue and does it have to be a Fender Player P bass?)
  2. My Italia Imola is very special. They do make a 5-string model.
  3. Squier Contemporary Active Precision Bass in Sunset Metallic...incredible finish. The roasted maple is nice, too.
  4. No more of an annoyance than the sales clerk coming up to me mid song and asking me if I liked the bass, seeing that I'd just played three other songs testing the tone.🤣 Seriously though, played it through a new Ampeg Rocket...good combo.
  5. First new bass in nearly a year. Sure, I could've spent 2, 3, or 4 times more, but once I plugged this one in, none of the other basses in the store even existed!
  6. I haven't played any of his other baases, but his shop is only 45 minutes to an hour away. I'm glad I bought a good one.
  7. Thank you. $1,300-$1,700 depending on the bass and features. Mine originally sold for $975 six years ago, but I didn't buy it. Then, I saw it on Reverb in October 2019 for $500 and I jumped on it. I was interested in the gold Jazz too...same price back in 2017.
  8. 0 Gamma Alpha Local guy puts together parts basses and charges some crazy prices according to some people. The thing is, he puts together some very nice basses.
  9. ...it doesn't even have to say Squier. Haven't played this one in over a year. Only P bass I own. Stored away with some other gear...I have eight other basses...I took it for a spin yesterday and it was like driving a classic car, no nonsense, it simply gets the job done. Passive, pure and potent. It won't be going back in its case for quite some time!
  10. If someone doesn't like them, fine, but I've yet to see anyone even attempt to explain what's wrong with buying something like this, for example.
  11. I can tell you which bass I'd buy...
  12. https://www.fender.com/en-US/mikey-way-jazz-bass.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20230606_MikeyWay_NPI_PL14_B&utm_term=fender&src=email23DT060623_PL14_B&smtrctid=385b6d78-7928-4e44-adba-4d4ef71d83e1 Sure, $1,500 for an MIM, but just look at those special pickups and electronics!
  13. That certainly doesn't make it easy. You don't see the Thundergun here, either, but I did find one once three or four years ago at a local shop so I did have the opportunity to try it out. The Mercalli is basically the same bass, other than no set neck and slight aesthetic differences. If you're close enough to the shop near London and you have the chance, play one and see.
  14. Had the Epiphone Classic Pro and 60s Thunderbird, very nice, but the Thundergun is just a little bit better, good fret access, and I think it's every bit as good as my two USA-made G&L L2000s.
  15. I'm guessing you want a great bass, not just the typical suggestions. So... Reverend Thundergun One of the best-kept secrets in the bass world. SPLIT BRICK Strong lows and highs, open mids. Like a vintage P bass pickup but with more beef, yet retains clarity. 43 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 8.5K ohms. THICK BRICK Warm and thick with strong mids. Output and punch like an active, but more organic sounding. 42 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 7K ohms.
  16. The nice ones, the typical ones or the new ones? Jazz or Precision?
  17. Prices are up everywhere, but when it comes to Fender MIM and MIJ basses, I can't see myself buying one instead of something from G&L or Reverend. As for basswood, my Classic Vibe is basswood and it's a gem!
  18. You've never tried tapewounds?
  19. Finally, someone who actually knows how to use the Steel Leather
  20. Sure, you can do that, but the strap can be used for other basses. Hey, some people do this, too. i wouldn't.
  21. I used this for rehearsal Saturday. No one in their right mind would call the tone bright. (By the way, it only weighs 7.3 pounds and sounds better than most heavy basses I've played. So much for that theory, too.)
  22. Something along the lines of a Ritter bass?
  23. For that price, the chair is included, right?
