For others, yes.

I think I've recommended this one a dozen times this year.

The one on the left is debatable. The one on the right...not only ugly but it doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose.

Fender Player Plus....more blurred lines or a smart move?
jd56hawk replied to merello's topic in Bass Guitars
I just spent $500 on a five-year-old Squier and I wouldn't trade it for any new MIM. To be fair, I'll be trying out both the Precision and the Jazz tomorrow, but I doubt either one will measure up. I'm not saying they're bad basses, but I seriously doubt they're good thousand-dollar basses. Only plus about these Players are some of the finishes. -
Steer me right on a new bass! (well, it could be a used new bass)

You might want to consider this one...made me forget all about PJ'S and Thunderbirds. 7.9 ounces...the only thing heavy is the tone. https://youtu.be/TG43QMU5Q5o -
A couple of nice finishes but that's about it. Silver Smoke only available on the P bass, Tequila Sunrise only available on the 5-string Jazz...another brilliant move! Oh, yeah, nice to see a significant jump in price, too...but that's okay, they have several $1,000 plus MIMs, and people have been buying them. Me? Hell, I'll just wait until next year when they come out with the Player Plus Profesional Performer...maybe they'll actually have a friggn' tone control.

I wouldn't dream of removing the pickguard or changing the pickup on this one. Missed out on buying one four or five years ago and I've regretted it ever since. Big mistake on their part discontinuing the color. Now, used ones are going g for more money than the new ones...and they're worth it.

2015 Classic Vibe. Even with the black tapewounds, it still has that unmistakable Jazz growl. I'm very impressed. Two hundred dollars more than when they first came out, but worth every penny.

Not sure, but I'm guessing this one sat in the store for six years...maybe lost in the attic or a back room...because it's essentially a new bass. Protective film is still on the pickguard and the control plate. I doubt anyone's even touched the strings...they felt and sounded new. Had to change them, though. Five of my basses have GHL black tapewounds, but I had a set of D'Addarios lying around collecting dust, so I went with them.

Nice to see Fender introduce a new color that's actually new!

Do Musicman offer a 'downsized' (light weight) bodied bass?
jd56hawk replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
I've never owned one. I just can't go with those prices. If someone gave me this, I'd definitely play it, though. -

G&L and Musicman have been really bringing it to another level lately. -

Which can be a problem when checking out Reverb. Not a week goes buy without something like this popping up. -

I prefer the newer headstocks. I want people to know I'm playing a G&L. As for the Kiloton, I don't really need one, yet I keep checking them out on Reverb. I'm fact, I almost bought a Kiloton Tribute with the Irish Ale finish last year, found one with outstanding woodgrain, but decided against it and bought another L2000 instead. Couldn't pass up the one on the left for only $1,350! (By the way, the blonde one weighs 7.3 lbs.) -
I'm waiting to see a purple Orange and orange Orange stack. It hurts my eyes just thinking about it.

NBD: Opinions and Info Wanted on this Vintage Telecaster Style Bass

Do you have a closeup of the headstock? What's the label on the rear? How about the bridge? Looks unusual, to say the least. -

Goldtone M23 acoustic bass with polymeric strings, anybody?
jd56hawk replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
Older Dean Exotica with the Aphex System...Aural Exciter and Big-Bottom Sound. Not another acoustic bass made with the same preamp. This one was only $250 with an ABS case. They still pop up on Reverb for under $300.
