  1. Thanks for the kind offer Steve - all sorted now though. We have sound!
  2. Thanks again Dan - I'll try again this evening.
  3. Hi Dan, thanks - I appreciate the response. In the manual it says the connector is wired with the amplifier positive to terminal “1+” and the amplifier negative to terminal “1-“. Perhaps I should give the NL2FX cable another go - maybe I didn't twist it on enough?
  4. Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out here 🤞 I have a Mesa D-800 amp and a recently acquired Mesa Subway 1X15 cab. According to the owner's manual I need a cable with NL-2MP Speakon plugs to connect the two. The amp has a NL4FC connector. I’ve only used the D-800 through headphones so far. I tried a cable with NL2FX plugs but got nothing. Any Mesa owners out there? What are you using to connect to your cab? Thanks in advance. ☺️
  5. Great opportunity for an impromptu January Road Trip! 🤪
  6. Video upload didn't work - let's try this.... TE Amp.mp4
  7. *BUMP! Plugged this in yesterday - no distortion just still a little on the quiet side - A nice cheap & easy project for someone out there. I'm uploading a quick video to demonstrate the amp working - excuse the playing - I was holding the phone still with my foot at the time (as you do). IMG_9117.MOV
  8. How do the GHS match up to D'Addarios? I usually use D'Addario tapes. I like the matt finish, less plasticky than Labella's, just feel smoother to play. I've not tried GHS tapes.
  9. On reflection, I paid after I'd placed the ad (it was under £50 so I wan't sure if I still needed to pay). Still - it's all in a good cause!
  10. Hello Mods, I placed an ad in the Amps and Cabs for Sale section yesterday and It is coming up as "pending approval" - I presume it's not visible to other Basschatters yet. Just wondered how long the approval process takes on average or whether there is an issue with the ad itself? Thanks in advance. Karl
  11. Now sold - Thanks for the interest. *Video now added - just scroll down.... Up for sale, my Trace Elliot GP7 SM 300 combo amp. The amp has been stood idle for about a year as I no longer use it. I plugged it in recently to check before I sold it on and it sounds quiet. Then, after a couple of minutes the sound becomes distorted. As such, this is sold strictly for REPAIR or SPARES. I took some advice from fellow Basschatters and it seems the most probable diagnosis is that it needs transistors replacing. May even just be a loose connection somewhere. I just don't have the technical know-how to approach this and it probably isn't worth paying professional tech money to fix it. However, it should appeal to someone with the requisite knowledge and kit as a fairly straightforward fixer upper. In all other respects the amp is in very good clean condition. Sounded great when it was firing on all cylinders and has only had home use. Collection only from just East of Leicester. You're welcome to come and have a look over before you buy.
  12. Bought a Jazz loom from John, who kindly offered to adapt my control plate to fit. Great comms and a top class job as always. Service like that is very much appreciated.
  13. Possible - Looks like I will need to open it up and have a poke around 🤞
  14. Thanks Paul, sadly I don't think a £130 outlay would be worth it in this case. I will give the effects option a whirl though.
  15. Hello. I'm hoping the formidable BC "Hive mind" will be able to help here. I have an old Trace Elliot GP7 SM 300W Combo amp which has always had home use only. It is now surplus to requirements and I was planning to sell it on. It is still in good cosmetic nick. However, I tested it out today and the volume seemed lower / weaker than usual. Then after a minute or two, the signal becomes distorted. I've been through the usual checklist: Reduced input level taken the EQ down a few notches tried with both active and passive basses (no difference) Reduced Master output level The distortion continues regardless. I'm not experienced enough to tinker with the internal gubbins. I'm wondering whether to A) sell it as is, for spares or repairs B) Get it fixed (if it sounds like a fairly straightforward / inexpensive fix Does this sound like the speaker has blown? Loose connection somewhere? I just wondered if this sounds like a common fault. Any advice / thoughts gratefully received 🙃
  16. +1 on the Lightweight Mesa cabs. I have the Subway 1X15 - it's deep and punchy but nicely portable. Only weighs around 17kg.
  17. Hi Ian - I can recommend Howard Smith over in Clarendon Park Road area. Nice chap and knows his way around most stringed instruments. http://www.howardsmith.co.uk/ I'm sure it won't be long before you are setting your own up however. Plenty of great advice and support on here 👍
  18. Welcome Ian - from another "Leicesterfarian"! - That might actually stick - better than Leicesterians.
  19. Agree with this 100%. The build quality of Sandbergs is fantasitc. Really well put together. The electronics are a matter of personal taste but have never suited me. I found them a little too "modern". I have an entry level VS4 with the best neck I have ever played. Converted it to passive recently with SD Antiquities pickups and it is now an absolute keeper. Plus a KiOgon loom of course! As @Ander87says, a relatively minimal outlay will really sort you out.
  20. TI Flats too! That should sound sweet. Some of that wear doesn't quite look like it was incurred "naturally" - I could be wrong.
  21. I've just returned from a very pleasant trip to South Wales. Bought Marc's Fretless Jazz. Really enjoyed meeting @Marc Sand felt we could have chatted all day. The bass is exactly as described and the experience couldn't have been better. Great communication and a very good experience all round. Thank you again Marc. Really good to meet you.
