3. Another one from Under The Bridge with The White Keys. Somebody Else's Guy:
4. I've set up a thread for these two, but I'm sure there's no harm in posting them here. My band The White Keys at Under The Bridge in February. Soul Education (Jamiroquai) Superstition (SW) & Crazy (Gnarls Barkley) More to come next week hopefully!
5.
Here's my latest video! I felt inspired to do a Beyoncé tune after seeing her live at the O2 Arena on Monday.. Hope you enjoy it!
Great phrasing and feel!
6.
Any Hugh and cry covers ?
Not really our thing I'm afraid!
7. Bump for a new video (see first post)
8.
Wow! 4 singers, a drummer AND a percussionist, a keys guy, guitarist and bassist - and some bloke on sax or something (I've probably missed people too). Not my kinda music - but very listenable and pro sounding. Well done those people. Great vid. I suspect you don't come cheap?
Yup, all in all it was 4 singers guitar bass keys drums percussion 3 piece horn section That particular line-up is our biggest, but we can scale down to a 5/6-piece band for those on a budget. Mostly we go out as an 8 or 9-piece (2/3 singers, 2/3 horns). Cheers!
9. Cheers guys! I've got to say this isn't even the best song we did... and I'm ludicrously excited to show you the rest.
10. I hope it's OK to post this here! My band The White Keys did a gig at Under The Bridge back in February, and we filmed/recorded the whole thing for promotional purposes. We've just got one of the videos back from the editor. Please have a look and let me know what you think! It's a cover of Soul Education by Jamiroquai, based on their Montreux live version. For that night we were also called 'Soul Education' - as I understand it, it's the name for the larger 12-piece band. There'll be more to come soon - I'll post them here when they're online! EDIT: Our medley of Superstition & Crazy is now online. Check it out!
11. Thanks Skol! The guys at Resident Studios did a great job mixing it, and it was all done within strict time constraints. I think it was 2 days of recording, 1 for mixing. We're doing alright for bookings, but we can always do better! That's why we did this demo, and also a live promo video a few months back: https://vimeo.com/66607964
12. My function band the White Keys has a new demo online! There are two medleys, which you can listen to in full, or separately. Please listen, and let me know what you think! H 1. 13.
did you audition for a place when you decided to switch?
I didn't actually - I discussed everything with the course leaders though, and they were already aware of my ability etc.
14. I started on the Music Production course back in 2006, switched the Popular Music BA after a semester. It was the best academic decision I've ever made. I understand the college was in financial trouble a few years back, and there were rumours of various mergers (I heard Leeds Met, then Bradford Uni) which then fell through. However, the last I heard, they were saved by some very good sponsorship deals - I heard Steinway and Ableton helped them, maybe a few others too? I also heard rumours that the three music undergraduate courses (pop, jazz and classical) were merged into one course - students could then choose modules in these areas. Don't know whether this is actually true, and I can't say which format would be preferable. Anyway, regardless of the way things are working there right now, it'll be a great decision if you do decide to go there. I met some brilliant musicians, many of whom have continued to be great friends and colleagues. The city and the surrounding areas such as Headingley & Hyde Park are very much student-centric, so it's a vibrant place to be (except outside of term time - it's completely dead then!). One final bit of advice: take all the opportunities you can manage. And take the course by the scruff of the neck - it doesn't guarantee anything afterwards. I refer to my BA as the most expensive piece of paper I ever bought. Hope that made some kind of sense.
15. I bought a really decent guitar off a friend for £50. It's a Westfield Tele copy. Funny thing is, his father-in-law found it in a bin!! ...in retrospect, I've been ripped off.
16. Just bought a CIJ Jazz from Josh. Great communication throughout, and a great guy to boot. Highly recommended!
17.
heard nothing but amazing things about Lee over at http://www.freewebs....averackguitars/ im taking all my basses to him, top guy too.
I can vouch for Lee Laverack too. He did some work on a couple of my basses back when I lived in Leeds.
18. Actually recorded this in January, but only got around to finishing the edit last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSEe1pASd_Q&feature=youtu.be
19. Another reason for my choice: I find bass infinitely more satisfying to play than any other instrument. I can't quite put the feeling into words, but I really feel the difference after long periods of playing guitar, ukulele or piano.
20. My first instrument was piano for many years. Since I took up bass at the age of 13, that quickly became my primary instrument. I definitely feel more of an affinity with bass, but it's a tough call. Piano has a much greater expressive range. That said, if I really had to stick with only one, I think it would still be bass. I can't fully explain why, but my technical ability probably has something to do with it.
21.
This is a regular in my gospel band set, played it literally hundreds of times, let me say that Huw is making this look easy! Great tone, excellent paying, thanks Huw, inspiring.
Glad you appreciated it! Thanks so much.
22.
YOU!!! I am pretty sure it was a video of you playing that Precision that made me think for the very first time "hmmm, P basses can sound really good!" And if it weren't you, this video does it again x10. Lovely playing and beautiful tone, thank you for posting this!
Thanks! I recorded this the same day as well. A favourite of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFbEnfSODMA
23. http://youtu.be/gZehS6m-P9Y Another new one... Got some free time at the moment so I'm just enjoying being able to play!
24.
Nice one Huw! This is wicked! I really like the other vid you guys have up as well (Mirror Stage). Great stuff!
Cheers Kevin! Loving your stuff too. Tasteful as f***.
