The input impedance is 500kOhm, which is too low for a piezo pickup, so it would probably need a buffering preamp. Also, no high pass filter - unless that's what the anti-feedback control does?

Yes. That one. It suits me at the moment to use the fishman as a DI to FOH and then set the amp as I need it for backline monitoring. For that purposes the Doubler works quite well as the DB channel has EQ centres optimised for double bass but, as you say, I might as well use any amp, especially if you go via the effect send /return. The Tecamp Puma works quite well for Double bass apparently...

I have no problem with the EA Doubler, though I'm using a magnetic pickup and a Fishman DI, so I don't have issues with the input impedance. I have experimented with going direct into the front of the amp and using the on board HPF, but the signal was pretty low (due to my pickup's output rather than the input gain on the Doubler) and the HPF didn't seem as effective as the HPF on my Fishman. USA cab guru Mike Arnapol was involved with the design of the EA Doubler and I'm sure I read somewhere, probably on Talkbass, that he wasn't happy with EA's HPF, saying that the frequency/ratio/something was next to useless for the double bass. If I was buying again, I'd probably go with the new Acoustic Image amp. Although I never got on with the AI Ten2 combo that I had, but that was more to do with the cab than the actual amp.

1) Don't be afraid to play/dep/jam with someone when they ask - you don't have to be flash, or even that good..... Most people just want you to be dependable, turn up when you say you'll tun up and cover the basics. 2) Start playing double bass as soon as you can. 3) When that bell end of a a guitarist accuses you of stealing band money, kick him very, very hard in the happy sack, cos you'll regret not doing it when he quits the band ten days before the U.S. tour.

While we're here and chatting about it, can anyone recommend a soft case/bag with decent backstraps? The straps on my bag finally gave up at Boomtown this weekend after 7 years of faithful service. Ideally I'd like one where the straps are anchored with webbing, thick canvas or real leather, not that stupid faux leather vinyl stuff with a single rivet stuck through it.

I bought a Krivo out of sheer desperation about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. I've not tried the Schaller so I can't comment on whether it's worth spending more on the Krivo. String wise, I'd recommend starting with a set of Spiro weichs as if you really don't like them you'll easily sell them on again. If you want a really low tension string that works with magnetic pickups, then the Presto Nylonwound lights are the way to go.

No, they won't. Sorry. You need a steel core string to work with a magnetic pickup. Thomastic strings work well, as do Presto and Helicores.

We were setting up for an outdoor cider festival when some bloke just started giving us grief - 'This band's s**t' , 'f**k off' etc, etc. We ignored him and got on with our job. Two songs in and he's standing at the side of the bandstand shouting: 'Skimmity Hitchers! Just finish your set and f**k off!' 'Um, yes pal, that's exactly what we intend to do....play our set and go home'

These sort of cases can be useful for those of us touring on a budget. I know guys who buy them on ebay for 50 quid, go on tour for two or three weeks and then chuck the case away at the end - they don't last much longer than a few weeks on the road. So, it might be worth putting it on eBay but as Happy Jack says, don't expect much money for it.

I don't dislike it, as long as I dont think about the neck joint or the headstock (which applies to intact Warwick headstocks IMHO). It would suit the look of an industrial or death metal band I reckon.

HOLY CHRIST! HAS NO-ONE LOOKED AT THE DIRECTIONS THE TWO CABS ARE FACING????? PHASE CANCELLATION PEOPLE!!! I'm cool with the plectrum though, old school bass with a pick has a really nice sound. Think anything done by Air.
