I always thought that Morrisey's twuntishness put me off liking all bar a few tracks by The Smiths. As the years have passed, I've realised that I only actually like five songs by The Smiths, Morrisey being a massive cnut had nothing to do with it.

No, not really. I had more success using synthetic orchestral strings to reduce the sustain. Raising the action helps as well.

Well, I didn't have any problems hearing myself! It definitely has a bit more 'throw' than the 45. It sounds a bit different to the 45, so my usual 'set and forget' eq had more low end than I normally have onstage. It'll take a few more gigs and a bit of tweaking to get everything just as i like it.

I built a cupboard in the hall for amp/cables bag, gig bass cabs, merch boxes and bass case. The double basses live in the alcove next to the fireplace along with 1 electric bass and a mandolin, with a shelf above for acessories. The remaining electric basses and cabs live in the rehearsal room at the guitarist's house.

Yep. This is the 4x6. My 4x5 struggles on some of the bigger stages so the 46 will take over live duties and the 45 will move to the rehearsal room.

I've not come across the FEB before so I Googled some YouTube videos. They sound fine to me, for a sub-300 quid bass. The choice of strings would go some way to giving a more acoustic-like sound. The track, Solid air or the album? The bass on the song is a Danny Thompson & Victoria combo - good luck getting that sound with an acoustic bass guitar! ;-) If you already have flats on your electric, it's worth experimenting with foam mutes to kill off the sustain. Also try plucking with side of your finger (or your thumb!) for a softer sound. Dave.

I thougt that too, but It's amazing how little space they take up. Who needs a TV or book cases anyway?

I started off with an EUB (Aria SWB followed by an Eminence) as I lived in a small flat on the third floor and most of my gigs were local so I could walk/bus it. I think it took just over a year for proper hard-core double bass GAS to establish itself and now I have three of the buggers. With the benefit of hindsight, I would have been better off just going straight to double bass, but I suppose I had to play EUB for a year to realise that I really wanted to play a double bass. One benefit of an EUB is that they're easier to set up/change strings/tweak than a double bass, so you can easily alter the feel of the bass as your playing progresses.

I had one of those as my first bass. It was playable enough but the sound was pretty lifeless, even with new strings. I replaced it with a Marlin Sidewinder which was vast improvement in every way.

If you're using the gig bag to transport your bass from home to car to rehearsal room, then the lighter gig bag will be enough. If you're planning on chucking your bass in the back of a van to do gigs, then definitely the heavier padded one.

Check if the bridge feet are flat on the table/belly of your bass. Sometimes, the bridge can become slightly tilted towards the fingerboard, which lifts the bridge feet up slightly and reduces the pressure on the pickup. Although, this usually has the effect of introducing distortion rather than picking up other instruments. Do you have any dampening on your F-holes or bass body? It could be that your bass is resonating to the sound coming from the monitors and transmitting that through the pickup. Fitting f-hole covers and/or stuffing a tennis ball/towel between the tailpiece and belly can help kill off the resonance.

I used to put my bass flat on the floor and let my baby daughter silly billy the strings. It sounded a lot like that recording...

I used to have a Therimin, but I sold it cos I haven't touched it since i bought it.... *cough* Liking the EUB - looks like a DB neck mounted on an aluminium pipe. Very apropriate for the film.

Can't think of a reason why it shouldn't work. I used to do something similar before I bought my EA Doubler amp.

I emailed Jason at Krivo last night and he got straight back to me, offering to send out a replacement. Result. It's a grounding problem which is solved with the latest version of the pickup.

Have you ever had earth buzz issues with it? I'm on my second pickup after the first developed terrible earth buzz. Jason Krivo replaced it for postage (plus import tax.. 😡) but now the replacement is having the same issues. I really like this pickup but if it's gping to fail every 18 months (even if replaced for free) I'm going to have to look into alternatives. Anyone tried a Biesele? Dave
