Andy met me in a dodgy pub in Bristol to do a trade deal for my Acoustic Image Ten2. All very quick and easy and a lovely bloke to deal with.

The arrival of my all-conquering BigE MA45 double bass cab has made my Acoustic Image rig rather redundant so it's time to move it on. The Ten2 is Acoustic Image's flagship combo which marries the Clarus 800w (@2Ohm, 600w @ 4Ohm), class D, two channel amplifier head which slots into a nifty slot on top of a unique 4Ohm 2x10 cabinet (one forward and one downfiring driver, plus a coaxial concentric tweeter). The amp head can be removed in seconds and used seperately with the cab of your choice. The Coda has a forward firing 5 inch speaker and a downward firing 10 inch speaker. I believe that this cab is an older, 4Ohm model rather than the 8Ohm as stated on the Acoustic image. The speakon input on the back of this cab is marked as 4Ohm. Altogether it makes a very versatile modular system. The Ten2 on it's own is great for yer typical pub acoustic/folk/jazz gigs. Add the Coda cab for bigger stages/louder bands or remove the Clarus head and pair it with the little Coda cab for those intimate little bar or studio session gigs. Here's the obligatory photos: Both cabs come with Acoustic Image slip covers and are in perfect working order and very good condition (a few scrapes on the bottom of the Ten2 cab). I'm happy to split these and I still have the original boxes so posting isn't a problem. Trades wise, I'd be interested in lightweight 500W amp heads (Markbass/Tecamp/Genz Benz/Euphonic Audio etc). I already have a Little Mark II, so I don't need one of those, but feel free to put forward any other Mark Bass amps. I'd also be interested in a decent ply or hybrid/solid top double bass - as long as you're not hundreds and hundreds of miles away from Bristol so I can try it out first. Cheers! Dave

Looks a useful new tool for the DB player's gigbag

Ooh, that is tempting... I'm increasingly finding that I'm keeping the EQ on my Plat Pro flat and using the tone controls on my amp to shape the stage sound I'd like two outputs though - one to the desk and one to my amp. And a mute switch for tuning. -
HAHAHAHA...... your shows sound a lot of fun
Mate, we have pictures from gigs that you wouldn't believe....

Given our stage show I'm suprised that it hasn't happened before. We'd also dressed the chap in question up in a badger suit and told him to go mental so we have to take some responsibility. In fact, if I hadn't been distracted by the delightful young lady in the front row who had just dropped her dungarees I might have seen the badger coming.

The Realist that came with my Eminence gave up the ghost about 3 or 4 months ago - low/variable output followed by crackling and then chronic flatulence. It probably lasted about 4 years which is a bit crap when you consider the cost but understandable when you think of the physical pressure they're under.
Which pup are recommended for Eminence instruments?
You could try a Fishman Full Circle. You'll have to trim the posts down a bit so that it fits in the Eminence bridge (it replaces the height adjusters) but it works well by all accounts.

The same thing happened to me on Friday night at Wimborne folk festival. A drunk punter tripped over the front of the stage right into my bass, taking out the bridge and dropping the soundpost. Luckily it was halfway through the last song so the gig wasn't completely screwed. also very luckily managed to get my local luthier to re-set the soundpost and bridge in time for Saturday night's gig.

I use one of those little Roland 4x2.5 battery combos. I bought it for busking but it gets more use at home.

Our guitarist buys all his gear from the music shop in Bridport. No idea what its like for bass gear but he's picked up some nice guitars from them.

Well, I'm glad you've come to your senses - it all seemed a bit hasty to me. Plus, I really couldn't believe that a cab with this spec couldn't handle a drum kit and a pair of mandos... My MA45 arrives tomorrow (finally!!) and I'll be giving it a right seeing to over 3 gigs this weekend. I've actually worked out how to get enough poke out of my Omni 10.5 (on a stand and to my side rather than behind me) so I'm expecting great things from Mike's cab.

I usually need a shower.

I'm not a pro (or in a function band) but I do make money... Our model is to focus on festivals in the summer, pub gigs in the winter with weddings and private parties in the gaps. Low paying festivals & support slots are bumped up by merch sales and every now and again we put our own nights on where we promote the hell out of it in return for the door take or a percentage of the bar take. We never rely on one type of gig, we're always thinking of the next new or interesting thing we can do. Smaller speakers work better with double bass, 15 inch speakers would be unbearably bassy. 10s are used in most bespoke bass cabs, the latest generation are using 5 inch drivers...

The band I play in. Apparently we're sexual deviants...

Sounds to me like the letter writer is one of the angry husbands/boyfriends...... -
They were about £700 plus back in the 90s. The original Bass Collections are very under appreciated these days and the jazz model is less well known than the SB models, so I'd put the actual market value at £250-300. It's 'worth' a lot more though, a new bass of similar quality would set you back £500 or more.

Really enjoyed that - a great song with a well thought out structure and dynamics. Will definitley try to catch you on tour. Well done!

The advice I recieved from a veteran slap player last weekend was "Ride the D string like a m*********er. Once you've got the rhythm right, move onto the A, then you can speed up" So, I've followed his advice and I'm slowly getting there. Start slow, making sure you get a good clean snap against the fingerboard and get a nice steady rhythm going - speed isn't important at this point, just a good clean snap and a steady pace. Once you've got a clean technique, you can up the tempo. As far as I can see it's all down to practice and perseverance. It's not a simple technique and it's physically very demanding, so you've just got to start slow and work your way up, making sure you've got the snap working before you move onto a slap or drag triplets.

Erm.....no. You could get something for 100 quid but it won't be playable. It will be bass shaped fire wood. The best you can hope for is a second hand Stagg electric upright (EUB) but you'll still be looking at :£200-250. Sorry, but its not a cheap instrument to make and 500 is probably the minimum you can pay and get something that can actually be played - double that for something that can be played and sounds half-decent.

I fancy an Epiphone Jack Casady, should I? I DID NBD
TheRev replied to police squad's topic in Bass Guitars
I've been gassing for a Jack Cassady/semi acoustic for a couple of months now. I can afford one, but can't really justify the cost as all my gigs are on double bass. So I'm going to buy OneHorseMurphy's little Italia bass instead......
