1.
I used to gig with a Hartke 3500 with a 410xl and a 210xl and it was just superb - quite often I used just the 210 by my side on stage as a monitor.
This is your old 210xl Ped, I sold it to Sparky a few weeks ago! I'm with Merton on this one - if you like the sound and it fill your criteria portability wise, why change things?
2. I've got 2 Omni 10.5 with switchable tweeters courtesy of Thumper over in the other place. I'm in Bristol, available by appointment.... I'm still getting to grips with these cabs but so far i'm very impressed. They sound particularly good with upright bass.
3. I played a support gig on Friday night and the the bassist from the main band use my head and cab after his died. He was happy enough to go through the PA but it was a chance for me to hear what my new cab (BFM Omni 10.5) sounded like, plus he was a nice bloke. I've no problem with letting others use my amp & cabs as long as they're not complete tw@ts and ask nicely.
4. I tend to go in cycles from basses to effects to amps. I'm happy with my basses at the moment and I'm not using fx in my current band so my GAS is focussed on finding a lightweight amp to go with my new pair of Omni 10.5s. I'm looking at you, Markbass.....
5. Cheers Sparky - hope you're getting on with the 210. Biggsy - you have a PM.
6. Hi Biggsy I've got a Hartke 115XL sitting around doing nothing. Obviously it's not as light as a 115TP but many people believe the XLs sound better than the TPs.... I bought it new about 2 years ago and for the last year it hasn't left the house so it's in very good condition. It sounded great paired with a 210, so it'll sound amazing with a 410 I reckon. Interested?
7.
Don't know who said it about bass "Never play anything above the 5th fret"
I think that was Aston 'family man' Barrett of the Wailers. 'It doesn't matter if it sounds particularly good on its own, as long as it sounds like a bass' - Poni Pallidino
8. Go for it. I put Roto flats on mine for my folk-rock band and it sounded perfect - removes the top end harmonics but keeps the fundamentals nice and clear. It was great for playing old soul stuff too.
9. Danny Thompson, although I've been listening to him for years without knowing it as he's the first chioce double bass session dude judging by the number of albums he's played on.
10.
Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. That single pick up guitar is made of Korina (of flying V fame) which is quite good, and that's the cheapest one. The rest, the more expencive ones? AGATHIS!
Apparently this one Mondial is mahogany with a maple top. Tasty.
11. I'm very much liking the look of these at the moment. Italia Particularly the Mondial and the Ampeg copy... I must be having a bout of retro GAS. Has anyone tried/got one?
12. Sterling. They each feel a bit different and have slightly different tonal qualities so you should try all three and find the one that suits you best. Failing that, just buy a Sterling
13. Hi Mike. On the back of the SWB there's a threaded hole which is the right size for a camera tripod. I picked up a cheap one which is sturdy enough to stop it toppling over. Having said that, I've done plenty if gigs where I've forgotten the stand and just wedged it into a corner out the way and not had any disasters so far.
14. The Squier Vintage Modified Jazz basses are getting a lot of mentions at the moment and they're a lot less than your £400.
15.
I suppose I was hoping for more bass less beer, but hey; there's room for both !! (Maybe I should have started a proper thread and not hijacked this poor guy's intro)
Yeah - sorry about that. A proper South West bass bash would be great if 'someone' can find a bass friendly venue and we have enough confirmed attendees to pay for the bugger. Any ideas?
16.
If you think you are brilliant, buy a fretless...see..that'll teach you you cocky little bugger.
Class!! There's nothing like a fretless bass, dark stage and a crap foldback mix to help you fill you trousers.
Buy an Upright
++1 - which will go a very long way to avoiding the point above. There's some gems coming up here. Good work guys!
17.
Talking of which what happened to the idea of a Bristol/Bath/Somerset meet?
It never got past the idea stage - nobody seemed willing to organise anything. If we're just talking about meeting for a beer then it shouldn't be too difficult. Anyone in Brizzle fancy a bass related pint?
18. Why are people suddenly unloading their Sterlings? There seems to have been a rash of them up for sale recently. I reckon you're all f#@*ing mental, I'll give up my Sterling when you prise it from my cold, dead hands.
19. 1) The spaces you leave are just as important as the note you play. 2) Never, ever leave a drummer alone with the rider.
20. He was only about 17 or 18 at that time. Makes yer sick......
21.
At least they don't light up. yet. BB
Now there's an idea........
22.
Hi Rev Thanks matey, like you said, more space less notes, I find myself mostly playing roots or 5th above or under, and the impact comes from the feel of the note and when it's played. What EUB are you playing?
It's an Aria SWB Lite. I don't think it sounds terribly close to a proper DB but with a DB playing technique (or as close as I can get!!) it's definitley passable. Plus it fits in my car! TBH, when I bought it I was actually looking for a new fretless but it popped up on the for sale forum on Bassworld and I thought 'what the hell'.
23. Nice one Sub! I've only been playing upright for about 8 months but I've found you can do a lot with one note, a slide and a bit of vibrato! I wouldn't worry about your stickers. my EUB has dots at the harmonic points and I'm happy to admit I'd be lost without them. Anyway, no-one else can see them but me....
