Opinions please - Bass based on my friend's Guitar builds?

My old fretless Status Electro (that I actually rather miss) had a similarly flat neck profile. I really liked it. P -
Opinions please - Bass based on my friend's Guitar builds?
philw replied to Painy's topic in Bass Guitars
Wow! That's some of the most beautiful and skilled lutherie I've seen for a while. A Rob Allen style bass (fretless, no lines!) made in the same style would be amazing. P -
Thanks all for the thoughts on this. P

Morning all (unless of course you're reading this at an alternative time of day or night...) I'm thinking of downsizing from my Mark Bass CMD 121H to something smaller and lighter and was wondering about the Ibanez Promethean P3110. I've not tried a Promethean but I've seen a few and they look pretty cool. Folk always seem to speak well of them too. So does anybody here have any direct experience they can share? Ta Phil

Tribute bands - where the name is better than the band
philw replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
I just heard that the brother of a friend plays in, "Genesisn't". -
Fretless? Me? Nah, never even seen one, let alone ever played one. 🙂 Saw you so long ago in Bruford (the double bill with Brand X) Jeff that it's truly scary. Greetings

Yeah I wondered if it was related to the Ibby SRH but having had a quick look on the Ibby website I suspect not. The Ibby has a forearm contour that's missing on the Cort and the body shapes are generally different too. I payed an Ibby SRH at GAK a while ago - it was really lovely, if a bit of a one trick pony. P PS. Speaking of Ibby, I've just noticed they've introduced their take on the NS Omnibass. I quite want one of those too: http://www.ibanez.com/products/eb_detail18.php?year=2018&area_id=3&cat_id=2&series_id=54&data_id=183&color=CL01

I've always had a soft spot for fretless, thin-line style mag/piezo instruments and I've owned quite a few over the years (Status, Manne, Veillette, Fender, Yamaha), and now I've gone and spotted this from Cort and I'm a bit smitten: http://www.cortguitars.com/en/product/product_view.asp?qCate=00003&qSeries=130&qProdTag=&qPack=&qNew=&qKey=all&qWord=&idx=1291 I need help. Because products like these are costed down to the last penny. They have to be to make the business viable – manufacturing and selling things is really tough.

So here's a thing.... When Ibanez launched the entry-level Talman range a couple of years back, I loved the look, especially the mint green one, but thought it was crying out for a maple fingerboard. And what do you know... https://reverb.com/item/10079165-tmb100mgr-talman-mint-green-ibanez If only I had £180 down the back of the sofa.

I had a pair of L2s, fretted and fretless, not all that long ago. Utterly brilliant basses and I wish I still had them.

I'm sure the the ACG Retro B is lovely, but it is surely somewhat ironic that the only reply on a thread entitled, "What's new and interesting" links to a bass that's, effectively, old and derivative :-)

Try Marcello Nardelli. He made and finished the body for my Surf Jag so I'd imagine he'll be very happy to do a Daphne blue jazz body. You'll find him here: nardellibass.com or via his ebay shop: nrdbass. P
Maybe I'm just being a bit thick / missing the point here, but the spec says: Inlays Ebony Side Blocks Frets Fretless Isn't that what we're seeing in the picture, a fretless fingerboard with ebony inlays stretching halfway across it rather than lines, and definitely not half-frets?
Oh yeah, looking closer, you're right. So I got all intrigued over nothing at all. Please ignore all future posts....
What about this : http://ubass.free.fr...l/gillesUB2.jpg
Ohh I've always fancied a Leduc U-Bass. Never seen a half-fret one before though.

Anybody else noticed this from Schecter: http://www.schecterguitars.com/international/bass/session/stiletto-session-5-fretless-aged-natural-satin-detail I know it's bonkers but I've always been intrigued by the idea... P PS. GAK have them in stock at £719 for the fiver and £689 for the four string. Too expensive now for a punt, but maybe when they're clearing stock?

The 006 serial number on the back suggests there's only five others, so I guess it's no great surprise few of us have heard of the brand. Cool looking bass though.

Oh really love that. Congratulations.

Of course, only after I'd started a new thread did I spot this pinned one. So, here's what I had to say about Paul Stevens in Eastbourne: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/308933-paul-stevens-guitars-lutherierepairssetups-in-east-sussex/

This may look like just another excuse to post a picture of my Surf Jag, but actually I wanted to give a shout-out to Paul Stevens. http://paulstevensgu...lstevensguitars Paul did a bit of work on the Surf Jag recently ('cause when I put it together I rushed and really didn't finish the job properly) and it's gone from a bass I was really chuffed with to one that's now completely fabulous. Paul shielded the control cavity and re-made my dodgy soldering, re-set the neck with a thin hardwood wedge to adjust its angle, reset the pickups on the right kind of foam and did a really classy setup. He's a lovely guy too and I can't recommend him highly enough if you're after this kind of thing in East Sussex. Here's the Surf Jag picture:
