1. eBay and Paypal will protect the seller, the notion that they're biased towards the buyer is nonsense. I once sold a neck on eBay which i believed was an original Fender neck, it sold for £115 or there abouts. The buyer was in France, pestered me for days about how long it was taking to arrive - it was the height of the postal strikes. It arrives and he complains it's not original. Fine I say, send it back at your cost and full issue will be refunded. No deal, full refund first or no neck return he says. So a dispute is raised and all hell breaks loose with accusations that the item was listed incorrectly and other rubbish that the frets were worn even though there were masses of pictures, it's listed as used so on and so on... In the dispute with paypal and eBay I raised my concerns that if I issued the refund first I'd have no guarantee that the neck would be return - I could at least re sell the neck as parts or stripped etc and recoup some costs. I kept all my correspondence, some 20+ emails and kept everything above board and very polite. Everything was found in my favour as they believed as I did, that he bought the neck in error and hadn't done his homework right and was trying to get out of the deal. They could of gone the other way, but they didn't. had the neck been returned he would of had a refund, but his stubbornness cost him dear. I nearly offered the refund out of kindness but thought f*** it, he was a bast**d about it, his loss. You have nothing to worry about.
2. Harmonics, or nodes sound at specific points up and down the strings and when you play them they effective divide the string into equal resonant vibrations along the string length. So if you play the harmonic at the 12th fret, the strings us divided equally at that point. Harmonics have nothing to do with frets or fret positions as they're determined by string length. Is it possible that perhaps the intonation is out on the fretted notes compared with the harmonics as these aer fixed, and not the other way around?
3. You'll be fine. I guess it's all down to the item description. As long as you've stated exactly what he was getting, there won't be an issue. Call his bluff and ask him to send the item back, fully insured. Let's see if he's prepared to shell out £20-30 on posting an item back against the the cost of a free case. When it arrives back say the bass is damaged and not in the condition it was posted as.
4. I'm on here, what more do you want! I'll get my coat
5.
Ah nice! What would be an acceptable (cheap!) cab to go with that?
Now you're asking Check out Thomann, as they do a range of deals of mixing and matching heads with cabs. It's worth noting that they do a Kustom 200 watt solid state head for £130 as well! That's not to mention the combo versions they do of the head for just over £220! Not sure what you fully require, but the prices seem right. Especially if you factor in the fact that the gear will be covered by a warranty. I have no idea if it's any good mind, but the youtube demo videos have some positive comments about them. Maybe someone on here has some user experience?
6. For 200 quid you could buy a new Kustom DE300 hybrid solid state head with valve preamp, a bit like the Orange Terror! But not orange, and nowhere near as loud, but significantly cheaper! I think these are brand new, so there's little user reviews about them on the web to date. It would be interesting to see how these fair.
7. "I don't need a P-bass for £60!" "I don't need a P-bass for £60!" "I don't need a P-bass for £60!" "I don't need a P-bass for £60!" "I don't need a P-bass for £60!" "I don't need a P-bass for £60!"
8. Judging by the glowing reviews, it looks like the UK has it's very own SX range More models needed though
9. A lot of SX love here Very well built, a great selection of short scale instruments too. I've modded my fretless 62 jazz to hell! Gotoh bridge, GFS Pro pickups, tried a Varitone but didn't lneed it, and I'm going to rewire the volume pots to 250k versions, for a more authentic vibe. Those Bach basses look interesting, pity there's no short scale versions as in the SX range.
10. You could take someone's eye out with that!
11. This is what will happen to your instrument cable if it were in fact a face and you ran large amounts of current through it: Nuff said
12. Unbelievable bass for the money. Pity I now play short scale Just watch though, every BC-er is going to now buy one, and suddenly Sue Ryder will start thinking "hold on, I can get more money for these if they're this popular!" Won't be surprised if these eventually go up in price!
13.
Also, it's worth learning all the intervals and the various ways to play them. Scales are just a series of relative and cumulative intervals and if you understand this, all scales are unbelievably simple to grasp. Dan
Exactly what he said! Learn the major scale, learn why it is that way, and rest will follow very easily.
14.
Yes. In the fifities and sixties Fender applied the decal over the headstock laquer. With time the decal outline becomes more prominent against the background, especially on coloured headstocks. On a lot of the higher end reissue models Fender replicate that, as is the case on this one.
Well you learn something everyday. It's always wise to ask though if you don't know I guess
15. Is this genuine? If you look closely at the headstock photo, especially around the Offset Counter Body decal, you can clearly see edges to a decal. Is this right?
16. Over the twenty years of playing bass, I've noticed more and more in my playing a desire to keep the bass line right for the song. So less ego, and more discipline in my approach. This doesn't mean however, that I always succeed in doing this This is called maturity. Turning off part of your brain that's saying 'do this here, and put that in there' sometimes is a very hard thing to do. Especially, if you've invested lot's of time in rehearsal and practice and in getting your chops right. There's a desire to be seen to be heard. This isn't just a bassist thing, it applies to all musicians across the board. Thing is, most everyday people probably can't identify the bass part in a song, they'll only notice it's not there when it's gone. Or they'll notice it more if it's playing something that doesn't quite fit with their expectation and understanding of the song, but they might not be able to explain why it's not quite right. Does that make sense? At the end of the day, it's about being mature enough to know that what you're doing is right for the song. If you can't do that, then all you're ever going to do is nothing more than musical masturbation at the expense of true musicianship.
17. I'm still smitten by the whole experience of my first valve rig. It's heartening to know that the Little Bastard 30 is only about £320 ish new (I think?)! I'm seriously thinking about this one as my first valve purchase. I quite often do small pub gigs, and my band isn't very loud. This could be the one to go for as a 'feeler' for the whole tube vibe. From what I've read, this very modest head delivers quite a punch, and I think would work well in our band setting. I could always mic up the cab if I need to be slightly louder. I'm thinking that I could get the head and a decent cab all in for just about £500, more than achievable I think. Anyone got thoughts on the LB30 head, just out of curiosity?
18.
Moondance?
you beat me to it
19. That is so cool and uber cute. Time to start saving
20. This is a great thread. As some of you may have read, I ran through my first ever valve rig on Sunday, and I was completely blown away by the depth, warmth and expressive tone available. I've never had that before through a bass rig. It was an Orange head and 4x10 cab. I was completely blown away by it, and now I'm seriously smitten by the who tube vibe. This is the head I'm seriously considering, as I want that type of tone, but not at the expense of my back Good to know that others find this a good head.
21.
Only if you jump the queue...
I'll fight you for it
22. A great replacement bridge that swaps out easily with the original one. The bridge is well made, has good weight and doesn't cost a fortune, unlike a Badass. The bridge is also well sized (good footprint) and works well on all sizes of bodies, whereas the Badass is just large full stop and can be overkill on some basses.
23. Rules state you must post a price also.
