What a difference an internal preamp makes to an OLP!
Good job. It sounds great. Interesting that you decided to keep the battery under the pickguard. I am wondering whether to route out for a battery box.
Me and Paul debated this, and under the pickguard is a good solution in as much as it keeps the aesthetic and retail value up - it doesn't matter if the work under the pickguard is a little rough. It does however, make for awkward battery changes when needed. Not a big problem, just one of those things. -
You dont even have to do this much. I upgraded mine with a cheap Artec preamp and some Rotosound 77 flats, shielded it properly and it sounds awesome (IMHO).
I've had an Artec and they're good value for money for sure. The Audere was spare, so an install seemed like a good thing to do -

-Veeeery nice. You should do a vid with a bit of knob tweeking so we can see (hear) the full effect of the onboard EQ. I take it that the pickup sweep blends between the front and back coils of the pickup? Is there a center dent for both on in the middle?- I intend to do just that, but I'll record that straight in with a DI to get a better sound etc. The balance does exactly as you described, but the centre isn't indented unlike the 2 stacked tone controls. Paul did a sterling installation to get the pickup selection right. The difference isn't massive, but noticeable. In this video, the back part of the pickup is selected.' -
Hi guys and gals, thought you might find this interesting and useful. If you don't know, I play an OLP Stingray bass which I love, but the electronics are a little lack lustre. Decided to fit an internal Audere Classic 4 band EQ system and new basslines pickup. Paul Rose (Prosebass) did the installation, and this is the result... see what you think This is the breakdown of what is actually going on: 1. An internal Audere Classic 4 Band EQ preamp, the stacked knobs are: volume/pickup sweep, hi mid/lo mid, treble/bass - battery is located under the scratchplate just below and in front of the pickup, the internal cavity has been slightly expanded to accommodate the preamp and larger pot fittings. 2. A Seymour Duncan Basslines SMB-4a Alnico pickup (not 3 coil) 3. Fitted with La Bella 760 flatwound strings 4. Internal shielding throughout 5. Improved higher gear ratio machine heads for better tuning (bought them secondhand, not sure of make but so much better than the standard fitted heads) The bass is running through an Ashdown LG1000 head into an Ashdown Superfly 48 Neo cabinet. The drum pattern is actually running from an iPod app called Instantdrummer 'Heartbreaker' featuring the drumming talents of Jason McGerr. Recorded direct to camera with no editing. Cheers Paul for some sterling work
I would buy but this is the rig I bought (cost me around £650). If I were updating I'd be thinking of tc electronics rather than ibanez and a suitable cab so I'm intrigued at your choice of ibanez.
Tried the TC stuff, and while it's very nice, the combo with detachable head is a bit more appealing. I simply don't need anything bigger. Is there meant to be a link in your reply btw? -

I was around at Paul's the other day and got to see this up close, and it looks really good... I think you'll be very pleased with it. Myself and Paul are in talks about building a shortscale ergonomic bass!
MB1. ...Youre link doesnt work! Your after lighter gear than this or smaller gear still? BUMP!
The link did work, but you needed to be a friend of the person who's profile page it was on, and I didn't think about that I've uploaded it to Youtube and adjusted the link accordingly. Cheers for the shout out on that! Why am I selling? I just like the idea of a more modular system, and yes a bit lighter. I really like the setup I have, but I have to use a practice amp as well and in my weird unlogical world that's just too much The Ibanez Promethean is appealing because it's a small lightweight combo good for practice and small gigs. Coupled with an extension cab it becomes a 500 watt small stack. Remove the head and it becomes useable with anything! That is very appealing to me. Plus I am in talks with Paul (Prose Bass) about a custom ergonomic bass build to make my setup smaller and more back friendly. I have a very bad back from a seizure a few years ago. That's it really. Thanks for the bump -
*First off, the LG1000 head has been sold to Bassman in Belgium* Up for grabs is an Ashdown Superfly 48 Neo cabinet. There's a brief video clip here of me using the setup giving you some idea of tone etc: The Superfly 48 Neo Cab: I can't state enough just how good this cab is, it's built like a tank and capable of handling tone very well. The cab is designed as two '2x8' cabs run together with each side running at 4ohms. This means if you pair it with the Superfly Head, or the LG1000 head you can get the full power from each head from the cab. The size is very good and portable, more so than a 4x10 say. I can quite easily do a trip from the car in one go with bass on one shoulder, gig bag on the other and cab in hand (the recessed side handles are well placed). Has a few small scuffs on the corners as you would expect from gig use. This is however very superficial - the rest of the cabinet is immaculate. Pricing: For the Ashdown 48 Neo Cab I'm asking £299 collected (no postage). I'm more than happy to meet anyone part way on collection if it helps sale, but I would expect fuel costs to be covered. I'm happy to drive about an hour (ish) each way from postcode BB2 (Blackburn). Payment would be either Paypal or cash on collection. Questions more than welcome. Cheers for looking
