This model of bass is pre Escape series. They're hand-made American basses (newer ones are made in the far east), and this one is about 12 years old approx, with only 185 being made making it quite rare. The truss rod adjustment is indeed at the end of the neck, and it's essentially an all one piece bass. I'll take some more in depth photos and upload them later so you can see more of the detail better. -

I regret selling my 1996 50th Anniversary Edition P-Bass Deluxe with precision and humbucker pickup configuration. An absolutely beautiful bass, I don't know why I really sold it. Went to someone eBay a few years back. Would love to get it back too. Can't find the original photo to read the serial number though, only this low quality version

I've confused myself with modes!!
derrenleepoole replied to Amazoman's topic in Theory and Technique
Ah! My bad, I was obviously refering to the natural minor. That just goes to show that even after 20 years of playing it's easy to get terminology wrong! I must confess, I don't practice theory any more, even though I understand it at a reasonably basic level. It's certainly a minefield -
C harmonic minor - CDEbFGAbBC but starting on the G becomes: GAbBCDEbFG
Where's the Bflat if it's mean't to be C harmonic minor? Or have I missed something? Not that I'm picky or anything -
IME guitarists are often taught how to play patterns rather than how to read music.
This is so true of bassists too, and I suspect the OP has got themselves into a rut purely because of this. Playing in a certain way with no real understanding of how to break free of it. I went through exactly the same thing when I first started out. I think they key to really developing your playing, is knowing your fingerboard inside out. Many people don't realise that a scale played in one position of the neck, Cmaj starting at the 3rd fret A string for example, will sound completely different tonally when playing at the 8th fret E string for example. Knowing how to use these subtle nuances with different playing positions can really open up your vocabulary, tone and timbre and make for much more interesting bass lines. Even how and where you use your fingering technique can all produce dramatic and interesting bass line work even with the simplest of notes. Modes have there uses for sure and if you feel it would help you improve musically then go learn them. But learning to use your instrument to it's fullest potential as a tool of your trade irrespective of musical theory, will yield far better and more immediate results in the short term, but will put you in good stead for the long term. -
You can't buy them in this country
I've actually seen these at HW Audio in Bolton, but couldn't tell you if they have any now. Also, there are a couple of eBay shops occasionally listing them in the UK, but it seems to be very hit and miss on models available. But for the most part they seem to come from Belgium on eBay.

Just as the title suggests, up for sale is an American hand-made Traveler Pro Series travel bass guitar. The bass is in mint condition and has been kept in a smoke and pet free home. It comes complete with original gig bag, stethoscope for silent practice and a printed out hand drawn schematic from Traveler of the internal pickup and electronics setup. The bass features a jazz style pickup as well as a piezo in the bridge with the option to select between the two as required. The bass is 32" scale length and packs down to a bag sized at 915 x 270mm approximately. Even a Sindonido doesn't get that small! So it's very portable. I have it on good authority that only 185 of these were ever made. How do I know this? Well, I asked Traveler directly in America and the original builder told me! It certainly raises eyebrows at gigs and a lot of questions from interested onlookers I'm asking £275 delivered within the UK please. If anyone is wanting delivery overseas I'll have to quote for postage accordingly. I would certainly consider a trade/swap on an electric upright bass or a suitably good fretless bass, as I've been gassing for one for a while now.

Bass Day should be renamed 'Ego Fest' As much as I enjoyed Bass Day, I really didn't want to try any basses simply because of all the egos playing slap bass at stupid non musical speed at stupid volumes all in a relatively small space. I actually watched some guy playing a bass, he was playing quite okay, but as soon as he twigged someone might of been paying attention out cam the super slap style to simply show off! Unfortunately he wasn't alone in doing this.

Not a huge Hofner fan myself, but just saw Ralf Gauck at Bass Day using a lovely fretless version with black flats. A really nice earthy and woody tone, and made me GAS for one. Great player too who did lots of solo bass arrangements of Beatles tunes.

Just got back myself, but had to leave early and so missed Nathan East. Poogie Bell was amazing though I did some recording of some of the sets on my Zoom H2, and some have come out okay if any one is interested? Annoyingly someone knocked my recorder part way through the Adam Nitti set, so only have it half way through. I have all of Maurizio Rolli's set, but there's is some small clipping part way through. I also recorded some of Steve William's set at the beginning. PM if you're interested. -
Noticed you're in Saint Helen's which ain't too far from Blackburn, where in resides the fabulous upright player and teacher Steve Berry (Loose Tubes). Steve is a monster player and his lessons are really indepth and practical. I can give you a contact number if required.

If you amp has a DI out already, then I'd simply use that. The bass amp could then be run at lower level for backline monitoring for yourself and the drummer, letting the PA do all the volume work.

MMCP Style preamp onto an OLP Stingray
derrenleepoole replied to derrenleepoole's topic in Repairs and Technical
hi you will need room for all the gubbins and a battery chamber..then a switching jack also i would think some idea of what connections the pickup wires go to iirc someone had an olp pup which had less wires than a musicman..sort of...your pup should have at least 2 hots and an earth...i suspect 2 hots and 2 earths...and maybe a screen around them could mean some routing etc
This is the crux of the problem: Basically, the instructions are printed out in black and white, no biggy but just odd. The are a total of 4 wires from the humbucker pickup, 2 for each side I'm guessing, and the ground from the bridge. The preamp only has 3 wires to connect - 1 to the bridge ground, 1 to the hot wire of the pickup and 1 to the ground of the pickup (as the instructions call it). Now I've never owned a bass with a humbucker before, but I have successfully installed an Audere into a jazz bass. I guessing I need to wire the humbucker in a specific way, but this is were I'm coming unstuck and need the help. -
Got myself one of these to go into my single pickup OLP Stingray, but I'm having trouble installing it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this properly? Cheers... Derren.

First departure into Double Bass....advice
derrenleepoole replied to Changles's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Time to start saving up the pennies for it then!
I picked a full size (4/4) DB from a school clear out for a mere £50!!!! The sound post had slipped, other than that it was quite playable and worth considerably more. It was a Meinel I believe and was about £20 years old. Nothing super amazing, but it did the job. Might be worth ringing around schools etc, as most now don't have orchestra's and such. -
