Back after a couple of years.. how good is my gear?
Great rig. Good to have you back on basschat.
Thankyou, the place hasn't changed! -
Hi all, was a regular reader of the site until academia and such got the better of me and I ended up neglecting all things bass for a good 2 years (I know, how could I?). Basically, I'm fully intending and determined to get back into playing now and I was wondering, what's my gear like 2 years on? It was never the best but it was alright for a player of very humble abilities, I'm just intrigued as to how much technology has moved on in the past couple of years.. Now if the Bongo gets called a 'toilet seat' bass..!

Amazing technique, thoroughly enjoyed that. Keep it up, blew me away

Has anyone noticed how good the bassist is? Quite inspiring to me to be honest

What does everyone reckon? Good value? Load of crap? What's the going rate for giving a blank raw-wood body into a luthier and getting a finish put onto it? Got quoted £200 but that seems a little steep to what I had in mind. It may not be though, that's why I'm asking!

Sorry to hear that Mike
This may be of interest to you.....
If you've already got the pick up, just changing the bridge to a Badass/Gotoh style and some better quality machine heads will make no end of difference. I've got a gotoh style bridge, sandberg tuners and a seymour duncan quarter pounder in mine. Admittedly, i did rip out the jazz bridge pick-up.
Reckon it would be easy to change the jazz route to a MM one? I've agreed a sale for a Delano P pick-up, so was hoping to pair it with the MM (same electronics as the Sandberg PM4) and put an active circuit in it
Have a look at the Squier Precision Specials(?). Very jazz-ish neck, and you can upgrade the hardware with the money you've saved. I have one....
Considering my budget, would 'pimping' one of these be the best option? What's your opinion on the bass? I know beggars can't be choosers but my two other basses are in the colours that the squire is available in, and I would ideally prefer a change. Still, if it's the best option that wont stop me
Here you go mate, I've used them a few times, they are ace. http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/The-STRATosp...p;submit=Search
Just the trick mate!! Thankyou so much! If I bought one of the empty bodies, what else exactly would I need to buy (excuse the stupid question, I just want to be sure)? Neck, bridge, pick up, control pots and a pickguard?
-
Going to be buying a new bass in the very near future, and I am absolutely stumped. I've asked before and I've scoured the internet, but as I'm left handed, choice is extremely limited. I simply want a nice 4-string Precision for under £500. I've got a great P pick-up on hold and I might swap the neck for a jazz, so I guess the body is the most important thing. Second hand recommendations are welcome, but the lefty S/H market isn't exatly bustling Cheers

Two very similar basses, same electronics; what are everyone's opinions? Any good, which one is better etc. Comments appreciated, thanks

Come across a decent looking bass, and after googling the brand and yielding no results, thought I'd ask on here.. The bass in question is: http://www.waltons.ie/Product/View.aspx?id=28448 . Ash body, nice finish. Seems pretty good to me for the price. Nice headstock too although I probably won't be using the neck if I got it... So, has anyone ever heard of them before? If so, what are they like? It seems judging by the product page, basses/guitars aren't their main thing: http://www.waltons.ie/product/manufacturer.aspx?mid=70
