this....? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=52779 status have good necks
If it was a lefty then yes, I'd be interested. Thanks for all the other suggestions, I do like the aesthetics and tone of Warwicks, but as said they really are chunky necks. Sometimes I wish I wasn't a lefty!

My 5-string isn't easily playable enough for me as it has a really flat fingerboard radius and a wide neck, so I'm looking for a bass with the following specification: - 4-String, left-handed - Very slim, 'rounded' neck (ala a jazz bass) - Active - Two p'ups (no P-bass pickups) - Adequate space between the top p'up and the fingerboard for slap I like a nice warm, clean, almost 'vintage' tone. I'll be playing metal and indie mainly. Ideally, the fretboard would be unlined fretless but I know that they're basically none existant at my price range, which is a maximum of £500, I'm willing to go for excellent condition S/H's. Thanks for your help guys, I'm stumped so far, any recommendations much appreciated

Found a bassist that has found my pretty much ideal bass tone. I can't really think how to put it into words though, can anyone help me? And possibly tell me what equipment would be able to atain it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsmLK0LZHGo Not the best of qualitiest, you can find the song by searching the band name on spotify too, it's on there in better quality Thankyou

One of my favourite bands are a prog death metal band called The Faceless. They're all extremely talented, most notably the lead guitarist if I'm honest (arent they always ), but their bassist, Brandon Giffin, is extremely talented. I love his sound and, probably triggered by an effects pedal, when he cuts through the mix for a small 'solo' (if you will) part his bass almost 'gurgles'. He's endorsed by Warwick and Eden and uses a streamer (not sure of specifics as I'm not really a 'wick lover, but it has slanted p'ups?) Anyone heard of him before? What are your guys opinions on him? For me, when I'm writing stuff for my metal band he very heavily inspires and influences me Check him out on their myspace (I recommend listening to 'The Ancient Covenant' from a bass perspective): http://www.myspace.com/thefaceless Greatly appreciated
HK instruments are marketed by german distributor Hermann Kempf from Bückeburg. Some instruments are cheap chinese made OEM instruments (by factories like KHL or Aofa) while others are a little more upscale. Though they may look pretty or exclusive they are not expensive instruments. Actually this 7 string was advertised last year for a steep 1000 GBP on the HK website, looks like prices have dropped. If you look further on the Internet you'll find similar models under other brand names. Added: picture of an AOFA, inexpensive yet exclusive looking six string bass...
Thankyou for the info. So, are they a good deal? KA p'ups are pretty good are they not?

If you take a look at their shop they have other basses like this too all for ridiculously cheap prices. Anyone know about 'HK' and why they're so cheap!?
The Toby Pro isn't American if that's what you mean? They are Korean too, the Americans are called Tobias, then whatever model, not Toby.
Ah, the second one isn't called Toby, just the Tobias logo on the headstock. So it must be American Thanks for clearing that up
I believe 200/250 to be an ok price - MusicYo and Sound Control both went t*ts up over the same period and a lot of good stuff was being sold at really really low prices for clearance and administration purposes. If the first Toby bass in your thread is neck thru then it is definitely worth it. The other one may not be an USA model after all as he says it has an upgrade to EMGs but from what ? All USA made Tobias had Bartolinis. The current bible lists Korean Tobys in excellent condition as worth $500 - 650. BB
It's bolt-on mate Which do you think is better value? And how much do you actually think the other one is worth?
Snooping round t'intenet the pick-ups are likely to be mighty mite DX5s normally found on Ibanez basses and some people feel they dont have enough power out of them, If it is a lefty ur after, there is an American one on ebay at the moment but obviously not in the same price range £500- but no-one has bid on it with less than a day to go so if it fails to sell contact the seller and try to make a deal if ur budget allows. The US built ones are definitely worth it BB
Already done that mate , and yeah it is a lefty I'm after. It's either this, an SR500L or another bass of similar ilk S/H (and under £500). Is the SR500L better? Also, as thedontcarebear mentioned before, the 'pro' models as the American one seems to be were being sold for less than half the price, is it worth roughly the price its up for? Thanks you guys
I had one of them. Toby Deluxe I think it is, available from Musicyo back in the day, and Sound Control I think it was in the UK, whatever the name of that one that went out of business was. I think the Pro's are probably worth 200-250, with that probably 150 or so, musicyo blew them out really cheap when they closed the european warehouse, and Sound Control got rid of the pro's for something like £170 new at the end. Made in Korea I think, maybe by Cort?
Ah, so it's overpriced then at £200? Thanks for the heads up Is this the pro you are talking about, or is this a new model?: http://i9.ebayimg.com/03/i/001/2b/d7/423e_1.JPG http://i7.ebayimg.com/05/i/001/2b/d7/596b_0.JPG http://i6.ebayimg.com/07/i/001/2b/d8/055d_0.JPG
I think they are the same as American Tobias but assembled in Asia somewhere and are quite respectable - The necks on American ones are superb (they have an assymetrical profile) but i think these ones ( called a Toby to indicate non USA ) dont have the mega pickups (Bartolini possibly????)of the stateside ones but should have the nice neck. S/H £200-250 would be reasonable. BB
So they should have the same neck as the Americans, but not the p'ups? The specs say 'bartolini designed' pickups, are they the same thing? Says it has a bartolini pre-amp too Also, is the scale 34' or 35' as I've seen both scales quoted. Is it a jazz-thin neck? Thanks

Anyone know much about these basses? How much should they cost S/H? I'm not 100% sure about the model name, so I'll provide a link to a few pictures I've found (it won't let me tag them into the thread :S): http://i.ebayimg.com/15/!BTi4eBwBWk~...3;9Omcw~~_1.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/18/!BTi4sIwBGk~...CBqm2dg~~_1.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/12/!BTi5DcQ!W...CCqSPWg~~_1.JPG Also, is the finish on the headstock wearing or is it just the strings I can see fraying? Very much appreciated

Extremely light and equally as expensive!

Had a little look and was wondering; does the Ibanez SR500L match my needs? or is there something else more appropriate?
Warwick corvette is the one
, Warwick and slim neck don't belong in the same sentence unless that sentence includes the words 'do not have' right?
