1. Want: Left handed Bass with a slim neck, 4 strings, pref. jazz pickups but soapbars are ok if not. Looking for a smooth, warm tone that can be clearly heard and distinguished. Budget: Around £450, I will go second-hand as long as it's in mint condition Please help people, been searching for ages but haven't found a bass as yet

  5.
erm that was a bit of a confusing question but here is an answer anyway! 400w at 8ohms is the cabs specs. 400w is what it can handle being put into it. If your head can handle 4ohms it will just give half the power out (ish) to this cab as it is 8ohm. And you can then add another 8ohm cab to get the full power out of your head. I'm sure there is someone who can explain this better than me. I'm rubbish with words! phil
Thanks , ok, so, for example if used with a 4 ohm 400W head, the sound would be around 200W, but when put with another 8 ohm cab it would share the 400W equally, therefore still being 200W?
  6. Hi, forgive the nooby question but would that be around 600 watts at 4 ohm, or would it not be able to be ran through a 4 ohm head (unless with another cab, there I know you can run two 8 ohms right?) Thanks
  7.
Works like a normal bass combo, except the circuitry is digital as opposed to analogue. Means that you can have some great modelled valve, solid state, or overdriven bass sounds. Has a nice compression and chorus and has 2 memory slots to store your sounds. I don't have a footswitch but youcan buy cheap ones from maplin that do the same as the roland ones. This amp seems way louder than 250w thanks to the FFP circuit.
Ah I see, so would I be right in thinking it's like my guitarists Line6 amp where he can toggle through ready-set tones he's named and saved? Also, could I see more pictures? How big it is, the condition etc. and honestly, how hard is it to move about? I'm looking for something pretty lightweight, not sure if this is my answer, but with the castors does it move easy enough?
  8.
Search is handy: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=36637 for the first thread about them on here, and then http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49491 for the one posted last week. Doesn't look like they go lefty though, and they're much closer to the proper Gibsons than the bog standard Epiphones: Different neck profile and width, neck through. New features are the laminated neck and the active electronics, they should play better than the bolt ons, whether it sounds as good as a passive t-bird no-one knows until they hit the shops in early July. I'm looking forward to it
Thanks mate, I'll remember to search before I start a post from now on Any suggestions for a slim neck, pref. with j pups (but as this thread shows, I don't mind soapbars) that would produce a nice smooth bluesy, indie tone for under £500? Finding it hard, what with being a lefty and all
  9. Do they make a LH version? Are they any good? Seem like a normal epi thunderbird on steroids, which can't be a bad thing
  10. I read this is a digital amp? How exactly does it work? Also, do you have the footswitch?
  11. Hi, I'm looking for a modern bass tutor to help me improve my technique and knowledge of bass and tone itself, be it from an amp and the bass I'm playing mostly indie and metal, but learn rap basslines for practise and fun. I don't want to really be taught songs, just techniques and how to structure a bassline properly. Thanks
  12.
I've not tried Shine basses so I can't say. It's a decent price though, if it feels right for you why not mod it? As for other basses it depends on what you like. Seems only Ibanez and ESP LTD do decent entry level 6-ers and I cannot recommend an Ibanez BTB enough but they aint as cheap as this nor do they come in left handed. If you want to go for it, go for it. It's a leftie and I don't see many left handed 6-ers so...you can't loose!
thanks for the advice mate; I was actually looking for 4 string J-basses! I have to say it does look great though, and with the contour below the neck for slap it looks like a much more expensive instrument IMO A little off target but I am really having trouble; are there any websites that are actually good for lefties and don't just stock one or two generic LH basses in? And are there, extremely unlikely, a luthier or parts site that would end up amounting to £500 for a bass? Thanks again

    Lado

Good make? Found a seemingly great, gorgeous bass on evilbay for around £750 inc. shipping from America for someone.. unfortunately not me as I'm LH! 15.
Yamaha BB1500 - used ones crop up here from time to time. Or G&L JB2 - you might be lucky and find a used one at the top end of your budget.
Just had a look at them mate, thanks for bringing my attention to them, nice basses I'll look into them further, aslong as they do a LH version? Jeez.. sometimes I think being a lefty is a curse
  16.
If you would like a fretless check out my Warmoth custom. Link in my sig below. Helluva lot of bass for the cash
Nice bass mate, I've had a look before but the thing that makes things infinitly more complicated is that I'm a lefty!
  17.
I would consider this [topic="48917"]Fernandes JP [/topic] that kennyrodg is selling. I can vouch that the bass is excellent in condition , playability and tone plus Pete is a great guy to deal with. And its a whole lot more interesting than a Standard Jazz and better built I would say plus more versatile with the P/J pup configuration. Paul
Thanks for the heads up, it looks like a lovely bass but I'm after a J/J config, with a really slim neck and a smooth, low and pronounced tone, willing to go second hand with a budget of £400/500 Any suggestions for me? Saves me starting a new thread on the subject
  18. Ah OK, thanks guys Thought I'd found a bargain on the bay then :lol EDIT: Does anyone if a SR500 can pull off a jazz tone/sound good playing indie?
  19. Are the basses of this name MIA? Also, how much do they cost new (roughly)? Thanks
  20. The bass is prominent throughout and the tone is really, really clean with nice high mids. Anyone know what bass/type of bass you'd need to achieve that sound? And what EQ settings, both on the bass and an amp? Thanks in advance, particularly interested as I'm starting a new indie project in the near future and I think this sound would work well

  22. Wow. Was round at a friends and his band's bassist left his B-254 there, so even though it was RH I picked it up and straight away I loved it. It has that lovely gurgly, almost clanky yet not actually clanky (which is a tone I hate) tone, and the best action I've ever played (compared to basses triple its price). The U-shaped neck was also brilliant as the narrow, gloss neck was very fast. The p'ups were extremely comfortable to play and I think I went the fastest I've ever played on the bottom string, even though it was essentially the top string as I was playing it upside-down. For the first time I've felt more comfortable playing on the neck than I have on the bridge p'up, because the action is perfectly low whereas on others it's been awkward and very clanky. Apparently it's the factory set-up aswell which is impressive. I didn't have a fiddle with the 5-band eq(?) as I didn't want to mess up the bassist's sound, nor did it need any tweaking in all honesty, the slap tone was immense. The price is also impressive at nigh on £300, but I fear that they don't do a LH version :'(, badly badly GASsing now, does anyone know if they do? Also, what are peoples opinion on this bass, has the guy just got lucky with this brilliant one? Thanks
  23. Pretty self-explanitary, state your favourite brand of bass and it's typical characteristics...
  24. what tone would a J bass with a wenge neck, fretless ebony fingerboard and walnut body with two Js produce? Sounds like a great combination I came across this (but no feedback on how it plays, wondered if anyone had an idea..): http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=3121.0 Thanks
