1. £200 is unbelievable for that! Awesome. Is this a Real Rick? Some debate on talkbass but I'd say it is a modded genuine rick rather than a fakey. Rick?
2.
That's a through-neck Kasuga. Some of the bolt-neck ones were quite attractive: J.
Jesus Christ, that is amazing. Where the hell did you find it if you don't mind me asking? While not quite as popular I'd actually prefer a more adjustable bolt on neck personally.
3. Please can you lot talk me out of buying this, getting it delivered to my Canadian resident girlfriend and trying to sneak it through customs? I mean it's just the nicest thing I've ever seen. Beautiful faker. Better pics
4.
Not a Greco or even Japanese. That's an Italian-made Gherson. Very interesting & much rarer than any JapCrap. Wonder why he's pretending it's a Greco? First random JapCrap name he could think of? Too bad they were never sold in the UK, then. J.
Interesting! Nice looking faker that and pretty close to me.
5. what's the action like and is the neck straight? I am missing my old CMI Rick copy!
6. That looks lovely, fantastic pieces of wood and nothing too drastic needed to get it upand running. There beats the heart of a sweet bass there. Think you'll have to name a guide price for it mate.
7. Regardless of people's opinions I'd say the trade is a totally fair one for both involved. Certainly not 'madness' in my opinion. Good luck with the trade.
8.
Love the radical offset on the (P)Ric pickup. Are you going to be duplicating it on this new project or will you be giving the poor old split coil a more traditional positioning?
Really? You're mad. No it's going back to normal position mate. I never hooked it up when it was in this sorry state. Wish I had now, who knows, it might have been the bass equivilent of the holy grail!
9. Take one quite weird shaped (see upper horn), revoltingly finished, £6.50 P Bass Ebay body. Add Stevie D's currently broken P Bass neck (hope you don't mind me nicking your pic Steve, it'll probably only arrive tomorrow). Now we get really cheap... Stir in an unknown PBass pickup taken from the Hondo Rickenfaker project I bought and never got round to working on (Now belongs to Ash on here who has a far more interesting future planned for it). And you have the foundations for a very cheap PBass! More pics to follow. By the way, if anyone can identify what make that body is from the strange, long upper horn I'd appreciate it! It's a tiny bit thinner than a normal P Bass body. COST SO FAR= £21.50
10.
A knowledgeable tone-freak friend recommends Curtis Novak as someone who completely nails the traditional sound. http://curtisnovak.com/pickups/pb-v.shtml I've never tried them. Has anybody here? Sure you've seen the latest shoot-out over at TB... http://www.atkinsonbasses.com/library/
I hadn't, but thanks. Very helpful sound clips. I quite like the SD.
11. I'm in a similar boat. Currently planning a P bass project from an ebay body I got for a couple of quid and a broken neck I can hopefully fix off here. I have an unknown junker P bass pickup knocking about which might get used but if the project ends up working out I'm probably gonna lean towards one of these. I did get some incredibly lovely 84s for my Jazz off Wizard pickups which are so good I'm tempted buy the Thumper, never played one though.
12. I'd go option 2. You have such an original and individual looking bass there, who the hell is going to know what the bridge should/shouldn't look like? The "floating bridge" thing would do my head in as well so I'd go for the most solid & sturdy contemporary bridge you can get for your money. Those ones look nice.
13.
CMI Twin neck guitar/bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/70s-CMI-Twin-Neck-Gu...=item2c5ad2e6af Rarity value, maybe. But I don't personally think this is worth £400.
TBF, whether true or not, the Bill Bailey bit is the best ebay story I've in a while. Playing both parts of "Peaches" is one of the few uses I could find for a bass/guitar twin neck.
14.
Anyone that's thinking of buying should probably ask for some pics from a different angle. I don't like how the grain angle changes dramatically on the "reliced" areas (indicating a fair old change in depth).
I agree, they look bloody deep craters! Such a nice body/finish to mess up so badly. I've requested pics but if I win it I've resigned myself to strip down the body, refill the whole thing and re finish in nitro.
15.

That really doesn't look weird at all actually. Cheers.
16.
I don't think it would look silly. Personally I'd just strip the whole thing but that's just me
I know what you mean but I don't think I can live with the huge "relic craters" this weirdo has, for inexplicable reasons, added to the front of the bass. I'd have to re finish it blonde or something after filling those up. I've been looking everywhere for a 51 body/standard neck combo picture but nobody seems to have done it. If anyone could find me an image of what it would look like I'd appreciate it.
17. I like Columbus stuff as well. The bass I got for £70 off ebay was the same as that with frets. After stripping it all down, refilling the body ready for spraying (need warmer weather) and re shaping the neck it's coming along nicelyand is a surprisingly nice bass. With new Pickups/Bridge mods it should be the business.
18. How/why the hell has this happened? I'm almost tempted to buy this, fill it, refin and put it with Stevie D's broken neck which is winging its way to me as we speak. The only thing is, would it look ridiculous coupling a 51 reissue body with a standard precision headstock?
19. seems to be quite a few new brand fakers hitting the market in the east now. Saw these the other day. The bridge just looks bizarre. Rick Copy
20. God knows why people do this kind of thing. Here's an Epiphone bass which has been re sprayed with a tin of car paint. Nice one Thunderbird Could be a cool, cheap little project for someone who fancies a bit of sanding/etc. Given the black hardware I'm guessing it's the Gothic version originally. Given these go pretty cheap new I wouldn't go much above his £50 starting bid myself.
21. It's a flash bass so go flash. Pearl.
22.
Aaah, but for the same money (which is what the OP was stating), you can put a MM neck and a better bridge on there, and then there'll be a ruckus... Seriously, that SX I bought from you, once modded, is better than any CV I've ever tried (and I've tried a few). Having said that, once you've changed the neck and the bridge, that's the essentials of a good bass right there - a decent bit of Ash (or Alder) with a good pocket fit is hard to improve on, unless you want to look at luvvery woodgrain. And Chinese electrics are, I'd suggest, very similar... Modding isn't for everyone, tho, so I suppose if we only count out of the box basses, the CVs are better. But they're three times the price. Sue Ryder, anyone?
This modding didn't happen without PICS!!!!!! I'm well chuffed you like that bass mate (possibly the quickest transaction I've ever been involved in, like a drive thru bass sale!)and I see your point, the SX basses are pennies really. Still, I'm actually one step away from sleeping with my CV at the minute. Incidently what did you do with the original tree trunk neck on the SX? I might be interested in buying it back if you've still got it.
23.
I WILL resist the 50's P........!!
I don't know if I can hold out much longer getting one and refinishing it trans amber.
24.
I am not sure about better but I reckon a good example of an SX or Jim Deacon will give them a run for their money.
Having owned an SX precision and a CV precision the squier wins hands down in my opinion. Better build quality, better sound/finish, far more comfortable neck.
25. Sounds awesome mate. In truth I prefer Warmoth projects when they are like these, kind of back to basics with no bells and whistles. Good luck with it, I think Warmoth quality is as good as anything you'll find.
