TBH, I'm more concerned about the Primrose Yellow that appears to be lurking under the black. Oh, and the chances of retrieving any dates are very slim indeed unless they got nitro'd over at the factory.
I think it's the yellow kind of rosewood you often get. I love everything about this listing. I love "obviously it was modified". I love the way if you look at the neck it kind of looks like it's melting.

Just thought I'd ressurect this thread while we are saluting Al's work! This one is a real beauty, does anyone on here own this?
I'd expect to find a lot of ugly, ham-fisted hackery under the bridge pickup surround, in order to accommodate that MM type. These are a lot wider than the size of route the original Rick pup would have had. J.
Didn't think of that but yeah, it could be a mess under there.
I have only just seen this thread. Fantastic work. I had a rick-inspired home build, made by a friend:- http://www.flickr.com/photos/81724272@N00/234239140/ I have some similar build diary pics (somewhere). I also wanted it black - but he was very reluctant to have paint over the wood!!! I may yet do it one day - I wouldn't tell him I'd done it though. If I were capable of doing this, I'd build one with chequered binding, horseshoe and toaster pickups, full width inlays an, yes, probably in black!
Please, as much as love Black Ricks that would be a crime to cover up that wood. Beautiful mate. I've only just seen this thread as well following the rickenfaker thread mention. Shouldn't we be putting this as a sticky or something in salute to Al's incredible work? His other one is even nicer in my opinion. How someone can do that in their home is absolutely amazing.

I'd be wary of the hardware. Al's original build thread is the Lemonbaker bass that this guy claims is the same build. If so, the original PUs he used on the build have both been replaced, possibly by cheap ebay crap.

I think that's absolutely brilliant and totally above board in my book. I'm sick of ebay retards who don't read delivery/payment info before bidding. A mate of mine sold a camera recently with clear "pick up only" delivery instructions. After some tool had won it they then messaged him saying "I live 300 miles away so can't pick up. Can you post it?" Seriously, well done to this guy. This isn't a car dealership. Brilliant.

It was all going well until I saw the close up of the headstock holes.... And then I puked!
Thanks for all that lads. Went to my ma's yesterday am, just got back. Missed all this, the student stuff, the swearing stuff. Can't miss a day here can you The Aria member Ash has up is very tempting, but even at £300 cash picked up, I would have to spend somewhere £20/£50 to get the electrics sorted. Cos I'm thick and even the drummer won't let me near anything technical! As has been pointed out, it's a bolt on and it seems a lot of things are proving hard to sell, so I might give it some time. Ebay in last couple days, virtually perfect 2008 (latest model) USA P, case and candy, £500 start, no bids at end. 6 string Petrucci Yamaha sig bass, immaculate, sold for £500. Cheers, Karl.
Christmas is always a great time to buy bass stuff of t'bay. I got a cool precision bass body for £6.50 yesterday. £6.50!
£350's too much. It's a nice bass, and as good as bolt-necks get - it's the same as Ashley699's pictured up the page a bit, which went for £266 in an open, no-reserve auction. That's a lot more realistic. Jon. EDIT: Oh look!
I agree (hence my ebay offers of £285). Also, one went recently in better nick with a hard case for a BIN of £300.

Some recent covers my band have been doing have got me into playing with a pick. Try playing "Ceremony" by Joy Division finger style and it just sounds awful. I used to be a finger style snob but I'm certainly converting. Picked is just a different sound to me now.
For me it's not the playing, but for certain gigs its the driving / parking / gear loading which I don't look forward to if it's extra hassle.
Seconded. A couple of gigs to 4 people on a week night which you've spent 2 hours driving to can really put me in a crapmood for gigs as well. I've actually started pulling out of gigs if it hasn't been properly promoted and there is just a soundman/promoter/bar staff there when we are a few hours due on stage.
I would have a go for this as it's only 30 ish miles from me, and I have the gig money saved, however; 1. It's more than I am prepared to pay for a bolt on (£350 max). 2. It needs electrical work doing. I am stupid and would need to get that done professionally. Nice looking bass though. Karl.
Sorry if this costs you £350 mate but just to letyou know I messaged the bloke and he mentioned he'd probably take £350.
It's been up before and is somewhat optimistically priced. Last time I asked, I could get a new one (which is a considerable improvement on this prototype) made to my specifications for under $4000.
But why the hell would anyone want to do that? It looks absolutely bloody awful! Wouldn't mind doing a jazz gig with it for the look on people's faces!

I think the new VM jazz looks lovely. I'm a sucker for blocked necks like that and it's in another classic colour. I always wonder what will happen to the price of Squier VM and CV models in 20-30 years. I actually love my sonic blue CV precision to death (it's actually now become my ONLY precision bass such is the quality and feel of it) and whileI tend to bugger about with my basses I'm keeping this one totally stock. Anyone think we may have a JV squier style price hike in a few decades? It does seem squier are producing more instruments than they used to so these won't be as rare but JV squier series instruments are expensive now simply because musicians know they are quality and it's no secret the same is true of these current squiers.
great. up there with a badass, a fraction of the price
Exactly and I like not having BADASS written on my bass cheers. I'm from Preston, it's "arse". I've never said "ass" in my life!

Tokai Jazz(s) - matched fretted + fretless + DGB
Soloshchenko replied to eubassix's topic in Basses For Sale
... you were more right than I (initally) thought: have 2-3 interested in the fretted and another almost confirmed on the FL ! ... Now, somebody must be looking for a new/padded double gig-bag ... surely (?)
Not surprised mate, they are lovely looking basses at a really reasonable price. Good luck with the sales -
It's definitely important to me and it totally changes depending on the style of the bass. For Precisions I prefer them some kind of blue, Jazzes should be white/tort guard and Rickenbackers should be anything but fireglow. Only like sunbursts (or black) on blocked necked Fenders but IMO absolutely everything looks good in natural! How's that for picky?

My advice is stick to your Tokai. Ask yourself why you are upgrading? Given you seem really happy with the sound you are getting now, just because it says Gibson doesn't mean it's going to be an improvement for you. The Tokais look the bollocks to me and looking at pics those shape Pick Ups could easily be swapped forsomething high end.

Jesus, there's a day left and this Hondo is at £410!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-1970s-Hondo-...=item336289e363 I was toying with the idea of keeping my £106 Hondo from Hell when I'd sorted it out but I can't turn my nose up at £300 plus for one on the bay. This is in great condition but bloody hell, I'd expect a top faker for that price.

G&L Tribute L2000 Electric Bass
Soloshchenko replied to kingofthestuntmen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's a fantastic deal if you ask me. Getting a replacement neck for that will be a piece of piss!
