1.
I think oil could look good - providing its half decent wood underneath the grotty paint job? I saw a bass recently (Dorset bass bash...can't remember the owner's name at the mo...but very nice chap) that was oiled but then topped up with Ken Smith polish - it looked very good and could pass for a thin clear coat of lacquer. See what you find, then decide?
I think it should be nice underneath. If you check out the recent one I sold and the natural CMI Rick copy on the for sale section the natural (assuming this was natural originally) they both have lovely grain patterns. Strangley though, the two I mention had silver coloured CMi logos on the TRC whereas this one is black (and looks original/genuine). Maybe that means a different year? (Jon will know) It surely can't have been black originally, unless someone wanted to cover up scratches by applying a bloody awful finish?
2. I've just sold one of these and it's currently bound via courier to Surrey. Absolutely lovely copies and I was really impressed with mine. It sounds weird but I've actually just sold my best sounding bass, it sounds more powerful than my Jazz, I couldn't deal with the body/style of it. Oh well, good luck with the sale.
3. Lovely little basses these with a proper precision sound. I've recently loaned my 60s CV precision in blue to my best mate and I'm missing it already. He keeps offering to buy it but given I paid £190 for it what's the bloody point in selling?
4.
Modern Tuscany.
Absolutely bloody ridiculous price there.
5. I'm thinking of doing the same, pretty much down to one nice Wizard loaded MIM jazz bass which was my first proper bass. My Rick copy is off and my Sqiure CV precision is going on a long term loan to my best mate. We'll see how it goes, I do think I can handle only having one bass. I think...
6. I don't suppose there is a good answer to 2 as it all depends on condition and especially what state the neck is in. Plenty of decent, fairly faithful Rick copies have horrible and rather difficult to adjust actions and as such they are pretty useless. Lots of companies such as Ibanez, CMI, Cimar and Greco made excellent copies (and I'm only scratching the surface). As far as authentic goes, it depends whether you mean in terms of appearence or construction. There are lots of bolt on neck versions and more faithful thru neck ones. Some like like CMI look very similar to Ricks whereas an Ibanez has a very different look due to the pickups. Check this out for a few images of the differences: Talkbass Rick thread
7.
I do like the look of that one.
Cheers mate. It's actually a really nice bass with a cracking sound. It actually sounds a lot more powerful than my Jazz, I've just become too accustomed to the Fenders. It'll make someone very happy it just seems wasted being with me because I don't play it enough.
8. Mines on, as wonderful as it is I'm physically in love with my jazz bass: Rick Copy Hope it doesn't get pulled!
9. Bump Sorry about the lack of response on PMs recently, I've been in New York. All PMs now replied. Didn't say before but there is a slight chance I may consider trades. Fender/Warwick stuff might spark my interest. PM and I try to reply quick.
10. bump No worries Ped!
11.
And there's today bump as expected... perhaps you need to adjust your price, bumping clearly isn't working!
Ped, what on earth is your problem man? You asked me to chill out the bumps and limit them to every couple of days, one reads the 2nd July, the next is the 4th. Can I politely request that now I've done as you asked you butt out of the thread? There's nothing in the rules about having a bass on here for a while (some have been on far longer in fact) but you seem fixated on suggesting I'm doing something wrong on here when I'm not. As I've said, I'm in no rush to sell and am now having second thoughts about it anyway after joining a new band. I've had three offers of £420 for the bass which suggests to me it isn't incorrectly priced, unfortunately they have all been from abroad and I don't want to post to Europe. In fact, I will bring the price down, now £400. I hope nothing else is an issue for you mate!
12.
Well there isn't but lets just say 3 pages is rather a lot
I don't really see why it matters tbh but there you go. I'm not in any rush to sell the bass, had 2 offers from abroad but not gonna ship outside the UK thanks folks.
13. Didn't realise there was a rule against it tbh but no problem.
