Paul donated some decent Squier Machine Heads to my Columbus Bass restoration. As postage wasn't much he charged me nothing for em! What a legend. Real pleasure doing business with the man. I've done a donation to basschat on behalf of his generousity.

Don't chamge the pickups if you like the sound, don't change the bridge unless the strings "move" (mine did on my Mexican so had to get a more secure Gotoh unit on there), just get a set up or look up online ways to do it yourself. Cost:zero

They cover a lot of my favourites but I agree. Lake Placid and Sonic Blues are awesome as are seafoam green. If I found the right bass in these colours would definitely take the plunge. Also, it's not like you are paying peanuts for Standards anymore. They are bloody expensive and should never be a compromise.

That looks like your 20th build mate. Wonderful looking thing.
Now there's honesty for you. Good on you for posting. Top marks.
Cheers. To be honest, I'd probably be just as sceptical myself if I was a punter! It is Fender though and like I say, got nothing to hide so people are free to come and view it. If you can fix the truss rod on it you're probably gonna get a serious bargain. -

I've seen awesome Cimar Rickenfakers in the past. The second listing here looks beyond repair to me. Kind of glad the neck binding is broke or I'd be bidding on this piece of crap. I have issues. My house is the battersea dog home of completely f***ed basses. -
If it's any help they look almost identical to my Fender Mexican Jazz pickups. The rubber strips on the bottom are the same and they have the same shape with the covers off. I'mnot saying they aren't American, they just look similar.
I have a black one of these. They play wonderfully and have a great sound, plenty of middle, even with the P pup solo'd. They seem to have a lot more grunt than other PJs, not sure why, pup placement, freq centres of roll off? Anyway it works. Good luck with the sale Leo
Tried one this week for the first time. Absolutely awesome basses. It out P basses most P basses in my opinion.
Comes with hard cover case - unfortunately I don't have the keys to the case. Erm ... how does this work, then? You buy a locked guitar case and hope there's a Squier P-Bass inside when you force the lock open later?
Don't think it's locked mate. Basschatters in Cambridgeshire, you need to buying this. -
I had an email 'conversation' with the seller, I warned him about my own experiences about the Rickenwaffe and advised him to give a BIN price, I think he might have thought I was trying to pull a fast one. anyway it sold for a lot less than I would've suggested! Funny how some of these reach auction end and others get pulled? You are right it has those Grover type 'wavy' tuners and is probably from the same factory that made the Ibanez bolt on type Rick - I think CMI were an importer's (rebadged) inhouse brand, if you look at the pic the logo is clearly a decal on the headstock rather than the TR cover. Sad to say I missed the last few moments of the auction......
I think the fact it was listed as a CSI bass helped keep the Rickenpolice away and the price low. I mean, even I have a "CMI Bass" saved search on ebay that this got past.

If it was Olympic White I'd definitely take it back to that colour. Looks a great project.

I'm pretty sure this body is from a Squier Affinity and you can see what the body wood is like under the finish. Quite nice quality wood for the price. My Bitsa project
I think my choice would be the cherry or the ash
Do you know of anyone in the UK who sells em?
Natural wood like maple/ash/etc... Depends on the neck your adding too though
Rosewood/Maple Sue Ryder neck. Do you mean like these: Wooden Pickguards That would actually look awesome! Especially on a bass which is going to be assembled for around £30!
I vote for black, or anything dark What body is that??
I'm not certain but have a feeling it's off a Squier Affinity bass. It's a decent slab of wood and was pleased with the grain when I took the finish off. It used to look like this: Not bad for £6.50 anyway.
Has anyone gone for this? might consider it myself
Keep your eyes on this instead: ebay number: 150636352441 A better bass which might go cheaper.

Well, due to work this went on the back burner for a few months but it's now a new nut and a bit of soldering away from being complete. Here's some pics of it finally assembled:
Black Pearl
I did consider it but would look a little "busy" to my eyes.

Hi, I'm doing a cheap bitsa project and coming to final stages of finishing. It's a kind of trans black stain. I'd intended to use a tortoise shell pickguard on it but now I'm leaning towards aged white. What do you reckon?
-
I bought mine ages ago S/H for £190 (with a hard case). Since then the new prices have crept up with every good review. I've had plenty offers off other bass players for £250 for mine. I think £199 for this is cracking value, even as an investment for the future PS: don't mod it.
