Doesn't seem that expensive compared to going active http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-VAR...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Andy

help advice on finishing a alder/fmae maple body
soopercrip replied to attackbass's topic in Build Diaries
What grade wire wool have you been using. Wants to be '0000' and be aware of going across the grain. If the maple will stand another sanding then do it, again be aware of going across the grain, wil help with colour. I used to use 2000grit wet/dry for final sanding by hand on furniture projects, A good quality random orbital sander for initial sanding and 500 or 600 grit w/d. Hire it for a day if you haven't got one. And heaps of patience! May as well get it right eh? Works for me. Andy PS Pics please Oh, and i use a foam camping matress (the half inch thick ones that give no comfort whatsoever) on my bench to protect the wood. They aren't expensive and last for 4-5 projects. -
Never heard of Michael Manring until this thread, and WOW! the man is awesome (although I think he could do with an extra hand for that hyperbass ) After a bit of research his album 'Thonk' keeps coming up (has The enormous room on it) so had a look to try and aquire it. HMV wha...? Amazon £70+ so without stealing it off the web, anybody point me in the right direction to get a copy? Cheers Andy Edit 4 spelin

They were once a support act for someone reasonably famous one night in Doncaster at a venue called Outlook I can't even remember the headline act because they totally stole the show for me. Steve 'Kid' Strange ( with a slight speech impedement) and Urban Blitz on Violin were mezmerising. Particular fav is 'Marie and Joe' Surely I'm not the only 'survivor'... Maybe a more laid back approach on stage is what's needed. These guys seemed to do ok

If it's in reasonable condition and not been bullied, sounds like a good deal to me

OOps! You wanna see me walk with my sp@zzy leg !! Now thats a deranged puppet Constantly looking for the best place to land and avoid dogsh*t when walking, ready for my next tumble!!! Yeah I wondered why the bassist was at the front instead of squashed behind the hi hats.... Edit: Why am I worried? Just realised I've got the perfect excuse! I'm old!!!!

I'm sorry but to me the bassist looks like a puppet with a couple of strings cut. Not my cuppa...
Areas of circles isn't critical when comparing one driver against another, but it is important to realise that you do need some kind of square measurement, since a speaker cone has a surface area (ie 2 dimensions, not just the 1 you've used). If you say that a 4x10 is equivalent to 10 x 10 x 4 = 400 and that a 1x15 is equivalent to 15 x 15 x 1 = 225 then you'd be on the right track. Thing is, you then need to bring in the third dimension (ie how much air the speakers move). Assuming the 10's you're using have an Xmax of 4mm (which is more than most of them have) then you're looking at a displacement of 10 x 10 x 4 x 4 = 1600 The 3015LF has an Xmax of 9.6mm, which gives you 15 x 15 x 9.6 x 1 = 2160. 3015LF wins, hands down. A
WHOOOSH!!! (looks up...) wassssaaattt!!! (only just come to terms with an indoor lavvy) Edit: Sorry guys, find this stuff interesting and want to learn, but it won't sink in! I'll persevere...

Aaron Armstrong did the pickups for my Overwater perception, I believe he does the bulk of their standard stuff, unless an alternative is specified. (But- believe it or not- I have been wrong before!!!) Andy Edit I have a Kent Armstrong mm hubucker ready to go in my self build project when I get some spare time...

soopercrip replied to SlipperySquid's topic in Bass Guitars
Oh that is just SO not fair! How much did that set you back? and to answer the topic - get a fender american j-bass - best bass I ever bought (the only bass I've ever bought - my first was given to me and I've only ever own'd 2). I tried out almost every bass in GAK before settling on the j-bass... and i play quite a bit of slap. Seriously, with new strings... oooh... i did a man wee thinking of it.... Always give an extra wipe just in case...(particularly when wearing white ones)

Think I got hit for VAT + 8% import duty when I ordered a pup and pre amp from the states for my project. Or you could try this http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalW...ment#P177_21685 but I was dribbling after 10 mins.....

Pick up and pre amp I ordered from states took six weeks and most of that was spent in UK customs, Only started moving after I gave seller a couple of pokes and he poked the customs...
