1. Thanks MM, all ordered. I also ordered the bridge and tuners from the pup guy, the gear on his ebay shop gets good feedback, so here's hoping. Prices were very keen, just waiting for shipping from Canada. Andy
2. A little help guys please, no point buying if this set up wont work effectively, Andy
3. Hey, I'm refurbing a bass off ebay (http://basschat.co.u...d-oh-dear-pics/) and the electrics need replacing. I'm working to a budget and wanted to use these pups http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 which he says is showing 8k on his ohm meter, and wire them Jazz style through vol/vol/tone. Been on the fender site and got a jazz wiring diagram and it uses 3, 250k pots with a .05uf capacitor on the tone pot. For that I was going to use one of these http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 The question is, will this work and what sort of signal could I expect, strength and quality. No info on the winding of the pups unfortunately, but the seller has good ratings for the quality of the goods he supplies. Also would taper pots be better than linear, thinking of these alpha pots medium from axesrus http://www.axesrus.c...tronicsPots.htm I'm ok with the wood stuff but electrics, weeelll i'm willing to learn. Thanks Andy
4. Hi Jeff, I didn't start till I was 46 and it took some time to 'click'. But when It does it's all worth it. I found learning the fretboard and note sequences, fret by fret, and the major scale were my best starting points once the bass felt 'comfortable' in my hands. Welcome by the way. Andy
5. Can get some nice graining in Cherry, good to work with and finish, might not sound as exotic as cocobolo or bubinga but looks good. Colour can be achieved by various means. And it's a bit lighter (weight) than some of the others Andy
6. http://www.tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/vmchk/Lacquers-and-Paint/View-all-products.html?TreeId=15 Could also try these for laquer I use them and have always been happy with the results and service. To be honest mate you could try and salvage what you've already done, but you could waste another 4 weeks and stiil get the same result. I would bite the bullet and start over. Andy
7. There are wax crayons used by carpenters to fill and repair furniture, I used some myself on a bookmatched top with good results. A friend is a cabinet maker and he lent me a set he had to match the colours of the walnut I used. Took some time softening and running into the joint and matching the grain, but the end result was worth it. Once laquer had hardened over it was fine. Be aware that the wood colour will change slightly when laquered, try and allow for that. Kits are available (briwax or Konig are a couple of makers), but for the amount you would need I would seek out an 'old school' carpenter/cabinet maker, and loan a set. Andy
8. Pics- Finally!!!
9. Well it's arrived and looks in bad shape. Scartchplate is like a colander, pups are all over and look pretty wasted, bridge and neck dont line up (note exposed earth wire, and 'g' string is almost off the neck) Headstock has just got to be reshaped, it's almost as big as the body! Neck wants re-shaping where it meets the body (screw hole is where the strap pin should be I think). Nut has been butchered, fingerboard is, well let's just say it isn't. I reckon it's fill in the gaps re-shape and paint, new hardware, pups and scratchplate. Maybe I should have just bought a kit (rolls up sleeves), off we go..... Andy Er, having a prob uploading pics, (insert numerous expletives here) wont be long.... 2nd Edit why wont the pics load??? Just keep getting an error message
10. My refurb arrived yesterday, body style is exactly the same as this ^^^^^^^^ including scratchplate, but mine has two gibson style humbuckers and a kayak paddle headstock. Was going to post some pics but had to charge battery (stands tapping foot and glaring) heres a link to the auction http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290617029253?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Did I mention it was a train wreck?? Thinking of using this guy for parts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400219227027?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Korean parts but, its close enough for me check out his shop Andy
11. Welcome Stevie, us less able have to stick together, lots of 'norms' on here Andy
12. Think it could be one of these (just picked one up on e-bay) although pickup config is different pickguard is very similar and headstock. It's a 'Woolworths' bass apparently, early 70's Andy
13. Auction doesn't work properly, says "enter 0.99p or more" and I keep putting "more" but it wont go 'kin ebay gonna just bid a coulpe of quid or something, maybe that'll work. (if I win don't bother posting, just frame it) Andy
14. Was also watching this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260869412309?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Which finishes tomorrow. A nice bookmatched solid piece of maple or sycamore and maple board, but looks like it's been chucked down three flights of stairs. Had a word with Jim Donohue about it (He's aN Ibanez Guru on old stuff, nowt on their website) and he reckons they're ok. Already over my budget, but could be nice for a project? Andy
15.
Looking at it again its almost a hybrid of a Burns Bison and an EB0
Thought about a bison myself when I saw it, but not horny enough. feeling the Gibson though, but cherry red? more I think about it less I like. Come ON pat get that van out of greendale... Andy

18. Hi Bert Been to Haugesund about 6 times, and love the country and people, although the economy is not for the faint hearted as you say. Tried to find your location on orange maps and apparently you are in the middle of the north sea? Maybe a spot of Kayaking when you posted You're a lucky guy living there Welcome Andy
19. I can't find any info on them anywhere, all google comes up with is a bass player called Sakai and a P bass copy on a forum. Anyone know anything about them? Maybe it's another plywood copy but it doesn't look like it is. Guess I'll have to wait and see what I get. Andy
20. Evening all. Just won this http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1438.l2649 and I'm looking to refurb and reinstate it, or if it's too bad condition than maybe a makeover (feeling some Gibson cherry red with the pickup style). Dunno what do you guys think? Postage is a bit long winded, but there's no rush Andy
