1. Looks like one I used to own in the nineties... very cool. GLWTS.
2. As a seller, I ask the buyer to leave me feedback in my advert, so that I know their item has arrived safely, and so that I can go ahead and leave them feedback in return. If they don't leave me feedback as a seller, they don't get feedback as a buyer. I've never gotten a negative in 10 years of selling, but I've lost goods in the post, been straight up ripped off and occasionally gotten some narky comments with low stars. I put it down to buyers remorse or people just coming home from work in a bad mood. I know I describe everything accurately and honestly as I can and always post next working day. As a buyer, I found it quite impersonal when it becare de rigueur to receive automated glowing feedback the immediate moment a purchase is made. How do they know I'm a valued customer? Our transaction isn't complete until I've received the goods in a timely fashion and I'm happy they are as described. I might yet turn out to be a bit of a nightmare customer.
3. Kind words Grae. Thank you. Hope you're keeping well.
4. I spent the turn of the century mainly working for Stage Electrics as a freelancer. Rock n roll, festivals, theatres, conferences but I had to give it up. I built up a serious dislike for diva musicians that was affecting my preferred happy state of mind. Now, I won't offer an opinion amongst friends, even when pressed. Every musician gets the sound engineer they deserve.
5. I use a Roland 30W Cube for home practice,(cost me £50 on ebay, nearest first, collection only, and was practically new, still had the shop price £129 sticker on it), but would be looking for something 2nd hand, Laney or Peavey 300W if I needed a cheap gig-able first rig. Ashdown can be found providing 2nd hand bang for buck too. Like the Trace Elliot gear mentioned above, weight will be the trade off. I once had an Ashdown 4x10 300w combo that nearly killed me getting it up the stairs to my flat.
6. NME is a teenage thing. I used to read it when I was a teen in the early nineties, but got bored with the build 'em up, knock 'em down, next big thing, next next big thing, next next next big thing, etc. Recently, having been mixing with older teens as the token old fart mature student on my uni course, I noticed a few of them read it, but a few others slag it off like I just have. Like Smash Hits that trys to be a bit more edgy, but ultimately as disposable as the flavour of the month act it will briefly champion before looking for something cooler. Good luck to them though, it is what it is and I hope it doesn't go under.
7. I've been doing a bit of research into portable computing since the turn of the year and I'm holding out for a MS Surface Pro 4 to do some CAD/Photoshop with a stylus on my uni course, but am resigned to the fact it might never happen, or at a realistic price for me. As someone mentioned above, chosing a lappy with a solid state drive will provide the most dramatic improvement in performance for the money. Personally, I'd look for a 1920 x 1080, 15.6" full high definition screen (FHD), as opposed to HD+ or just HD which isn't good enough for modern movies. RAM might be something you could upgrade easily yourself at a later & cheaper date. Apparently, the new direct X coming with the new windows OS is going to favour big towards multiple core processors, more so than any previous incarnation, so you might not be wanting to do anything too graphically taxing ATM, but it's something to consider if you want your new lappy to keep pace with newer software for longer. Happy hunting
8. Quilted maple makes my toes curl. Reminds me of baby food after it's been abruptly regurgitated by the baby.
9.
10. That's easily the cheapest american standard Fender I've seen in over six years I've been on this forum. I can't compete.
11.
Lovely bass, if it was lighter I'd have had it.
Thank you. If I wasn't so poor, I wouldn't sell it.
12. Thats £650 posted within the UK, wearing older Wizard 84 pups and the original pups included.
13. Not being a Kanye fan and only having heard a handful of his songs on the radio, I've watched with an open mind and can honestly say I think he's very talented. I'm enjoying it.
14. Reluctantly I'm putting up for sale my MIA Jazz. It dates from 2006/7 and I'm the second owner, having bought it in 2010. It came to me with factory round wounds that still had a lot of life in them so I surmise it was rather unloved before I bought it. And loved it I have. I treated it to Wizard '84 pickups, (Andy Wizard old ones, the originals will be included in the sale), and KGB Guitars made an excellent job of setting it up wearing Labella 'Jameson' heavy flats. The action is low and smooth right across the board and it is very easy to play. It has the S1 switching system which is a useful addition to all the things a Jazz bass should normally do. Cosmetically, I'd give it 9/10. I play most days and it's gigged a few times but mostly it's been babied. Played but well cared for. The body has no scratches or dings. The neck has two small marks maybe 3-5mm in length that are barely perceptible and you'd have to hunt to find them. Discontinued Shoreline Gold is not like a sparkling gold, more like metallic beige, very understated. I don't own a pair of scales but I've owned 70's boat anchors and light basswood P & J's and this is neither. It's in the middle, best guess would be around the 10lb average. It comes with Fender strap, Schaller strap locks, (originals included), in its original hard case. The hard case is the worst thing about it. It has warped and is dinged and was basically just a terrible design but it will keep it safe during transit in the UK only. I would like £650 for it delivered within the UK. No overseas sales please. Payment by bank transfer. Inspection and cash on collection is more than welcome and preferable, but you have to come to me in Plymouth because I don't drive. Reluctant sale as I said. I’m a mature student with no summer income and bills to pay so no offers please and no trades. The best Jazz I have ever owned and I’ll be very sorry to see it go. I have all positive feedback. All sensible enquiries answered. Thanks for looking. 15. Recently sold frannie a compressor pedal and was impressed by this forumites straightforward conduct. I'm starting this thread to give him my glowing endorsement and I'm sure it'll be the first of many. Hope to deal with you again.
16. I like it too, but don't need another Jazz. If you put the word Jazz in your thread heading, it would appear if somebody does a search of the forum. Might help, or might not. GLWTS.
17.
Looks like a a Guild Pilot to me
I think we have a winner. Mills seems to have previous for playing a Guild Pilot. Mystery solved. Thank you.
18. I was watching Sounds Of The 80's on the iplayer the other day when a rather youthful REM appeared on a clip garnered from the Old Grey Whistle Test. The song in question, Pretty Persuasion, left me cold, as did most of the performance apart from the last few bars when Stipe seemed to wake up, but what peaked my interest was the bass being played by Mike Mills. I've attached a couple of blurry stills and will attempt to add the youtube vid, (footage starts at 0;25). Please, put me out of my misery and name that bass. Thanks for playing. 19. Sold. Thanks to all who expressed an interest.
