Locked Out Of Heaven is just a tremendous piece of pop songwriting. Apparently he pushed for it to be released as a single against the wishes of his co-producers. I think he's a really talented guy with his head screwed on too. Just started playing it with the function band too, getting its first live outing tomorrow, hoping it fills the floor!

I've ordered one of the board that Gazm linked to in his reply above. I figured at under a tenner it was worth a punt. It's coming from the USA so I'll be surprised if I see it within the next fortnight but when I do I'll report back. It's only got to power my wireless receiver which doesn't pull a particularly hefty current, hopefully it'll do the trick and that wall wart will vanish - maybe even making space for another pedal!

[/quote] Since both are doing essentially the same job, it might simplify things for you to bypass one and concentrate on the other, at least for now. You'll end up with your head spinning trying to work out where the two relate to each other but ideally if your crossover is set correctly, your amp won't need to filter anything as it won't be receiving any signal outside the frequency range you've specified with the crossover. Depending on the features available on your crossover, there might be benefits to running the filters on your amp too, but if you break things down step by step it'll be easier for you to both hear and understand the effect of any changes you make.

Haha, funny you should say that, this is for my guitar board! I did have a tidily wired up but stupidly oversized board. I've downsized but they've just been loose on the floor while I've been working out what I do and don't need. Got it down to a bare minimum (tuner, overdrive, two delays, reverb and amp footswitch) so its finally going on back on a board, albeit a much smaller one. I've just gone from head/cab to a combo and fixed my broken wireless too, so once I sort these 12v shenanigans it won't even be a 2 min job to get set up!

I'm also responsible for the PA in our function band, so I'm on a mission to get my personal gear setup as simplified and fast as possible!

Yeah, that might just be the thing. I looked on eBay but forgot I'd got my phone app set to UK only! Gigrig sell something that does this but its £60 and more than likely just a board like this in a little plastic enclosure. I knew there'd be a more sensibly priced option around!

Hi guys, I've just rebuilt my board with a space to slot in my wireless receiver which asks for 11-18v. I'm currently powering it with its own 12v adapter. The rest of my board is quite happily taken care of by my Johnny Shredfreak supply (same as a Diago Powerstation) and its got capacity to spare as I'm down to 5 pedals now. I'd love to get back to only needing one mains socket, can anyone recommend anything that will bump my 9v daisy chain supply up to run the wireless? I'd rather not change my whole PSU as its perfectly capable in all other respects and is also very compact. Cheers, Mike

Ah, now that's why I keep cocking up solos on my LP Jono, although you're not a huge fan of the Fender styling, can I suggest having a gander at the '72 Tele Deluxe re-issues. I picked one up used last year and can't get enough of it. It's extremely playable and has a good natural tone. I'm yet to apply any of the commonly suggested mods (changing the stock 250k pots for 500k or 1M for some extra brightness seems to be a favourite) as I've been more than happy with how the guitar sounds as is. I also own a stunning Edwards Les Paul copy which I love (and sounds great) but the Tele is just so playable that I still gravitate towards it, despite the Edwards being the superior instrument on paper. I've been indulging myself lately and playing a set on each when I go out with the function band!

I'd agree with Phil. Just because your tops can't reproduce any audible bass below a certain frequency, doesn't mean the drivers aren't straining to try and do it! Most decent manufacturers provide a frequency response graph for their cabs, I've just been looking at the ones for our newly acquired EV subs and tops. The subs start to steeply roll off above 100Hz and the tops are pretty happy to around the same point so that seems like a good starting point to work from for our system. Take a look at the specs for your cabs and see if there's any pointers to be gleaned from that. What you don't want to end up with is a hole in the middle where neither your subs or tops are providing adequate reproduction. Taking the low bass out of your tops can only be good for the long term health of your PA though!

The guy said its just a wishlist. Sounds totally reasonable to me and the ideal is to find three or four other career-minded musos who see things the same way. I quit my day job this year to work full time in music and this (apart from the exclusivity and the childcare, because a man's gotta make a living and the kids won't mind themselves) sounds exactly like the kind of committed regular setup I could do with getting into. Mackie CR1604VLZ has 16 proper mic channels and 6 aux sends (although each channel can only access four of them at any one time). From factory these came with two switchable pre/post fader and the rest fixed at post (so no good for monitors) but they can be modified to pre-fade if you're confident with a soldering iron. It's an official mod documented by Mackie too, not a poke'n'hope job!

The Line 6 M-series are aimed at both (apparently the product manager is a bassist) and have some bass-specific effects models as well as many that will suit fat or skinny strings. If you have a look around here and other forums there's plenty of threads discussing their use on bass and some good suggestions of which patches work well. I gig on guitar and bass and I'm looking at picking up an M9 as a quick grab'n'go for when I don't want to take my big guitar board out, and to cover the occasional requirement I'm having for bass effects now. Although there's some great bass-specific options, I wouldn't write the M stuff off just because it caters to both.

Proper Stingrays are wonderful basses. The discontinued USA made SUB models are great though and can occasionally be had for a steal second hand. I tried one out shortly after I first bought my Musicman and was a little shocked at how close it came!

I'm going to hear it, although not until I've driven a couple of hours. It's not local which is I why I was keen for feedback online first. There's four subs and some seriously chunky power amps involved so it should certainly have the grunt for putting kit through it. Part of the appeal to me is that its a lot of cabs - I can scale the system up or down to suit the room as we won't always need to mic everything. I'm off to see it/pick it up next weekend anyway so I'll let you know soon enough!

Own a giant van - I'm band taxi but I get a bigger cut to contribute towards running costs.

If I bother to plug in at all, I'll usually use my monitors on my little recording set up. I've got a little Behringer mixer I use to control the speakers so I'll go straight into that, or use my BDI-21 as a preamp if its nearby.

There's been a few of these in recent years - Weezer were the first band I noticed doing one, although I don't know if they were the first to try it. They played shows in the auditorium, random acoustic performances on deck and took a bunch of other bands (Dinosaur Jr!!!) out with them too. I've never fancied a cruise holiday but could be swayed by something like that!

One old band worked our way through a compilation album of TV themes. The A-Team was good, but a personal highlight was coming on to the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air theme and the singer spontaneously leading a crowd singalong before launching straight into our loudest, fastest tune.

Looks lovely mate, I might have to pinch that colour for a Les Paul Jr guitar project I've got on the to-do list! I'm a (recently escaped) ex-BT man too, my Dad is still there!

I'd be surprised if you or I could hear a difference. If its just an extension cab though, surely just grabbing a little 1m one would be ideal?

Yeah, all the rack distributors I've owned/used have been female outlets, for the extremely sensible reasons described above. I'd go double check!
