1. This is a ridculous price for a 'ray - why are you crazy people not buying it?? Have a bump on me - if I wasn't too broke and already snowed under with basses, I'd be off to the bank asking favours. In fact, if this had a maple neck, I think I'd throw caution to the wind and sell a vital organ or two for it.
2. I've got it massively high on my 'ray - had it set up that way a few years back as I really liked to dig in. Find that with my new band I'm playing more technical stuff and I'm occasionally having to down the Stingray for something a bit more playable, as the fast/tricky stuff just doesn't sound good at all when I'm fighting the action. The Sandberg came with a really low action and plays like butter, but never gave me the problems with clicking and buzzing that the Stingray did, so it stayed that way. I do like it high, but if it works the way it is, then why change it!
3. Always a hard case - I'm pretty much always in the van when gigging and I'd just rather not leave anything to chance. It's simple really, the little bit of extra weight and awkwardness is worth the piece of mind that nothing is going to snap my bass in half! Occasionally use a gig bag if I'm on public transport, and the bitsa basses both live in gig bags (because I'm running out of space for hardcases) but I'd always pick the safe option.
4. No worries mate, cheers for letting me know, good luck with the sale
5. Hey dude, you replacing this with a smaller/lighter head? I'm after replacing my SVT3 and Shuttle 6 with a CL! Thread with the info is here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=139790 Let me know if you fancy it
6. Any interest in trades for something smaller? I'm after replacing my SVT3 and Shuttle 6 with one of these beasts! Thread with the info is here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=139790 Let me know if it takes your fancy
7. Bumpasaurus Rex - anybody want to ditch their big heavy amp to go lightweight, and get a great backup as part of the deal?
8. Have a bump while I go put my kidney on eBay.
9. +1 for electrical tape - I used to use that to keep my transmitter on the strap, a few winds round gave a solid grip, but was easy to take off and didn't leave too much gunk behind. Also managed to do it so that you could still open the battery compartement without undoing the tape. Cheap and cheerful, works a treat
10. Hey folks, Looking to trade in my two lovely amps for an SVT-CL or SVT-AV! Exhibit A is a pretty much mint Genz Benz Shuttle 6, with gig bag. Bought this from its original owner about two years ago, it's been lightly gigged, mostly lived in our rehearsal room. Exhibit B an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro - USA-made and owned from new since Jan 2006. It has two small scuffs on the front panel, received from the clips on the front lid of a Gator rack case on the very first day I owned the amp (Doh!) but is in good nick aside from that. Lives in a 3U flightcase these days, which would be included in any deal. If anybody is interested in taking these two heads in trade for an Ampeg SVT-CL or AV, I'd be happy to make a straight swap. Failing that, if anybody is after a trade+cash for one head, I will try and find a buyer for t'other one to facilitate a deal. I'm in Liverpool but will travel (within reason) in my big-ass van to come do the swap. Alternatively, you can visit me and try the amps out in my rehearsal room. Will throw some pics up if anyone is interested - just let me know! Cheers, Mike

Sold

Heard nothing but good things about Edwards stuff in general - have had my eye on some of their 6ers for a long time. Have a free bump on me for a beautiful bit of kit, good luck with the sale!
12. I haven't voted because I think (like most of us) multiple answers apply for me! I know how much I'd like to have to spend on a bass! I could probably tick the first three boxes in each of the other questions - when I've offered trades it's largely been gear that I'm not using at present so I've fancied trying something different. I am doing a lot of skint window shopping at the moment - here and elsewhere. Missed a bargain Peavey Classic 30 for my guitar on e**y last week because the head gasket has blown on my van I think we're all feeling the pinch, but the BC For Sale forum is my first port of call for any bass shopping I have to do.
13. Had a brainwave whilst on the throne this morning (where all man's greatest achievements of thought are born) that may solve this problem, although I want to run it past you better minds first! If the amp is looking for a 4 ohm load, rather than hacking away at the cab, would chaining an 8 ohm dummy load off in place of a second cab satisfy it? That way, the bassist in question gets to keep his cab all original, amp sees a matched load - everybody wins! If there's a staggeringly obvious technical reason why this wouldn't work, please let me know
14. Happy Shuttle 6 owner here - bought second hand a couple of years ago, gigged and rehearsed with weekly since and the only prob I've had is the pre-amp valve packing in, but no serious issues with the amp itself.
15. I spent my second year of high school playing the drums (terribly) and then guitar (horrendously) before a mates dad spotted the gap in our line up and - probably as I was the least capable guitarist - lent me his bass. It was the first instrument I really got my head round, and the only one I've played long-term in a band. I've since come back to guitar, as I write a lot of the stuff for my current band and have just started a stint playing lead guitar in a covers band (most nervous I've been on stage in a long time - totally out of my comfort zone!) and also got a much better grasp of the drums, but bass just feels like home. I can tell I'm a bass player because I've always felt totally happy getting another guitarist to play my songs/parts, but having somebody else play bass for me woud just feel wrong!!
16. It's not for me, it's a band I'm working for - if it was my dollar getting spent I'd buy an SVT610 - like I already have I'm going to look into replacing the speakers, as replacing the cab and it's flightcase is a big dollar purchase compared to the cost of new drivers. Any feedback on the suitability of the Eminence BP102-4 or alternatives would be more than welcome! EDIT: Alex/all you other experts - Eminence quote .38 Qt's, is that the right end of the spectrum for sealed cab use? Cheers, Mike
17.
I believe they're the same 32 ohm drivers used in the SVT810. You may struggle to find a 4 or 16 ohm 10" which suits a sealed cab. Look for high Qts.
Hi Alex, That's what I thought they might be, but was hoping I'd be wrong! Would the Eminence BP102 drivers that Lozz suggested be suitable, or am I better off suggesting he changes his cab setup? Am I overstating the damage the 8 ohm cab will do to the 4 ohm SVT2, or is it a likely contributor to his reliability issues? Cheers for your ace advice (as always!) Mike
18. Alright guys, A band I've just started teching for are having some reliability issues with the bass rig. It's an SVT2-Pro and a 410HE. The valves have recently been changed by a previous tech, but looks like the bias hasn't been set properly. Had some problems with the amp intermittently cutting out. I've pointed out that they're running an 8ohm cab off a 2/4ohm valve head, which is going to cause some upset. What I was wondering is if anybody knows the impedance of the indivdual drivers in the SVT410HE as I haven't had the chance to get the back off yet. If they're 8 ohms I can rewire to 2 and match it properly to the amp - if they're 32 then it's off to the shops! If any of our wiser members want to chip in with suggestions, feel free! Cheers, Mike
19. Haven't used the SD to compare, but I'll always throw in a good word for Wizard. Have a Thumper and an 84 in a Squier PJ and they transformed the bass from an old beater that was kept for sentimental reasons, to a bass that I'm happy to use on stage alongside my 'proper' ones. The quality of the service from Andy swings it for me - you can't ring up Seymour and tell him just how you'd like your bass to sound, and get a pick-up hand wound from him that does it for you!
20. Yeah, the Cavern is a bit out of the loop of the unsigned original band scene - it's main focus is the cover band circuit these days. The in house backline has been replaced (fairly recently I think) with the stuff risingson mentioned above (they used to have an Ashdown stack that I never got on with). The back room is a nice big stage and the sound is usually pretty good in there, so it's not a bad gig to play in that sense. If you can shift the tickets then go for it and have a boss one!!
21. Had to post because I'm bubbling over with excitement. I left my band of two years before Christmas under a bit of a cloud - disappointed with a lack of action and an excess of attitude - and ended up out of touch with a bunch of guys that I'd worked with for a long time (5+ years!). After never having had the confidence to do it in all my years of playing, I went off and started my own band with the noisy rock tunes I'd been writing and got lucky enough to have my first choice musicians get involved. After 12 years in bands always playing someone else's tunes, it's so exciting to be doing something so personal. We've booked our debut gig today and I'm literally buzzing with excitement, I can feel my heart pounding. Guess I just wanted to throw something up here since there's often so many posts about people being disheartened with bands/music/bass playing and it's a shame to see good players (and good people) be let down doing what they love. We all love playing here on BC, I think we should all just go for it head on and make what we can of it. I can't wait!!! </overexcitedfeelgoodpost>
22. Welcome to BC mate, nice to see another local here! This place is ace, full of top people
23. I thought the 5 play limit was per month, not for all eternity - that'd be a bit much!
24. Did a year or two of really shabby guitar playing before converting when I was about 14. Eventually learned to play guitar to a decent standard too, have done the odd gig here and there on guitar (mostly acoustic stuff) but do use it writing songs for my band. +1 to Noel about the drums - playing drums, or at least understanding them better than I used to, has made me a much better player, and improved my arrangements too.
25. If my other half saw this, she'd have me halfway down the M6 in the van by now! We're down to 3 cats, a giant Japanese Akita, and George the bearded dragon will be joining us next week. I'm this close to blocking the IP addresses of all the pet rescue websites because our little house/zoo won't hold many more! Good luck with the rehoming, good that CP have found space for so many!
