Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
Jack replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Ground loop? Wouldn't explain the lack of output though. -
I mix our gigs with a tablet. A tablet that uses 5.8. There's some truth to that. There are more non-overlapping channels in the space, meaning that it should be easier to carve out 'your' space in the range. However, support for simultaneous devices is again one of those things that's great for wifi generally but of no use to us in this application. A wireless guitar kit might have two transmitters at the very most. I think the record for my mixer was 4, one tablet/phone per band member on IEMs. It's not that one doesn't have to think about this stuff, it's just that it's more complicated than "four legs good, two legs bad" that is spoken in these parts a lot. FWIW I have a few strategies that have always helped. Firstly, have a backup. When I play the kind of venue that's likely to be problematic from a wifi point of view I will always take my laptop. Hotel ballrooms, that kind of place. The laptop can be plugged into the router with an ethernet cable and I can mix a show either way. Fortunately, and not coincidentally, the kinds of places that have problematic wifi environments also tend to be the higher paying gigs. Continuity is more important and the justification for lugging backup stuff is easier. In the same way I always take a cable to use if my bass wireless fails. I have used this twice. Once was in a venue where my Line 6 G55 just would not work for some reason and once was when, 2 minutes before downbeat, I could not turn my wireless on. I used a cable and at the set break realised that the power cable had been knocked loose, if not entirely out. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, I use a nice router. My mixer rack has a Mikrotik hap ac2 that has about 5-10 times the broadcast power of a typical home router like you get for free from your ISP. If I have to enter a wifi arms race I will win. Scan with my phone, pick the least busy channel and set the router to that. Not that it matters, it's always 7 anyway. Once that has been turned on then the instrument wireless systems will work around that.

It's the TS range that I have gigging experience with. 2 1x15" tops and two 1x18" subs. I briefly owned a pair of the TX110 cabs but they never saw gigging action.

The first iphone with 5GHz wifi was released in 2012, there's plenty of interference up there as well these days. Your 2.4 and 5.8 systems, were they the same apart from the wifi bands or was one just objectively better than the other? I for one have never had a single dropout with either of my Shure GLXD systems, they continue to perform literally without fault despite being 2.4GHz only. Whether it's wireless guitar systems or networking using digital mixers there's a groupthink on this board that 5.8 is great and 2.4 is bad. It's just not the case. EDIT - any more. The main reason to invent more modern wifi was greater speed, something entirely irrelevant for either application that bassists care about.

Ian is American isn't he?
-
Yes. It would be best to remove the low end from the tops somehow, especially as they are on the budget end.
-
Better range and less liable to fall out if the line of sight is blocked.
-
I doubt that the thru output will be processed, it'll just be straight. I've used Alto stuff, it's good budget gear. What are the tops?
-
They've mentioned before that they get stick for not mentioning Warwick as well. I guess they mention what they want and what they like, it's probably not a diss.
-
Sorry for the derail: is that the series 2? Am I right in thinking that the gain control is cut only? Or can you boost the volume level as well?
-
I've got QSC, been in bands with RCF and Alto, used Yamaha at my last school. Two decent 12s or (even 10s) with a 15" or an 18" sub is the sweet spot ime.

Sorry but as a watch nerd I'd like to point out that the Timex will keep much better time.

You'd think this was a plumbing forum.

Thanks both. I like the Status rounds on more aggressive basses, just making sure. And I deleted some attachments to show this.

Did I?

Separate preamp/power amp question. I want more volume...

Ok, that's pretty much as I understood it then, they are linked but there's a limit. -

Ok, I'll take one for the team. I would assume that those specs are somewhat linked, with the amount of gain on tap allowing you essentially a better chance of reaching the required output level. Obviously, this depends on the input. Can you elaborate a little more please? -
Are we allowed questions in here or just for showing? If it's allowed then I have a '91 thumb with the brass frets. Will stainless steel rounds 'hurt' it? Conflicting statements online about whether brass frets are longer lasting or not vs others. Thanks! I have tried to post an image, but it seems nothing quite sneaks under the upload limit and the imgur link won't do anything. Downer.

The cheapest way to get a really beefy signal are the Behringer (mic100) or Rolls (mp13) units. -
I sold my Spector Euro to shemeckfrac in March 2025. Quick payment, smooth communication, excellent all around.

Having a small clearout on the basis that I'm a massive hoarder. All of the below excludes postage, so you are encouraged to pick up from my house (between Newcastle and Wylam) or from my office (central Newcastle) ideally. However I can be really reasonable with postage, especially if combining, so please get in touch. I can also deliver if you're quite local. I think I have priced everything on the low end of sensible using BC and ebay previous prices, but do feel free to make offers if you think I've got it wrong. It's safe to assume that everything below is in perfectly working condition, and unless otherwise noted everything is in good physical/cosmetic condition too. I have pedals and accessories for sale also. Photos can be found here. Rode NTG2 - £90 Link. Excellent shotgun mic. We use these at work (where I do training videos, so voiceover work and talking head stuff mostly) and they are great for that. So I bought one for myself. But at home I don't really do anything that needs a shotgun mic. So now I'm selling it. Monacor Optogate PB-05e x2 - £75 each Link. Using optogates live, especially for backing vocalists, was pretty much the smartest thing I ever did. If you don't know what they are, they are an infrared sensor and mic switch. When you walk up to the microphone (you can set the distance) the mic turns on instantly. When you walk away the mic gets muted. It's like a physical noise gate. No fussing with input levels and release times or anything. I have mostly moved over to the metal ones, so selling my remaining two plastic ones. Requires phantom power to switch but not to pass signal, so if you forget phantom power or it breaks then the mic fails safe and is just switched on all the time. Klark Teknik CT1 Preamp - £15 Link. Apply phantom power, things get loud. Specifically they get 25dB louder. Great for weak mics like the SM7B or anything else with low output. Koenig and Meyer Microphone Stand Weight - £10 Link. (I probably can't post this for anything near the price difference between this an a new one, so collection only I'm afraid) I appreciate it looks like a testicle stretcher. But it's actually to counterbalance heavy microphones and the like. It's a 21105-000-55 if you want it's Sunday name. Millennium PP2B Phantom Power Supply - £15 Link. Uses batteries or included psu to power up to two phantom powered devices. Millennium SP31 XLR Splitter - £15 Link. Mic/Line/DI splitter, anything with an XLR really! One input and three outputs. Passes phantom power if needed.

If you fancy any actual effects pedals then check out my other for sale thread. Photos can be found here. Shure GLXD16 x2 - £300 each. I've had one of these on each board for years, but I no longer use the boards and so the wirelesses are going too. In excellent condition bearing in mind they've been stood on. On things to note are the velcro, the slightly loose cable cover on one transmitter (common on these, surprised it hasn't happened on both) and some slight wear on the transmitter belt clips. Pedaltrain Nano x2 - £40 good condition, £30 well used. Used but fully functional. There's a dent in one of them and they have lived on the floor a lot but they're solid. Come with softcase. Cioks Adam - £60 Excellent power supply. Will come with a suite of cioks leads as well as the IEC cable. Cioks Grip - £10 Can be used to help mount Cioks power supplies.

Hi all. Like most of us, I have a lot of bass gear. I recently filled in for a mate's heavy rock band (Stingray and Spector, distortion, loud) for a few gigs and also started playing out with my acoustic lounge trio (fretless EB and EUB, clean, very quiet) more and I realised that for both very different gigs I just went for my Quad Cortex. I only really used my HX Stomp in my previous band because the patches were already built and the board was already put together. Anyway, this is turning into an online recipe and you don't need this much backstory but the point is that I realised that I have gear that I use and gear that I don't, and the gear that I don't is going. All of the below excludes postage, so you are encouraged to pick up from my house (between Newcastle and Wylam) or from my office (central Newcastle) ideally. However I can be really reasonable with postage, especially if combining, so please get in touch. I can also deliver if you're quite local. It's safe to assume that everything below is in perfectly working condition, and unless otherwise noted everything is in good physical/cosmetic condition too. Pedals have velcro underneath. Accessories (such as the power supplies and boards, as well as DIs etc) can be found in my other for sale threads. Photos can be found here. MXR M80 Preamp - £110 I've had this since new and it was my first pedal preamp. In fact I believe that it was pretty much the second (at least mass-market) pedal preamp after the Sansamp. Modern, clean tone with huge low end and also a second distortion channel. Temporarily removed from sale, let me know if you're interested and I can add you to the queue or this will be back up in a few days. Sansamp Paradriver DI v2 - £150 My favorite pedal preamp and for a long time this was the mainstay of my analogue rig. Fantastic on bass, just as good on other things. Like a BDDI but less of an inherent mid scoop and more punch. Comes with the box and manual. Temporarily removed from sale, let me know if you're interested and I can add you to the queue or this will be back up in a few days. Line 6 HX Stomp - £420 And the mainstay of my digital rig for a long time! Not sure what to say about this to be honest, it's become the standard modeller for bassists for a reason. Optional extra foot switch below. Brightonion Mini DMFS - £25 I bought this as custom order (1 of 3 that I have done, I do love James' stuff...) before he made specific HX Stomp footswitches. TRS, dual momentary, works with a variety of effects but ideal for HX Stomp. Brightonion Pedalboard Controller - £65 A memory of my 'big pedalboard' days. This was another custom order and is a variation on the 'AB pedal with loop, buffer and tuner'. The customisations that I asked for were to have the buffer always on and to make both outputs switchable rather than always on. So this is now a one stop I/O option for a pedalboard. Signal flow is Input A/B switchable > buffer > switchable loop > output A/B on separate switches. My use case was to switch between wireless and wired basses on the input, have all my pedals in the loop that I could on/off all at once, and to have the outputs go to an always on tuner and my amp, with the ability to mute the amp output. Other uses are of course manifold. Buzz Electronics Double Patch Pedal - £15 Inputs and outputs for your board. Keeps cables tidy, reduces strain on expensive pedals, that kind of thing. Link. Behringer BDI21 - £15 Sansamp clone. Sounds the same but made from plastic. TC Electronic MojoMojo (boxed) - £30 Excellent low-gain and transparent overdrive. SOLD Harley Benton CPT-20 (boxed) - £10 SOLD Mini pedal tuner. To be honest, it's an excellent mini pedal tuner. Behringer TU300 - £15 Normal sized pedal tuner!
