  1. Its still possible to get airhead cabs if that's your thing. I know at least Greenboy and BFM have accounted for airheads in some of their designs. Low Down Sound used to as well.
  2. My favourite is the mojomojo.
  3. That's fair enough but I know that for me (and I imagine for a lot of others too) being in a band and having some sort of end goal gives focus and meaning to a practice. It's almost like having an 'excuse' to play bass as it were. I haven't played video games in over 10 years. They're not as fun as they used to be, I can't be bothered to keep buying the hardware, they're too expensive, yada yada yada. Because I haven't been able to see my 2 brothers in ages we decided to set up a weekly gaming night, upgrade our pcs where necessary (hah! bad time for that!) and get playing. Suddenly I'm finding that video games are fun again when the real truth is that the games aren't any different, it's my approach, motivation, reason for playing and social interaction that have changed. Wednesday nights aren't really about playing video games, I could have started playing at any point and I just didn't want to. Wednesday nights are about me and my brothers talking on discord, all the video games do is give us something to talk about. I guess it's the same as bass. You've said that you essentially play bass to 'zone out' and relax, great. I play bass to get up off my backside and do something creative rather than just zoning out.
  4. Always remember that Justin Bieber has sold more records than the entire population of Basschat combined. Ain't no accounting for taste!
  5. It's always a risk covering a real classic like that and yes it was never going to be the original but I think it's fine. The recorded version is plenty good enough (it was record of the week on radio 2!), but I still have memories of 100,000 people singing it in the rain at Download so I suppose that does bias me towards liking it.
  6. Whoah, whoah, what's so wrong with this?
  7. I'm another one who has almost completely stopped since March. I've gotten a massive promotion at work (I mean, yay, but for the first time ever I actually have a proper job and I'm coming in tired), we've got a new cat and there's a general malaise hanging over the world. I tried playing a little last week and I was even more rubbish than usual. Thanks BC, I thought I'd be the only one.
  8. I mean, assuming for a second that you were already predisposed to making that cab, that would be a decently sensible (less ridiculous) way to do it.
  9. Chrome Red! I have a twin from the same year. Mine's not as shiny though...
  10. And people say that rock n roll is dead.
  11. Preaching to the choir, my friend. I've been a 'pa for bass' convert since my Dr. Bass 2460. Getting closer every time! I just need a lot of stage volume about 10 times a year and can't think of the best way to do it. The appeal of the bc cab or 2 is that they will approximate what I'm used to but the truth is that they would be overkill. I'm still going to have my helix going to the pa and I'm still going to have good monitoring. The whump can come from anything. Anyone selling 2 Peavey 4x10s? I know it was a thread-wide question but still: hells yeah I'll build a small cab for £100! What do we do?
  12. I had a 1001ii with a 2*12 and 1*12. Yes, that had can definitely damage those speakers if you're not careful. It can probably damage most speakers if you're not careful.
  13. My main sound in the indie rock band is based around a modelled Aguilar 751 with no cab, sounds great.
  14. In news not related to Brexit, I'm considering selling my Defender. 1. Can I charge more now? It was made in Britain! 2. What foreign car should I get to replace it?
  15. Trust me, I spent 6 years as an adult teacher, mostly in citizenship. People do not have the faintest idea how this will impact their daily life. "I can't wait to leave Europe so that we don't have to accept any more Syrian refugees, ever since Syria joined the EU there's been millions of them." Genuine quote from a middle-aged man on one of my courses last year. He was a business manager for a posh supermarket. Drove an Audi.
  16. I think the speakers are good up to 5kHz, so it's not really a sub at all. A lot of people would probably not need the horn driver at all. Did you enjoy the build and are you happy with the cab?
  17. I keep thinking about it and joining in these threads but haven't bitten the bullet yet. There are times when I miss my 2x FR800 stack, although obviously not recently! The problem is that over non-covid summers I play a lot of outdoor/marquee biker rallies, scooter meets and mini festivals. For those gigs my little QSC won't be enough. I dunno man, the parts for 2 of the cabs is almost £600, which nets you a used Barefaced 2x12" or similar from the classifieds here. But where's the fun in that? But then what about the resale value on diy cabs vs 100% return on a used premium cab? But what else can I do over lockdown if not build cabs? But what's the point if gigs never start again and I never use them? But, but but.
  18. You're a pal, thanks.
  19. Can somebody please point me to the parts lists and/or plans? I'm lost between the different threads and versions of the cabs. Thanks!
  20. They moved from using off the shelf (although very high end) PA drivers to their custom-designed drivers. I didn't really notice too much in terms of sound or output to be honest.
  21. I haven't played any of the new new stuff, but I have had 5 Barefaced cabs so I'll give it a go. The 10" models aim for a much more old school sound. The 10" speaker doesn't have a great deal of high highs or really low lows. They're still quite clean by olde worlde standards actually and they're not really 'vintage sounding' as such but they are in the ballpark. Ever cab apart from the 1x10" uses a low pass filter on one side of the speaker cabinet in an effort to combat some comb filtering issues with side by side drivers. As for the 12s, they're all a bit more modern sounding than the 10s. Very 'new', clean and punchy. If anything they kind of lack a little character, with the HF models getting pretty close (apparently) to being quite flat. The new 12s are my absolute favorite bass cabs. An FR800 (which is essentially a self-powered Big Baby II) covered any gig I ever asked it to do. The Midget aims to be as small as possible whilst still being giggable, so it's a little more mid-focused than the rest and somewhat barky. As for the others, it's a case of: do you want one speaker or two? And then do you want the (very nice, pa style) HF driver or not?
  22. From 100mW to 1200W!
  23. I find their videos quite entertaining. The style is very 'of it's time' and not really my thing but they certainly wouldn't be where they are as a shop without their social media presence. Mrs. Jack is the social media coordinator for a very large museum and I find it a fascinating world, just not for me! Factually they always leave a lot to be desired, doing homework on the products before hand would be nice but then I think the counterpoint to that is that most people probably don't care, wouldn't understand, and that specs are easy enough to find if you really want. Apart from Barefaced. And when you DO find manufacturer's specs they're often lies anyway. Whatever, it's nice to see Lee back. All about the bass wasn't the same without him.
  24. Oh good, I thought I was the only one. Everybody else on BC is all "I've had this one pick for 84 years and it's my best friend". Dunlop sell them by the 72, which I've bought two sets of my favourites. They changed the colour of the 1.14 a bit over the years.
  25. Did anyone ever get one of the Dave Ellefson basses? The only real review I can find is a passing comment on the American site about it being too neck-divey.
