Hi jack , What is the magnet fix suggested by Leo Fender ?
Show the picture again Howard.... @BassDoc.... Basically, you put science classroom style cylinder magnets on the G pole pieces to make them higher. Edit, ok, so you can't tag members in this forum!
Do you mean recorded or when heard whilst stood a couple of feet in front of your amp? If they are 3 band instruments have you tried altering the mid range? That usually has a major impact (you can hear the change by playing G string harmonics also). If 2 band boost the mid range on your amp or drop the tone controls back a bit to introduce more mid range.
Both recorded and live. And headphones, old school rigs, straight into a frfr cab, everywhere. It's not an eq issue at all, otherwise it would affect equivalent notes played on the other 3 strings. It's simple, the whole string sounds thinner and weaker. Now, I'm but complaining as such. I loved my first Ray so much I bought another, but only because I successfully mitigated (although not cured) the issue via the pole piece trick. Next time I might try the magnet fix as suggested by Leo Fender himself.
Firstly try and check the front of house sound as it may not be producing the same effect as you're hearing. If still an issue, if you drop the bass boost back a little you will find more mid range will appear in the sound which may even it out. Failing all that, boost the mid range on the amp a little. I have never felt the need to mess around with the pick up poles on a Stingray (I have 9 of them) - and have found them to produce an even FOH sound and record evenly also, across the strings - I'm not even convinced it makes any difference at all (other than lowering the resale value!!).
Conversely, both of mine exhibit the quiet G.
USB output to charge an ipad or phone would actually not be a bad shout... the amount of gigs I have been on where people have forgotten chargers but have a charging cable in the car... (car won't charge an iPad though)
Best thing I ever did for gigging was put a £5 USB charger in the power strip on the back of the pa rack. -
Hey Jack, as far as I am aware - and I am happy to be corrected, Linux isn't so good for DAW capabilities, certainly in comparison to Windows or Mac machines. So, my first suggestion for recording software that will run on both Windows and Mac is Cockos REAPER Which is a blinding application for the money. I have used it for years including some pro-release material. It's a great application that doesn't suck all of your machine resources so will be good for lower power machines - I would however at least suggest a minimum of 8Gb RAM and say an i5 processor (quad core for a Mac). That's pretty much all you'll need, but you will have to install the drivers for the XR18 of course, plug in VIA USB and set up the inputs in the application so that each channel records on to a separate track. Funnily enough that's exactly what we were doing last week with our own XR18, but our laptop this time was running Logic Pro instead. Had I have had the XR here, I would have created you a template to mail over to play with but it's at a different location.
Thanks Dood, I take it the DAW is what I'm using to edit the tracks after recording, is that also what I need to record in the first place? Sucks that Linux support isn't great, I'm not doing Windows ever again, I wonder if any of the rest of the band have decent pcs.....

Hey guys, please take it easy on me, I'm new to recording. I've been using a Behringer XR18 as my main mixer for ages and I would like to start using the recording function. As I understand it, the mixer has the capability to take a pre-everything feed directly from the inputs and route that down a USB cable to a pc. Great, I'm fine with that and that makes sense to me. The problem is, what do I have on the other end? I presumably need a pc (a laptop as this will be on a gig) that is recording that USB input? Some questions that I have: I'm a massive pc nerd, so at home I have a nice i7 6 core/12 thread machine with 32gb of ram. That's what I'll use to edit, process, mix and master these tracks. My laptops, however, are crap. I have a tiny netbook (no power at all but at least it's got an ssd) and an ancient core 2 duo Dell with 2gb of ram and a slow hard drive. Will either of these be suitable for simply capturing the tracks on the gig? The Dell would be the preferred option as it runs Windows (so software recommendations should be easier) and it's so totally unstealable that I'd feel safe with it at a gig. Secondlly, what kind software do I use to capture the recording live and then process it later? My main desktop is linux and I imagine that there are lots of possible options for many operating systems (and you'll all have your own favourites), but what's the name for the type of software that I need? Once I know where to start I'll go off and better educate myself rather than bother you folks with inane beginner questions. Thanks, Jack

Oh man, I've been considering something very similar since I saw Flea playing that. Very envious. You gigging anywhere near me any time soon? :-)

Alex, if you ask 10 different basschatters what they want in an amp you'll get 100 different answers and you'll end up making a monstrosity. -
Hello everyone, It is with some trepidation and possible regret that I am listing my Kemper Profiler for sale. As I'm sure pretty much everyone knows, the Kemper is a digital preamp that holds a practically infinite number of amps, preamps, cabs, effects boxes and outboard gear. What makes the Kemper different to a modelling amp such as the Line 6 or Fractal products is the way in which the digital profiles are created. Someone at Line 6 will model an amp, that is they will start from the ground up to make a digital recreation of an amp. With the Kemper, you take your favorite gear and profile it directly. You record your own amps and the Kemper saves the sound and feel as a digital profile. You also gain access to the rig exchange database online with literally thousands of guitar and bass profiles that other people have captured themselves. I could talk forever about the infinite routing options, custom commands, tweaking and playing possibilities. Rest assured though that if there's something you need you can probably do it with the Kemper. For me, personally I got a Kemper to replace all of my other gear and consolidate, it's done that wonderfully. The problem is though, I quite LIKE gear. I like taking a different rig to each show and I like picking certain bits for a certain sound. The digital stuff is SO versatile that there's just no thrill of the used gear merry go round that I love! I'd prefer to sell the whole rig as it all fit's very well together but if there's no interest I might be tempted to part it out. The rig includes: Kemper (Unpowered, rack version with the latest firmware and 280+ bass rigs preloaded) Floor control pedal board Mission control expression pedal 4-space rack that the Kemper is mounted in, with the rear door modified to perfectly fit the floorboard A POE power supply to power the floorboard and all of the necessary cables I'll post better pictures tomorrow, but it's in perfect condition except for a tiny bit of lint behind the screen glass. It looks pretty much like all of the rest of them. Pics of the custom rack stuff will definitely go up though. Located in Newcastle(ish) and I'll happily post (expensive to insure something this valuable) or deliver if it's a reasonable distance. You're also welcome to come try it out.

Yeah you've got such a great cab already you just need a great small head. GK MB200, Trace Elliot ELF or the GSS 06B400BH.

BF Gen 4 cabs - not anytime soon but a new BF Amp may be!
Jack replied to Al Krow's topic in Amps and Cabs
In one of the Facebook videos Alex states that he sees the cabs that he has currently covering 99% of bassist's needs and that he has no plans to add or replace any bass cabs as of yet. As has been said in this already, amps, guitar cabs and a few other non-bass-cab projects are the immediate plans. -
I have a Helix and would love a pair of FR's, it'd be such a great set up.
If you're ever up North......
Is the Barefaced worth the (considerable) difference in price?
In a word: 'maybe'. The fact that they're the only frfr cabs that look like traditional bass cabs helps with the soundman acceptance factor and you can stack them too, which you can't with many of the other options. On the other hand most of the competition can be used as monitor wedges... Mine do double duty as bass cabs with one band and as pa cabs in my other band and I'm fairly sure they do both better than the competition but part of me wishes I hadn't tried to be clever and that I'd bought a bass cabinet and two nice pa cabs for the same price. I toy with the idea of selling them but I haven't yet as they sound so good.

Yeah curious to hear your thoughts. I've gone Kemper and FR800 and I keep flipping about whether it was a good choice or not...
-
I used to use a boss eq pedal, now I use a 3dB boost 'pedal' on the Kemper.

Whilst these are all excellent suggestions, it seems like you're wanting this as an amp replacement or a backup? In that case, maybe you want more of a bass preamp with a built in DI? What about the industry standard Tech 21 Sansamp, the MXR M80 or the Hartke Bass Attack as suggestions? The PA would idealy need subs (to carry the bass frequencies to the audience) and monitors (so you can hear yourself). If it's just a mixing desk into speakers (with no processing) then the bass sound through a 'proper' di box will be very dry and sterile, hence my suggestions for bass specific DIs above.

I know you've said bag, but I'd like to shove another vote in for the gator shallow cases. I've got 2 of the 4U ones and they're great. Really lightweight and so sturdy.

I have a Gator GR4S on top of my FR800, it's the same dimensions as the BBII. EDIT- Sorry about the bad photo, I'll try for a better one if you want?
Might be interested in the hartke cab to use with my BH250 at home, can you ship it to Belgium?
Sorry Bassdude, don't know how I missed this! I would of course, but I'd imagine that cost would be prohibitive on a low value but heavy item. I'll have a look at some quotes, but do you know the cheapest way to ship something UK>Belgium?

Will the Dr J sparrow run off Phantom? A second-hand MXR M80 certainly will.
Kind of an overreaction and rude response. Anonymity seems to bring out the worst in people... The GED-2112 was designed to Geddy's specifications. It's set up for the way he uses it. There are workarounds through... The dUg can be ordered for use with different voltages. If you have a US version a qualified tech can set it up for use in a different country.
Whilst I can't defend Wolverine's stupid comment, it does seem as though 100% of the bassists on here have said they would have massively preferred a switch to an internal jumper. I know I would. You're right, you designed it for Geddy and not for us, but still, we're the ones who'll be buying it. Or not.

I wonder why no one has made another Akai Unibass?
