1. I've got a nice Accucase bag from Thomann. Shoulder strap, carrying handles, tought and waterproof. Mine's a DJ type bag so there are a ton of pockets and I keep my micro head in the section meant for a laptop. I only have that bag and my basses and cabs so it's got my head, cables, picks, ear plugs, spare tuner, guitar stand, strap, wireless stuff, everything. A quick google says mine is discontinued, but there will be a replacement.
2. I assume that by bass bins you mean subwoofers? If so, then yes it would be fine, but it'll more than likely not be a usable sound. No mid range or top end to speak of, I'd imagine. Most subs stop being useful at a few hundred Hz, most bass players are producing stuff that's 3-5KHz or more. Try it though, you won't hurt anything as long as you don't go below 4 ohms total load.
3.
it always gets a similar rap to Behringer bass gear but, I've had my eyes opened.
Pfft, does it? It shouldn't like, Laney make some good stuff and they make some brilliant guitar stuff.

8 x 10's

I'm 25, fit as an ox and the land rover has more than enough room. I even have the prerequisite p-bass. But you won't catch me with one, far too heavy and rather crass. I know some styles of music calls for the wall-o-doom, but I'd feel silly playing in a tiny bar with a huge rig.
5. I may also be interested depending on colour and price. :-)
6. How grippt are the backs of these things? My pet hate are straps that get my shirt all in a bunch. I've currently got a leather one that is shiny, slick leather on both sides and all the ones I can find for a replacement have high-grip suede or whatever on the underside.
7. I know it's standard and not very helpful to recommend one's own amp, but have you heard the GK MBF? Now that I've mentioned it I believe that every major micro has been mentioned in this thread, so you're no closer. But seriously, the 'proper' tube preamp in the GK is the bee's knees. :-)
8. Another compact and midget user here, no plans on changing any time soon.
9. Bassist Answer: Leave it, the music is in the space. Bass Player Answer: An overdrive, octave or volume boost pedal.
10. Like many I had assumed it was tube. Whilst I'm sure it's still a fantastic product, I would be more tempted to plump for an Epi Valve Junior. I suppose the advantages to the Hoe-Tone / Hot-One are the extra features and the bass-specific voicing.
11. I own a 6.5", a 10", a 12" and a 15". Just one of each but that's plenty. And they all sound good, of course they do otherwise I wouldn't own them any more.
12. I've been after one of these for a while, someone commissioned a small class-D amp on this board a while back and it looked great. I think it may have been build by alienaudio? I didn't like the SWR and as much as I could use the power section of my GK I sometimes need a seperate amp. Ended up with a powered wedge, but I'd quite like the ability to have a separate amp and cab at some point.
13. I have no idea, if they end up around the £99 price point like the guitar heads then I think I'll be finding out.
14. Judging 'a horn' is like judging 'a speaker'. Some are fantastic and some are woeful.
15. Nope, in fact you could run 2 x 8ohms cabs just fine if you wanted as well.
16. Stack the 2x10" on it's short side, so that you have a vertical column of all three speakes.
17. Has anyone seen these? http://www.hotoneaud...hunderbass.html Tiny, 5 watt, SVT-inspired head. Their guitar amps get pretty good write ups and retail for £99. Does anyone have a release date or know anything else about them? I must confess I'd quite fancy one of these, it might make a decent practice amp with my Barefaced Midget.
18. You can catch Bob Gallien himself on Talkbass under the handle 'rag' if you need a hand. He's awesome with this kind of stuff.
19. Is that what they're worth these days? I have a natural with an uprated preamp that I was thinking of moving on to a more loving home, but if they're only worth £180 or so I may keep it!

loud enough?
If you are shoved into a corner, you could put the bass at an angle straddling the corner and you'll create a bass trap which will be incredibly loud / boomy. All speakers suffer from proximity effects when close to a wall so this will help. I always found that I could hear myself better if I stood forward from the speaker (instead of standing right by it),
Yup, all true.
as the note needs to throw forward a bit, considering that the length of a low E note is 837cm, so stand about a metre away (or whatever your lowest note is).
And here, complete nonsense. What does the wavelength of a note have to do with any of this?
21. Actually I agree with all of your post, especially this bit:
Set the levels as low as you can get away with. Most pub bands that I see play far too loud. If anything can't be heard, don't turn it up - turn everything else down!
Well, nearly all, we ALWAYS put kick through the PA.
22. I sometimes find that a low-output or passive (or both) bass can sound weak and distant with a passive DI. The same is certainly true for guitars. You're right though, in most circumstances a passive would be fine. Certainly, seeing as mine sits on a pedal board being fed a buffered, hot, signal, maybe I should have gone passive............
23. I've lost count of how many gigs I've done using just my bass, MXR M80 and the PA. Even if I take an amp, we take a feed from my pedalboard into the PA. There are problems in the system (broken equipment, user error, mismatched levels) somewhere if you can't get a great sound from just the sansamp into the desk. The same goes for you spinynorman, the DI on your portaflex is specifically made to do just what you asked it to, it should work and if it doesn't it's broken.
24. Yeah my tired old mixer at home can't give my countryman enough phantom power to give it huge headroom. It works flawlessly with our proper full band pa mixer though. My point is that a 'better quality box' may not actually solve your problem. A cheaper alternative to a new interface or a new di box is a phantom power supply, but an even cheaper solution than that is to just use a battery.
25. I would be all over this but it's too far away! Gah I was just down in Hemel Hempstead a few weeks ago!
