You fancy my EHX Muff Overdrive? Bored of it and it plays weird with my power supply, not an issue if you just want the one pedal. £20 If you're crazy enough to want it then I use a Mooer Green Mile for an always-on subtle drive for 'no amp' gigs when I miss having my amp and a DOD 250 for actual overdrive.

[/quote] Funny, I was just thinking the worst amp I ever owned in terms of it's condition etc was Crate BX80. 80 watts, 1x15" speaker, graphic eq. Was outmatched for a band situation when it was new and mine was around 65th-hand. The worst 'good amp' I ever owned was it's replacement, a Laney R5. 2x10" and 180W into those speakers, 300 with a cab. It should have been so much better, but it couldn't do anything in a live band context either. Such a shame, I bought a Laney R1 as a small amp at around the same time and I absolutely adore it and still have it 8 or so years on.

I got that the first was the 'nice' expensive Fender, but couldn't tell the others. Makes a good point though, they all sound >90% the same.

I've never owned a truly bad one, my Squier P would be the worst, but even that's great for the price. What I have learned though is not to buy that Epi Thunderbird I've been lusting over.

Thanks ham! Currently it is daisy-chained with two Mooer pedals but I suppose it's trivial to move it to an isolated output. If there's no noise or hum does it really matter?

Afternoon, I recently purchased an EHX Muff Overdrive, [url="http://www.ehx.com/products/muff-overdrive"]this one here[/url]. I have been using it on my Harley Benton 9V PSU, that essentially is designed for Boss pedals, I noticed on the [url="http://www.diago.co.uk/powerstation_compatibility.html"]Diago Compatibility Chart [/url]that my pedal has a +ve ground and as such needs an adapter. As someone with an extremely rudimentary electrical knowledge, can someone explain what this actually means for me? Do I need an adapter? Where's the damage in this system? Thanks, Jack

Does it really need that much though? My MXR M80 which is a similar preamp/di box specifies <9mA in the manual. I have hard time believing the Hartke actually needs more than 22 times as much juice. As to the plug, I cut the EU plug off and ordered an IEC socket from thomann when I bought the pedal. It's a 5 min, no soldering job to replace and now I just use an amp IEC lead to plug the pedalboard in. Planned because the one thing bassists have loads of is amp power leads!

Owning a Land Rover (which I'm about to swap for a Navara) means I sometimes get stuck with the gear. Then again, guitarist1 has a Berlingo estate/minubus/van thing, the drummer a HUGE Ford estate, and guitarist2 and singer both drive and have decent cars. So I do make sure that everyone else gets stuck with the gear to. It's easy to sort it out sometimes. I hate the Land Rover on the motorway for instance and me and guitarist one both have to drive past our practice space in order to get to a regular gig we do in Blyth. So in return for him taking me in his van for free I help him load all of his stuff into the van at the practice space and unload after. I also never carry the PA (at least not when it's all in one place) because I'm the only one who can set it up and I'm the quickest to set up my rig too. It's all about sharing out duties surely? On another note: How the hell does the though process work where you think "I'd really like to join a band!" and you don't have transport? It's just stupid. Not being able to get to gigs or practices or auditions is as bad as not having an instrument.

I think it's a bit small for what I'd consider those requirements to be. How loud do you need to be? Other instruments? PA support or not?

Generally headphones are more sensitive to this kind of thing. They're more full range and you tend to listen more closely to them compared to an amp that's halfway across the room. It may be entirely plausible that the P has always made noise and you've never noticed.

Would have a hard time buying an instrument online but for everything else I've used Thomann frequently, GAK a handful of times and stringbusters loads. Also bought strings from Status and I've never had to deal with customer service, but that's only because all of the orders have been hassle free.

On topic, we have a Behringer mixer that seems ok, but I wouldn't want any in my rig. Stuff has a bad reputation for being unreliable. Get a better head second hand, those GKs last forever, so do Peavey!

Weird. Is it not just a sort of stopper for the pedal, using the same component to save costs? It looks like a switch to let the unit know the pedal is fully down, like an on/off on a wah, but you're right the pedal never goes low enough to hit it.

It can be a useful problem solver or effect pedal. The DI is great, and often I use that to run to the board and then the amp's eq can be just for the stage sound. They're also pretty useful for having some semblance of your own sound if you're using a house amp. Failing that, the two channels open up some useful sound-shaping capabilities. I'd never do a gig without an MXR M80 or a similar unit. I'm quite tempted by the Darkglass actually. And the EHX one. And that new bassswitch thing. And I cant wait to see what GK come up with.

I'm a tortex guy too, but I saw the scoring method one one of those 'rig rundown' videos and thought it was a cool idea.
