Barefaced Compact and Midget - NOW TRADED

Hey guys, I've been wanting to downsize my rig for a while now and it's time for it all to go to free up some money! Items are located in Newcastle(ish) but I am happy to deliver, prices do not include delivery but we can certainly work something out, I'm open to offers too. Scroll down for pics! [s]Genz-Benz Streamliner 9 This is a simply wonderful micro head that runs the gamut from 'warm studio pre' to 'grindy SVT'. Simple (streamlined!) front panel but a huge wealth of options on the back. 500W at 8ohms and 900W at 4ohms. Selectable mid frequency, DI with lift, pre/post and mic/line. Two speakon jacks, headphones, etc etc etc. The head is absolutely mint, still even has the stickers on. Looking for £550.[/s] [s]Gallien-Krueger 1001-RBII Industry standard head, relatively small and light for a full-sized head at 2RU and 22lbs. 700W at 4ohms from the main power amp plus 50W from GKs biamp system. Amazing EQ and tone section on the front, plus all the standard option such as effects loop and DI. Why am I even describing this head? People know exactly what it's capable of. It it sounds like I'm gushing about this head it's because I am, I tried to ditch the GK growl for the whole warm tube thing (hence the above Streamliner) but I just can't, I need that GK sound so I am looking for an MB Fusion to replace this monster of an amp. Mint condition except a 'J' on the back (I mark all my gear) but this can be removed before a sale obviously. Comes with the rack ears too, and all for only £420.[/s] Gallien Krueger Cabs (Only 1x12" remains, 2x12" is sold!) These are the first-generation, Neo cabs that are a few years old now. Not that there's anything wrong with that and the cabs sound fantastic but I just wanted to be clear. They are light (30 something and 50 something pounds respectively) and sooooo, sooooo warm sounding. These were the cabs that really proved Neo could be done mass-market. The cabs are fairly neutral, but there's a slight hump in the lower midrange and a slightly restrained high midrange that matches really, really well with the GK heads. £180 for the 1x12" and [s]£300 for the 2x12"[/s] is probably about right. Thanks for reading, I can certainly do pictures and I will certainly accept offers if you think my prices aren't in line with what they should be. I would be interested in trades, but I'm positive I want a GK MB Fusion and a Barefaced Midget and Compact stack, so it would have to be just right.

Sounds like an ideal job for one of those Harley Benton heads? 500W for like £150 if memory serves, they get great reviews too.

It's very very sad that they're messing up the brand like this. I mean, if they want (or have) to build cheaper, overseas instruments then fair enough but why is it so confusing? Does this mean people with SUBs are suddenly going to find them selling for less if people confuse them with the newer overseas ones? I totally agree with the poster above who pointed out that Ibanez, maker of some of the finest and most expensive as well as cheapest instruments on the market has coped just fine without renaming it's basses after old basses. Imagine if their next beginner's range of basses was the Iceman range, you could buy an Iceman Soundgear 300 or an Iceman ATK. Call these basses something else! Even reuse the OLP name if you want as that's essentially what these basses are (cheaper overseas ones), either way they certainly aren't SUBs!

I'm a really big fan of the Ashdown Five Fifteen, the 2x10 head and cabinet one.
And add that to your signature as well. You may strike lucky doing this.
Lol, it hasn't worked for me!
Pray do tell what they might be?
That they're addictive, they control your lives and that they're owned by people you should stay well away from. That's what I've heard about growlers from my dad anyway.

Another vote for just using your stage rig, assuming you have one.
-
I use a 2x12" and 1x12", which is kind of the same as what you've got just with bigger drivers. Yeah so one speaker gets twice as much power as the others, so what? Turn it down if the top one starts to complain and you'll be fine.

Gigs without soundmen, without GOOD soundmen, without monitors all exist. And I always use a post-eq DI. My amp is kinda important.

I do love those basses, when I couldn't find the right Ray 4 I almost went Growler. As it is, I'm pleased I stayed away, I heard bad things about them.

Duesenberg StarPlayer bass, Mike Campbell design. £700 o.n.o

IME they're the most consistent and one of the best mass-produced basses on the market. Aside- That 'weak g' problem definitely exists. I thought it was a myth until I started looking for a 4 not so long ago and played maybe 20-30 in a short time. Just raise the G side of the pickup and push the pole pieces down and it's gone though.

Hello guys, I've always used Rotosound flats or La Bella rounds on my Fender P but recently decided to try Status strings, I bought a 40-100, long scale set of the flats. When fitted to my P the A, D and G strings all sounded great but the E was muted and totally dead. I called Status just assuming it was bum string and they sent me a new one but this one is the same. What's gone on here? The E just sounds tubby and has no volume whatsoever and I refuse to believe they've sent me two defective ones in a row. One thought I had was that the string proper is around the string winder, as in we're past the winding bit and onto the full-thickness part of the string, is this what's causing it? Should I have bought medium-scale strings? It's a full-size precision, just a standard MIA one and I've always bought long-scale strings in the past. Status do say that long-scale is 34" on their website. Thanks in advance, Jack

You're getting the 2 preamp channels (clean and dirty) confused with the fact that you have two poweramps. Plug each cab into a poweramp and then worry about your preamp, you'll have none of the issues you're worrying about.

+1 for the Di Marzio Will Power, after much research it's the one I went for and I'm pleased I did.
-
If you really want the 'straight to power amp' sound you still need to boost the level somewhere. Lots of studio preamps really are flat, and often the compressors and eqs can be bypassed totally. Look at something like a Presonus Eureka or (my favorite DI ever) the Grace Designs m101 or the m103 if you still want the full-featured pre.

So the barefaced stuff handles the older school sound alright then? I just feel that some cabs struggle to sound, I dunno, less capable? I quite enjoy the strained sound. Not speaker breakup but sort of the feeling that they're being pushed to their limits, maybe I'm making it up I dunno. I'd love to have a Midget/Compact setup.

Make me an offer on mine, guyl.
