vbt is always best you can then take the hot lead from the output of the blend pot to the tone pot then you dont get that nasty loss of volume when one pup is on part full volume do you use tone at all disconnect it if not and use VB nothing
Ta. How do I wire VBT? Do I need new pots?
  2. Hi. Using my newly acquired OLP MM3 in public for the first time this morning and found that it was difficult to mute the bass while I am not playing without messing with the volume at the amp. Problem is that I am used to using the volume control on my bass as a mute between songs. I run my bass flat out and control tone at the amp. The MM3 has separate volume controls for each coil and unless I turn them down together at the same rate one of them picks up the induction loop and produces feedback. The simple fix is to mute using the amp volume, but this is problematic as it is easy to get wrong when I need the level back up. Is there a simple fix to turn the MM3 controls into a volume and blend control? I know I can probably do this by going active but I would prefer to stay passive. Thanks for listening.
  3. Worst mistake I ever made was to tell the guy who regularly mixes us a tip I picked up when I used to do a little engineering. To my shame I used to take advantage of the placebo effect and pretend to fiddle with the foldback until the band was happy. Basically this guy he ignores requests to change levels. I guess it comes around.
And some of the audience have ears as well as feelings and would really like to hear something other than a dull thud in he chest from the Roscoe bass on stage
I think you will find that thud is probably the kick. In my experience as a member of the audience engineers seem to favour kick drum over bass. I went to see a favourite band a few years back in London. The bass player was using a gorgeous looking 'burst Lakland Decade and playing his heart out. Unfortunately I couldn't hear anything he was playing even though I knew the songs. The whole bottom end was completely overwhelmed by the kick drum to the extent that it actually obscured the structure of the songs. Was a huge shame. Off topic a bit but.... I have the huge pleasure of playing occasionally with a very talented and experienced big band trumpet player. He surprised me recently by telling me that he looked to the bass player to lead the song, not the drummer. I didn't know that. Changed my playing somewhat.

    Hulloooo

Been lurking for a few months now and thought I ought to introduce myself. I am Steve, just turned 50. Married with two kids and a day job with HP. Been playing bass for 10ish years (spent most of the rest playing acoustic guitar). Always fancied bass but never really got round to it till I was too old. I play mostly in church but occasionally for some rather eclectic friends ( a Klesma band and a hardcore dance act!). I am not a greatly accomplished player but enjoy keeping the song going. Cant sight read but have a reasonably good ear and tend to play off the cuff (unless practice is really required). My gear is all cheap stuff OLP MM3 and Peavey valve pre-amp, amp and cab but I am pretty happy with it. Poor man's rig If you look hard in this vid you can briefly see me pretending to play at a hardcore rave. I am the guy in the cans behind the guy in the mask and beard. For the KLF fans among you, the guy on the mic is Bello B! I suspect he has no clue who I am. Bello B live on CLSM PA 2004 You can also hear me play here. Stevanjohns Chow
  6. OK. Am thinking of doing something similar to my MM3. Would you suggest I avoid these?
  7.
I was going to add active electronics to this bass but I never got round to finishing the job.
Hey. Is this the one you were going to stick an Artec SE-2A in? You still got the Artec?

    Peavey gear

Peavey T.B Raxx valve pre-amp through a Peavey 120 Classic valve amp into a Peavey BW 115. I love it.
  9.
Poor mans rig. Tanglewood Rebel 5 through a BLE 100 into a Peavey T.B Raxx pre-amp, Classic Series 120 valve amp and BW cab. I like it.
Poor man's rig Mk 2. .
  10. Hi, Thinking of getting rid of my beloved Tanglewood Rebel 5. It has served me well and sounds pretty good to my ears, but time to move on. Got Elites on it which are a bit dull now (but how I like it). You can listen to it here and looky below. Ta

  12. Very cheap but looks a bit odd to me. Pickup poles dont line up and the pickguard is wonky. 13. Anyone interested in my Ashdown Dual Compressor? Got it off eb*y a few months back but it didn't really find a use for it. 15 quid plus P+P. Sounds good but it's an old one so clips a bit without careful fiddling with the knobs (all the old ones do apparently?).
  14.
Given its a home made paint job I would think it depends on how he's finished it, I would think if you were to strip it back to wood you can kiss goodbye to the dark stain finish these usually have, you'd probbably have to restain it yourself, but I think it looks quite funky as it is!
Ta. I think it was only oiled originally so a good oiling may bring it back to colour.
  15. Got a couple of questions. Firstly, I have read good things about Vester quitars, has anyone played one of these? Second, is paint removal from a Bubinga body really a sensible option?

I agree it might get pulled - he's treading a fine line by not mentioning those 3 wee letters O, L & P anywhere in his description.
Ta. I dont think he knows what he has. I asked hi about the volume control and and his answer was he didnt know as he was selling for someone else.

  23.
Unfortunately it's the rather random and unpredictable variety of coupling called mechanical coupling, whereby the stage floor acts as a giant drum skin. I wouldn't want to be reliant on that for my lows, especially as it often causes big bottom onstage but not out in the room where you really need it. To get acoustic coupling just keep your cab within a foot or two of the floor and walls - that gives you extra lows with little risk of membrane resonance weirdness, just straightforward reflected sound from your cab coming back and reinforcing the sound that's going forward. Alex
Ta. Keeping my cab a foot of the floor will be in interesting challenge--moving it horizontally is hard enough!
