1. I think it's an audio memory thing. Some people are simply better at it than others. Having sung to the same kinds of songs in church and played guitar since I was a kid (over 35 years now...) I have moderately good pitch memory (my dad did too). Given a tune I know well I can usually make a good stab at the key it is supposed to be sung in without using an instrument (which is useful when there are no musicians at a meeting and we want a good sing song). Or work out what a note is based on my memory of what the top E on a guitar sounds like. Occasionally I surprise myself by being spot on. But mostly not (just tried to remember E, tested it on the piano and found I was whistling a D!).
 2.
If only, its normally "can I have £20 to go and get bladdered/stoned, Dad?" On topic: I also thought the dusty end was at the body end of the neck
it's the other dusty end for me..
 3. Hi. Learnt a couple of pieces recently that were tabbed mostly around the first few frets (e.g. Pump it Up). Made me realise I don't really like playing down there as I am a bit of a chancer and get all confused if I run out of board because I am too close to the nut. Was wondering if there were any significant benefits of playing down there. Ta
 4.
You're mad!! (it's all very subjective eye of the beholder and whatnot )
Yay!
 5. Am I mad or is the Yamaha SBV a beautiful thing... Link
 6.
... except he wasn't in tune at the end.
7. cool. flat beat at no 13.
 8. Thanks. Simples!
 9. So now I am worrying about the electronics shorting out against the shielding. There is not a lot of space in there and the Artec circuit boards are bare and vertical. The contacts on the main one are near the bottom of the cavity. I dont think anything is shorting as it seems to work just fine but I would feel a little more comfortable if they were insulated somehow. It there anything I can use to cover the contacts on the board You can see the Artec here Ta
 10. Ta. Had a go yesterday. Quite enjoyed it and nice and quiet now.
 11. Hi. Have acquired a A4 sheet of sticky copper shielding for my OLP MM3. Am thinking I might be able to cover the bottom of the cavity with one piece but wondering how best to create a template. Anyone got any suggestions? Ta
 12. That's interesting. The guides on the bridge are offset (the top one is closer to the tail). Not seen one like that before.
 13.
The best thing to do is rout out a hole and fit a battery box. I did to my MM3 - Those Gotoh ones are probably the nicest ones.
Yeah. I saw that. Did you do it yourself? I'm afraid I will bodge it.
 14.
That's quite possible. The transformers in the amp generate large electromagnetic fields that could have been swamping the pickups at such close proximity.
Very likely that then. It hums quite a bit when I get close to the head. Particularly when only one coil is being used.
 15.
How is the pre-amp? I have got one to go in my G&L L2500 with some fancy pick-up switching.
It's loverly. Havnt cranked it yet but at so far it seems to done my B string quite a bit of good and overall the tone is clearer and has a bit more bark. And that's running it flat. Quite a bit of boost which I havn't really tried yet. Not used an active bass before so hard to compare but so far it was well worth the upgrade and cheap too (fifteen quid plus shipping on ebay). The old electronics were little more than switches really. Now wondering what to do with the battery, currently its sitting under the pick-guard. G&L L2500 eh! That's a nice looking bass.. What you planning to do?
 16.
Hi. Just fitted an Artec SE2-A to my OLP MM3 and it works but I am getting this huge buzz. Gets worse when I pan to either pickup. Have checked the wiring and nothing obvious wrong. Any suggestions?
Seemed to have fixed it now. Resoldered an earth and now it's fine (may have also been to do with me testing it while it was lying on top of my amp?)

Listened to Moving Picture loads when I was a kid. Forgotten how good it was.
 19. Just been watching some video of Will Calhoun (Living Colour). He's pretty cool.
 20.
I have fairly middling hands but rarely do truly one finger per fret - instead my thumb stays where it is (in the centre of the back of the neck most of the time) and the rest of my hand pivots about it. This lets me cover quite a lot of fretboard without shifting. So when stretching up the neck my thumb ends up headstock side of my index finger whilst when going the other way it can end up level with my little finger. Alex
Aha. So you move your thumb only when you need to change positions. Thanks. I will try that.
 21.
I have a similar problem and I've just damaged my little finger which has been caused in part by stretching too much. As a result of this I've been practising this week very slowly with my little finger tied to my ring finger with a hair band. It was a bit weird at first but its helped me think in terms of 3 or 4 frets rather that stretching and trying for a range of 4 or 6 frets
Not sure. My thumb tends to float. Was trying to focus on anchoring my thumb earlier but not suer where it should be. Opposite my fingers or closer to the head? Opposite felt weird but seemed to help.

 24. Hi, Having small hands makes long quick stretches along the neck a bit of a challenge for me. Currently trying to learn the bridge part for the Jackson's "I Want You Back" and finding the first two phrases a bit hard. Requires me to move my whole hand quickly (rather than simply place a finger) which is a bit hit and miss and makes it easier to loose my way. Anyone got any tips? Ta
 25. Korg CA-30 does it for me. About 10 quid
