1.
I hate wenge fingerboards, I like Warwicks with ebony boards and ovangkol necks. Wenge has to be one of the ugliest woods about. It is also very hard to work with, and the dust is pretty dodgy too.
So what do you reckon the Streamer at the top of this thread is made of?
2. I'm going to gig this bass again at the weekend.... I've adjusted the strap height, so hopefully I can get to grips with the weight / shoulder issue. Tried the bass again in rehearsal and it really sounds amazing. Just wondering, does this one have the famous wenge neck that people rave about? Can you tell just from the photos?
3. Cool. That's great for some reason I thought these were heavy beasts! 9lbs is totally fine weight wise. You don't want to post this one though do you?
4. Any idea about the weight? They usually weigh a bit, which has always stopped me from owning one. Shame cos that's a beaut.
5.
'Red' and a Ltd Ed Streamer Nothing put up yet as I want to have some decent pics and I'm undecided as to whether to just put them on ebay... I've advertised Warwick basses on here in the past and unfortunately there is more love for Warwick in the wider world (i.e. I sold 2 Warwicks a couple of months ago and got £500 MORE on ebay than I had them advertised on here!).
Yeah Warwicks seem to be going very cheap around here.... I can totally understand putting them up on ebay. Although I suppose putting them up here is no harm if you know what your bottom liine is. What's the pickup config / colour of the streamer?
6. Warwick hunt.... I had a quick look but I can't find your for sale threads!
7. Interesting. This one is bolt on, I've heard that the NT basses are less prone to neck dive. It's not that bad really, most people wouldn't probably even notice it.... Its not as if you have to hold the neck up with your left hand or anything. It's just that there is more weight than I am used to in the neck, which puts as much pressure on my left shoulder as a heavier (for instance) fender would typically... Which unfortunately aggravates my dodgy shoulder, especially over the course of 2 or 3 gigs in a row.
8.
What does the bass actually weigh?
It's just under 9lbs.
9. Thanks for the suggestion Doctor J. I already use a very wide Comfort strap. Unfortunately, my shoulder is very sensitive to small changes in weight, and as the set I play is so long, I really noticed the way the bass was weighted in a negative way. If I was just playing for an hour a night it wouldn't bother me. After 2 hours however, I'd know all about it!
10. Update: Gigged the Warwick last night. Fantastic sounding bass. Really tight sounding and easy to hear. I love it in every way but two: 1: Neck dive. The neck dive is not terrible, but bad enough that I noticed my left shoulder becoming sore after about an hour. I have a bad shoulder, and always try to play light basses. The Warwick is light enough overall, but the way it's balanced is a big problem for me. 2: Looks. I still can't get over the way it looks... I'm a big tall lanky lad, and I just feel like this particular bass looks pretty silly on me. While that wouldn't be enough to stop me buying a bass, my preferance would be to own something that I like the look of! So, what is the solution to the neck dive issue? Are the neck through Warwicks less prone to this? Are the expensive models any better for neck dive? On the looks front, I love the look of the infinity or the Star basses, but they are a touch over budget!
11.
warwick P pup tends to be further towards the bridge compare to a fender P bass - my streamer stage one will not sound like a P bass. because of it. I have a P bass to sound like a P bass
It doesn't sound exactly like a P, but it's more like a P than a J! It cuts through nicely. I've never played any other Warwick, so I don't know how well the other pickup configurations cut through.
12. Cheers for that Mog. Can't see him taking 5 ton for it.... but you never know. I know he paid waaaay more than that for it, but probably back in Celtic Tiger land. Tis indeed a bleak time to be selling anything.
13. If anyone has a sandberg with a P pickup in it.... I'd entertain a trade!
14.
Is the real-life colour more like picture three of the back?
Yes come to think of it.
15.
It reminds me of an old but well used boat at the seaside.
That's why I like it.... I usually don't dig the relic thing, but when you see this in the flesh it really is awesome. It just feels like it's been around forever, even though it can't be any more than a year or two old.
16. Wow that went quick! Not here though... Hey all, Well my recent dabbling into Warwicks has me going off in a new direction sound wise yet again... which means this is now up for sale or trade. Been my main gigging bass for the past 6 months and has performed admirably. Like all Sandbergs, this one feels well put together and solid. The hardware looks like it would survive a nucular winter. It's 9.5 lbs in weight, and is nicely setup at the moment. It's about 6 months old.... as in I bought it new 6 months ago, and is in perfect nick. Apart from the obvious! I'm looking for 850 plus shipping from Ireland. Im open to trades too.... obviously if anyone has anything tasty and Warwick shaped, or high end amp head shaped I might be tempted. Oh, and when I took the photos it was a bit overcast, so I think my phone over compensated colour wise. It's not quite as vivid in real life, the blue is a touch more muted. Thanks, Jesse
17. Thanks Mart, spot on!
18. Oh, and does anyone know how I find out where it was made? I know some of em are Korean or Chinese, but a German one would be the one to have?
19. Mog it's actually a friend of a friend selling it. It's up on adverts at the mo. I have it for the weekend to give it a shot. Just trying to work out what a fair price is given that over here it seems like nothing is selling at all... everyones broke. It feels good to play, but I might hold out for something a bit pricier that I prefer the look of. I saw the jazzman, but I'm after something with the P pickup.
20. Thanks lads. So Mog, given that the bass is in Ireland... would you say €550 to €600? Luke, sorry to bother you with that PM, didin't realize it weren't for sale any more.
21. Luke, can't find that thread. Do you have a linky anyone?
22. Ok ok.... tell you what. If I end up buying it, and you end up buying one in a different colour, we can do a trade!
23. Would you consider it a crime to refinish it? I.e. take it back to the natural wood and use a light oil on it?
24. I hear you on the hardware, it could do with being pimped slightly I reckon! The pickups say MEC but the gold writing has worn off quite a bit so it's not immediately clear. Anyone else with a price for this piece of wood? What would this have retailed at in 2006?
