http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPaBWxcnl30&feature=player_embedded#! Any ideas what this bass is? I don't recognise it. I think this is the same one, but in a different finish:

You should not have to work through pain to do your job, especially if you are in pain because of an accident at work. Employers are legally obliged to help you with this kind of thing---reduced duties and so on. Don't make it worse out of some crazy sense of "duty".

Have you been to see a physio? They might be able to give you some exercises to strengthen it. Unfortunately, quite often the only cure for this kind of thing is patience---you have to be prepared to rest it, and not use it even though you really want to. Otherwise you can risk making it worse. My friend had to have knee surgery and couldn't do any kind of sport for about 18 months. He hated every minute of it, but it means that now his knee is fully healed. If he'd get stressing it he would have done permanent damage.

Highway One Jazz on Glasgow Gumtree
uncle psychosis replied to uke's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Nice! If it weren't a sunburst, I'd find it hard not to drive to Glasgow today.
You could drive to Dalgety Bay and get a nice black Jazz... -
What should be in the box of a new Hartke??
uncle psychosis replied to Will Farnell-Smith's topic in Amps and Cabs
Sounds like its ex-demo and they've lost the box to me. Its not on (unless they advertise it as so and give a discount). For what its worth, I've always had good service from both GuitarGuitar Glasgow and Newcastle. -
Are very expensive pickups worth it?
uncle psychosis replied to Kesh's topic in Accessories and Misc
Depends. I think there is a lot of snake oil and placebo effect in action when it comes to pickups. For some people, its worth it---for others, not so much. For what its worth, I have a jazz bass with Wilkinson pickups and it sounds awesome. I also used to own a Japanese telecaster with Bareknuckle pickups. It also sounded awesome. My own personal bias is that for playing live---especially on bass---really expensive pickups aren't worth it. But others may disagree, and thats cool. -
IMO the music that you choose to play is just as important as your ability on your chosen instrument(s). As a band RHCP don't really do anything for me so while Flea may or may not be a fantastic bass player because I don't like the music he plays I find it hard to appreciate his playing. Also I'm a great believer in the importance of the song and the arrangement over the instrumental prowess of the individual musicians. To me if as a musician you are more noticed that the songs you are playing that means either the songs themselves are weak, or you are over-playing. Either way IMO you've failed as a musician.
My thoughts exactly. Flea is very good at what he does. I just don't really like it. He's really talented, but that doesn't mean I want to listen to him!

I had a DHA VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive and it was the dogs proverbials. Absolutely brilliant. I sold it, but only because it was total overkill for what I needed it to do. I can't help but feel Dave is missing a trick with his finishes. Functionwise, they are serious pieces of kit. Lookswise, they look like a DIY project. I had more than one soundguy question whether or not mine was going to damage his desk (they assumed it was something I'd thrown together myself). I can't help but wonder if some potential customers aren't put off because they don't look like a "proper" pedal?

Good stuff Basschat is awesome. For future reference, theres no way I'd ever send a postal order / bank transfer to some random on gumtree. I'm nervous enough about using those methods with people who I "know" through forums, never mind a total stranger!

Cheap classic vibe precision - easy to fix up
uncle psychosis replied to gjones's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Already mentioned here I think the listing might have changed. I'm sure it said before that the pups had been hammered in.
it did. I was going to bid but the sentence "the pickups have been literally hammered in" put me off somewhat! -
NBD - Fender Japan 1962 P bass reissue
uncle psychosis replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
...but...but....its made of wood and stuff? Where's fret and what have you done with him? Very nice indeed. Can I ask where you ordered it from? Ishibashi? -
Relicing - how far can you go?
uncle psychosis replied to solo4652's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I actually quite like that... i've definitely seen much, much, much worse! -
Sounds like you need to send them a message along the lines of "Me and the drummer want to rehearse on a regular basis, we'd like you to commit to that, are you able to? If not, we'll have to find someone else who is as committed as we are". A wee kick up the arse is what some people need sometimes.

Learning the bass guitar with smaller hands/fingers
uncle psychosis replied to LesDong's topic in Bass Guitars
There are lots of professional, female, double bass players---having small hands is not a show stopper when it comes to learning the bass. I used to find that lots of stretches were just impossible, but then I started going for lessons and my teacher helped me to realise that it was poor left hand technique holding me back, not the size of my hands. It does get easier with practice but it might be worth getting a few lessons to make sure your technique is correct too. -
Things to look for and avoid in a cheap electric guitar
uncle psychosis replied to Mornats's topic in Guitars
I have a Danelectro U2 56 and its brilliant. I'd post a picture but I can't because I'm at work. The Squier VMs are very good in 6 string version too. There is another brand called Vintage who make some pretty nice stuff too---I'd probably go with them over a cheap Epiphone. Having said that, some Epis are very nice guitars too. -
Nice one. Playing with other people is the single best thing a bass player can do to progress in my opinion. The fact that its also fun is a definite bonus

Anyone got a GDI21? Any good? How does it play with other pedals? I want something I can plug into my mixer so I can play with headphones. Preferably something that I can put my other pedals before too. The cheaper the better. I was also looking at the Joyo JF-14, the "american sound". Any ideas how it would perform going straight into a mixer?
Hi, Only been playing bass for 3 months(past 25 years drumming!) and played my first gig last night! Clueless when it comes to effects. What, if any, do people recommend as a staple diet for effects? i've got a Zoom 708 but it's a bit too technical for me and thinking of having separate pedals instead of an all in one. I'm thinking of adding a compression pedal but not sure what else, no need for wah or weird sounding effects as it's pub rock type stuff! Cheers.
As someone who has spent many an hour and many, many pennies buying effects...don't buy effects just for the sake of it. Its very easy to look round forums such as this and think "ooh, I need to have some effects" but I'd honestly say that its far too easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need stuff when you don't. Are there any specific sounds you're trying to achieve? If not, you probably don't need much more than EQ and maybe a touch of dirt for pub rock.

I don't stand anywhere specific, but since my guitarist is left handed I prefer to be on his left hand side so we don't clash headstocks together on small stages.

Using Fingers on your Plucking Hand to Mute Bass Stings
uncle psychosis replied to dakanoosh's topic in General Discussion
just tried the floating thumb out on my 5... definitely feels a lot more 'correct' on it...
Yeah, I think some people find floating thumb easier. It just doesn't feel right to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess! -
Using Fingers on your Plucking Hand to Mute Bass Stings
uncle psychosis replied to dakanoosh's topic in General Discussion
I've found that this technique is pretty essential on a 5-string. I could never get the hang of floating thumb myself. -
The seller told me. I left it in the end because I asked for more pics and all he sent was blown up shots of the same pic on ebay!!!!
Some people are just muppets when it comes to selling stuff. I've lost track of the number of ads for expensive gear where the only photo is a badly lit low resolution mobile phone camera shot. Even if the seller is genuine it just makes them look dodgy. It can score you some cheap deals though, if you're willing to take a risk...
The same way Amazon chooses what to recommend. It makes links using technology rather than people so assumes that everyone who buys A and B will like C D and E, even though purchase A was for your Mum and B for your 8 year old daughter. It follows searches other people do and links words rather than tunes so, if you put in jazz, you get Johnny Hates Jazz and so on. Garbage in, garbage out as the old computer nerds used to say.
You can tell amazon "do not use this product when recommending me stuff".

Singer is flat, broaching the subject...
uncle psychosis replied to jaydentaku's topic in General Discussion
I'd personally go for the straight out with it approach, in a non aggressive manner just mention "you were a little sharp there (in places), can you hear your self ok?". As some one said earlier, the singer would be quick to tell the band if they played something wrong. Just tell him, but be relaxed and constructive about then you shouldn't get thrown through the wall.
^^^this. Be polite and just point out an issue. Its no wonder bands fall apart when ideas like "tell him to buy him a magic box to make his singing better" are actually taken seriously.
