1. I'm interested in this... any pics?
2. Have you tried a sansamp bddi? Very good at that grindy tubey overdrive thing. I just bought one to use as a practice tool / di and its pretty cool... (however I'm also eyeing up the dha di-eq because im not actually a massive user of overdriven bass sounds).
3.
Are you saying the guy did the right thing fkn me over cos I initially wanted to send a courier???
No. But you can hardly have endeared yourself to him by ignoring the terms of the auction. By firstly ignoring the "collection only" part of the auction and then changing your mind about that and saying you'll go get it you may have come across as a bit flakey and indecisive, which may have contributed to him pulling out. I don't agree with what he did but nor do I think you helped yourself much.
4. If I was selling something as collection only on eBay and someone bid on it and then wanted a courier I'd be really annoyed and tell them where to go. The later stuff is annoying but it sounds like a bit of a mess all round.
5. I'd always assumed these were a one trick pony but it appears not. What sets these apart from a "normal" precision?
6.
I had a serious think about opening a rehearsal studio some years back and came to the conclusion that I had no idea how they make ends meet. Never mind make a profit. So perhaps it isn't surprising. In the Glasgow area there are one or two with good equipment but, of course, they are almost impossible to get booked into. The rest are somewhere between OK and very poor.
I've never had a problem getting into a decent room in Glasgow. My only issue is their insistance on 3 hr bookings. The practice rooms we use in Glasgow and Edinburgh are both decent for bass rigs- usually a trace 410 combo or a decent 810 and 300w head. Never had issues with power/volume.
7.
Small Stubbys, top of your pic.
Pants. Thanks anyways.
8. Are the 3mm stubbys the "normal" sized ones (middle row, far right) or the teeny weeny teardrop shaped ones (top row, far right)?
9. You have PM incoming...
10.
Hmmm, nice idea - but I doubt that even selling all four of my basses and all my amps would get me near the price required for a G&L...!
A Tribute L2000 sold on here the other week for less than £400...
11.
Some people seem to be taking this overly serious - it's just a few lines from one of Rollins' books/spoken word routines that some venue employee has copied out and posted up somewhere for a laugh...
Ex-ack-er-ly. Some people round here need to lighten up a bit.
12. Beautiful. If I had the readies I'd be all over that!
13.
There's nothing pourous about the poly finish on any bass I've ever owned, or the glossy neck, shiney metal and plastic. If residue sits on them, I'll give it a wipe. Do nitro finishes allow smoke through to the wood? Does carbon fibre hold a musty smell when curry is eaten in the same room? I've already said I can understand unfinished wood might retain a smell but personally, I've never even held a bass made of unfinished wood, and if I did I'd be more bothered about the damp sweat and dirt build up in the grain.
Good luck trying to "wipe off" the stench of smoke from the material inside a case. My mate's hardcase stinks so much you can smell it from several feet away when he opens it. As for the guitars themselves- nicotine stains. That's why smokers get yellow teeth and fingers (even though they wash their hands and brush their teeth a lot more than people clean their basses) Even assuming you can "wipe it off"- It would be like buying a guitar covered in caked on mud or grease. You might well buy a guitar in that kind of nick, but you'd certainly want to pay less for it!
14. I don't think I could ever spend more than £1k. And even then, it would have to be *really* special. The only things I can see myself buying in the future are a nice jazz and a nice precision- excellent of examples of both can be had new (never mind second hand) for less than £1k too
15. Man, I'm excited by this. I love shell pink. Can't wait to see more!
16. I have no idea how experienced you are---but have you considered going to a bass teacher? (an actual, proper bass teacher, not just someone who dabbles a bit). You might find that they are able to help you change your technique a bit to put less strain on your wrist. Even if you're really fastidious about your technique you might find that a second opinion useful.
17. Free listings on eBay this weekend. Someone buy it and save me the hassle!
18. The "normal" convention is that an accidental is only cancelled by a natural sign or the end of the bar.
19. Good condition, boxed with PSU. Bought new by me last year. Sounds ace but I have my eye on some new gear, so something has to go! £80 posted.
20. Ok. I'm still interested but seeing as its January funds are short until payday!
21. Might give this one a go. Mind you, thanks to 2 Many DJs *this* is how I think it should go...
22. EHX Octave Multiplexer. Does lower octave / subharmonic stuff. Sounds pretty cool but its not really my thing. Few little scuffs and velcro on the bottom but in full working order. No box. £35 delivered. I'll take paypal but bank transfer preferred. Photo here
