1. I really want one of these (especially in that finish!)... Sadly I have no money to spend just now
2. I'm interested in doing the same (mainly because I want non-standard finish options...). *grabs chair*
3.
Had a good listen, the drums and sax were great but the bass and keys sounded awful.
My thoughts too. That style of bass playing does nothing for me, sadly.
4.
well, use your local luthier and don't buy anything from this bloke...
Exactly. I had a summer job working in a shop and people would come in, buy a pint of milk, and then say "how much? its 20p cheaper in the shop across the street..." ---but buy it anyway.
5.
There's no shame in not liking either LZ or BS. I've never really understood the attraction of the bands either. I'm a big fan of keeping things concise and to the point. IMO both have a tendency to ruin a perfectly good song by unnecessary muso noodling in the middle. My covers band have looked at doing something by Led Zep, and came to the conclusion that the only one worth bothering with without a lot of editing and re-arranging would be "Rock And Roll". Another band who's songs also really ought to be in our set - Deep Purple - suffer from a similar affliction.
Sums it up pretty nicely for me, Never understood the hero worshipping of LZ in particular. Some great moments, but sadly they were normally punctuated by 15 minutes of indeterminate noodling on either side. Not for me at all.
6. Yamaha, yamaha, yamaha.
7.
The Hiscox STD-EBS case fits my 35" scale Reverend Rumblefish bass. If that's not big enough then I'm sure the STD-EBP will be suitable. Full details here.
Cool, thanks. I asked Yamaha and they said: "The Yamaha branded Hiscox STD-EBS case fits all Yamaha basses. Alternatively, to discover if a dedicated TRB case is available to purchase separately it would be necessary to contact the sales department. they can be contacted on 0844 811 1116" I am taking this to mean that an EBS will fit (presumably the yamaha branded ones are identical in form, fit, and function...)
8. Yes, its sold. Sorry, I forgot to amend the original post.
9. Hey folks I've posted this elsewhere but it makes sense to ask in here too: Annoyingly the stitching around the straps on my SKB hard foam case is beginning to fail. I like this case a lot, but this will be the second time I've experienced the same problem so I think I'll need to replace it with something else. I'm a big fan of Hiscox cases---anyone know if a 35" TRB1005 will fit? I read somewhere that the Hiscox cases are a bit tight in terms of length. The "EBP" model claims to be for longer basses but I'd rather know for sure before buying one... Any other recommendations for cases? I'd probably rather have something with shoulder straps and a couple of pockets but I'm more interested in weight/protection really. Thanks

11. Provided you look after them properly there's no reason an old bass would be more likely to fail than a new one. The main reason not to gig a vintage bass is the worry that it will get stolen or damaged.
12.
Well this was a session that they were just thrown together on. He'd worked with this drummer in the past on a number of occasions and on each occasion he'd be warned by all band members about his speeding up. He'd be drinking too which didn't help either. I reckon that on that night, my mate just wasn't taking any prisoners. He's usually a reasonably mild mannered bloke too. I'd be pissed off too if a repeatedly warned band member who liked a sherbert was taking absolutely no notice of the mistakes he was making despite repeatedly being told he was doing so. Apart from making himself look like a dickhead, he was making everyone else look stupid too, which, when you think about the time and effort they have all spent to practice on their instruments is just not on.
I have to be honest---the drummer might have been out of line but your mate also behaved like a grade A bell end too. Having a barney on-stage in front of a crowd is just a big no-no. Finish the set/gig and have words afterwards.
13. I went from a 4 string jazz to a 5 string yamaha trb without any real trouble and I've got teeny girly sized hands.
14. Gorgeous bass. Just out of interest, do fender currently make any shell pink models or is it custom shop only?
15. ***on hold pending the usual***
16. I don't see the point in a minimum post count. All it does is encourage forum spamming. If someone with a low post count wants to sell something thats fine with me. I just might take a few precautions (ask for VERY specific pictures, a phone number, etc). Any genuine seller will understand. Plus, its not like a high post count is a guarantee that you're not going to get ripped off (I've seen several sh**storms at other forums where regular users have ripped people off).
17.
Hi Where is this pedal located?
On a shelf, in my spare room... Serious answer: Glasgow
18. Hey folks Acquired this about a month ago but I prefer my DHA VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive so this is now surplus to my needs. I'm sure you all know the score with these pedals. Built like a tank, sounds great. Boxed, and with manual. The box itself is a little tatty and the pedal has a few scuffs but works perfectly. £105 posted in the UK. NOW SOLD THANKS
19. Sold a pedal to James. Paid quickly, friendly emails. Cheers!
20. 90% of internet tabs are inaccurate. I use them as a starting point and then use my ears to get it right. Some slow down software (I use audacity) also helps.
21.
I'm heading towards this
Wow. I think I just found my dream "money no object" bass.
22. Bought a pedal from Alan last week. Very friendly comms, quick delivery (I paid on Thursday and had the pedal on Friday) and well packed. Would happily deal with him again.
23.
Which is exactly as it should be. Getting an audience in through the door is the responsibility of both the venue/promotor and the bands playing there. As a band member I think there is little point in playing almost no-one - especially if you've spent 2+ hours getting there. I don't expect any venue that we go and play to have a ready-made audience, so for a first gig in a new town we will pull out all the stops to make sure that everyone we know who lives in the area, is aware that we will be playing in their locality.
I agree, it works both ways. Promoters should do their jobs but bands should also do their bit. Nobody wins if you're playing to an empty room. The problem is that there are far too many unrealistic expectations on both sides of the fence.
24.
I refinished my 78 P last year in Capri Orange. Now with the proper black screws. Also, as I'm on a reggae tip, I've gone for RS black nylon tapewounds.
Thats one of the tastiest basses I've ever seen. WANT!
25. This is an interesting read http://songbytoad.com/2011/07/a-few-reasons-promoters-and-bands-dont-get-along/
