1. No substitute for trying them and deciding for yourself.
 2.
Thanks for the replies folks The Coronado body is someone elses unfinished project, bare wood and is only routed for neck and the f holes are done, so its a blank canvas......the neck pocket and the EB-0 neck are the same dimensions so the neck should fit, perhaps with a little fettling, then its a matter of locating the bridge at the EB-0 scale length, which I will measure on the neck donor.....rout for the pickup, drill for the wiring and pots etc and paint, if the poles on the EB-0 pickup are far enough apart to go for the MM position then thats where it will go, if not it will be centred on the 24th fret location as it was on the donor...... I've built several partscaster guitars so am fairly confident its achievable....... Paul
Sounds good. Good luck with it. We will need to see pics of the progress please.
 3.
Ellio Martina isn't out of business, he lives 5 minutes from my house, but I doubt he knows how to use a computer. Guy is old school. If you're interested I can call him and find out of he has some availible.
That's good but I've heard several people saying they get no response over the years ... but the site is updated for 2015 LBGS.
 4.
there's this too http://www.bassmute...._mainframe.html
The OP mentions that one but can't any replies to emails. I think because they are out of business.
 5.
There's a kit available from Allparts to add a mute to a Fender vintage bridge - needs the bridge cover, mind http://www.allparts....string-mute-kit
That sounds like a Fender Jazz vintage mutes. Unfortunately no pic. Vintage Precision mutes were glued under the bridge cover.
 6.
... not sure about the scale lenght (site says it's 33") I'm wondering where the hell I will be able to find strings for that...
My feeling is that's probably an error and it's much more likely 30"
 7.
... Guild basses are generally well made but have never been popular, not only short scale and very narrow at the nut end, ok if you have small hands, otherwise quite uncomfortable...
I don't have small hands, I like a 1.75" Precision neck, but I have always found the Guild Starfire neck very comfortable. It's clear there is a subjective element to anything we say about this matter.
 8. There is little comparison between these two basses and also neither compares with a Precision bass. The Guild pickups are single coils not humbuckers (as BA says). The two pickup Starfire will have a wider range of tones than the single pickup version. I've only once played a Danelectro and I'd say it feels like a bit of a toy in comparison. Neither is a replacement for a Precision bass.
 9. I don't really believe in so-called sweet spots because such a spot would move every time you fretted a note ... but that's not to say that pickups don't sound different in different positions. However, where you position the pickup will need to take account of the string spacing in relation to the spacing of the poles of the pickup. You'll want them to match up. Similarly, You'll need to position the bridge carefully to get the right scale length - a Coronado has a 21 fret neck and 30" scale but an Epiphone EBO has only 20 frets but a 30.5" scale. If you are using the Epiphone neck you will need to use the Epiphone scale length.
 10. It's 35 years ago so my memory is very possibly fallible. The Hondo II was at least similar if not the same.
 11.
Thanks ET. Forgot to get round to it.
Well, thank you I think.
 12. I think I once had the 6-string guitar version of that - it was labelled Hondo II.
 13. Seeing as he hasn't linked it himself, leftybassman392's stuff on ancient Greek music is here ... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/59011-ancient-greek-music/ Recommended if you are interested in this stuff.
 14. For flats on a Rickenbacker listen to middle to late period Beatles.
 15. It's nonsense to think that a neck is in danger while the strings are off. It's only ten minutes or so. In the factory the necks are unstringed for ages while they wait to be used. If you are having work done on frets then strings have to be off.
 16. The most commonly used La Bellas are the 760FL set. Do not string through the body. If you use the Lakland flats which are in fact GHS Precision flats (3050M) then through the body is generally thought to be OK. Through body is, however, not necessary even when it's possible.
 17.
Forgive my ignorance. What does YMMV stand for?
Your mileage may vary ... meaning others will disagree. They may disagree with the acronym too.
 18. My one experience of BassDirect was through a series of three fruitless and time wasted phonecalls. For me, never again, YMMV.
 19.
Not all deps have notice. I have had many calls along the lines of.... 'Gig'? 'When'? 'Now'.
One time, I arrived to watch the gig. Guitarist says 'hi, you don't happen to have brought a bass with you do you?' Turned out their bassist had the date wrong and was in Norway. It could have been worse.
 20.
Shall we let it die?
No, instead please tell us what will replace the ACG.
 21.
Can you even paint a bass in automotive lacquer?.

I remember reading somewhere that the classic '60s fender colours were automotive finishes...don't quote me on that though.
They are car colours originally. 1965 Mercury Comet in Ocean Turquoise:
 22.
This must be the most extreme case ever of a disguised advert. Do you think Davey-Schmavey has managed to sell his Wal yet?
No, but I believe he has had several offers for his sideboard.
 23.
So - quite a number of posters have mentioned the gains they have made by selling on Wals for 2, 3 and 4 x the original cost. I can't help but draw parallels between art lovers who invest in art as opposed to those who are invested in the art - if you get my distinction. Is a Wal bass an investment (like property in a good area) or is it a purchase from the heart? The people should know! (or something like that).
Those options are not mutually exclusive.
