Jay Z couldn't really sing either but at least there was an element of humour given Noel Gallagher's earlier remarks.
Will using lighter strings on a short scale bass give more bottom end, due to the increased tension? Ta.
Lighter gauge strings (all other construction factors being unchanged) will likely have decreased tension at the same pitch.

Advice about adjusting the neck on my bass
EssentialTension replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
Hi folks, I'm after a little help. My bass is making a rather nasty buzzing noise when I play the lower (E and A) strings from about the 7th to the 11th fret. Given how hot its been over the past few days I'm guessing that the neck may have moved a little and it will need to be adjusted to compensate. I've never done this before and I'm a little nervous about how to go about doing so. I've had a read around the internet but I would appreciate some solid guidelines to follow from someone here as I trust you folks a lot more than some random website / you-tuber who may or may not know what they are talking about. Best wishes James
I wouldn't necessarily be adjusting the truss rod for a change in the weather. This is England. You say it's a 'rather nasty buzzing'. Just how 'nasty' is that? Some people like a bit of fret rattle but I hate it. But I would raise the bridge saddles a smidge before I started playing with the truss rod for the weather. But for a reliable guide check out Carl Pedigo ex-Lakland luthier: https://www.youtube....ECE612F2206994F -
Tapewounds is good. I have used TI flats too. My Takamine B10 is wearing La Bella 760FS flats.

Well spotted, thanks for that.

As I never liked the sound of Entwistle, I prefer Palladino. To me The Who sound like a better band with Palladino. I've seen Townsend interviewed somewhere and saying he didn't like Entwistle's tone.
At Glastonbury that neck pick up had a white cover and resembled a Telecaster bass neck humbucker without the chrome cover.
I didn't notice that and there may be a clue below ... I got the pic from Bass Gallery Facebook page 31/03/15 https://www.facebook.com/thebassgalleryuk?ref=stream&hc_location=stream
A familiar face stopped by today to pick up a couple of his basses that have been in the workshop getting some mods...! Pictured here is our friend Pino Palladino with his signature Fender Custom Shop loaded with a couple of Gibson Thunderbird pickups that he's being using on a recent tour with D'Angelo & The Who. Martin, over the weekend, fitted it with an additional 70's Gibson EB neck pickup... What a beast of a bass!! (seriously, I want one myself) Also he brought in a Squier VM Telecaster Bass Special that has now been fitted with a Korg Kaoss Pad Mini 2S. Watch this space...

The bass started out with the T-bird pickups, and the EB pickup looks like a new addition. I guess he can get different Entwistle eras with different pickup combinations. I don't see a decal on the headstock.
Apparently the EB pickup was added by the Bass Gallery; that's where the pic is from. The unclear decal has led some to suggest it might be a Bluesman. Here's a Bluesman Jazz bass:
I used to use a full tone trem with a bass vi and it was luscious. Sure a bit of reverb would be nice too. Loads out there to choose from.
That's an expensive tremolo. Would you say its lusciousness was worth it?
-
Ok thanks, that's what I want to hear. Although I should say that I am not using the Bass VI as a regular bass and I have never used any effects on a regular bass.
Forgive me if I've missed something but are they doing another run of the single pickup model? I really regret not getting one before when I had the chance.
The single pickup version is available in cherry red and in black. Thomann have them. The natural mahogany two pickup is due in August ... or so I am told.
What is Pino's bass? I've never seen a Fender like that before....
Fender Custom Shop with two Gibson Thunderbird pickups and then an added Gibson EB neck humbucker.
You're Right! My bad, I looked the name of the bassist in the wrong place Thanks for the correction! It's great to be new here in Basschat and learn BTW This post has brought me to rescue listen again the Hugh Masekela discography, so thanks to Mykesbass
It could easily have been Carol Kaye and Wikipedia is not always correct. -
Of course you won't like it if it's hip hop. I have never had a conversation with a middle aged white bloke about Kanye... or even classic hip hop (DMC/PE etc.)
So middle aged white blokes don't like hiphop. You're talking ridiculous nonsense.
I don't want to hijack your thread, but I'd be interested too....
Feel free because no one else is posting. I wondered about multi-effect too.
I think in this record Carole Kaye plays the bass.
According to Wikipedia it was Henry Franklin -
OK. I missed that bit. In that case. . . .what? Mike Rutherford (and about half a dozen others) before Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Nate Watts, David Hood, Cornell C Williams and George Porter Jr!!
and Jimmy Blanton etc etc etc
-
It's not claiming to be the 50 greatest bassists. So it's just a list.
It does say The 50 Greatest Bass Players.

When the spotify example of James Jamerson playing is Motorhead's Ace of Spades you know it's total sh**e. I actually knew before that but it's something to say.

Any Bass VIers using effects? I've been using: Boss TR2 tremolo Boss CEB chorus Boss FRV reverb ... which all work fine, although I found the reverb slightly disappointing, but I'm considering a bigger financial outlay for one or more of: EHX B9 (and/or C9) Organ Machine Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail Analog Delay Tech 21 Rotochoir. I'd be interested to hear any experience with those or other effects on a Bass VI or similar.
