The 'strangle' switch cuts the output substantially.
Thanks for this, I just ordered some to cheat on my DB and stick some on the side of the neck
Edgar Meyer has some down the middle of his neck .... 'some of my favourite notes' I think he said.

When you get compliments on your playing
EssentialTension replied to anaxcrosswords's topic in General Discussion
Mrs ET tells me that she is reliably informed by her Spanish flamenco dance teacher that when receiving a compliment such as 'You are looking gorgeous' or 'Your dancing is tremendous' the correct response is ............ 'Yes, I know'. -

'Pyramid Gold' strings are not gold, they are nickel. 'Gold' is just the name of the string.

Not having been to an open mic night since about 1980, I have made the foolish error of judging guitarists not according to open mic night standards.

The VT pedal does colour the sound but how much it does so depends on where you set the controls. If you set the 'character' and 'drive' controls low then the colouration is less. I like it but there's no telling whether you will like it without using one.

Guitarists also use a capo to produce a different quality of sound from the strings, a different timbre, without changing key. This is especially helpful when two guitarists work together using different inversions with one using a capo say five frets up and playing appropriate chord shapes while the other uses open string chords. I'd say that is the main purpose of a capo.

I'm not usually very keen on that style of bass playing. I tend to think 'get a guitar', but I liked the Thundercat stuff.
Ahh, thanks. I only own 2 basses, and both are 24. I understand now. I knew it would be something fairly simple, but i just could not get my head around it. Thanks for the replies
Take one of your 24 fret, 34" scale basses. Tune it down one whole tone to DGCF. Put a capo on the second fret. Now you have a 22 fret, 30.3" scale bass tuned EADG.

String through body vs string through bridge (again)
EssentialTension replied to Brother Jones's topic in General Discussion
Unless you tune to a different note or change the strings for a different gauge or manufacturer, then there can be no difference in tension. One may, and I do mean 'may', experience an apparent change in compliance or elasticity. I have never noticed that myself. But the physics of it means that one would expect the string to feel tighter (i.e. less compliant) when strung through bridge and looser (i.e. more compliant) when strung through the body - because of the extra length of string beyond the witness point supposedly allowed greater flexibility along the length of the whole string. BigRedX's link is very useful. -
A problem I've noticed with a lot of 'demos' is that they're demonstrating a bass using high end amplifiers and generally seem to use the video as a method to show off their chops. The Bass Whisperer is the only one who I find does demo's where you actually get an idea of what the bass sounds like.
I agree that Ed Friedland does some of the better demos but he also makes everything sound good and makes everything sound like him.
... If you've never owned or played one of these basses, they aren't that good to be honest ... They have a horrible tone and lack versatility. I'm sure the copies or another brand of bass altogether will be better. Think of all of the other amazing types of basses you could buy for the money instead of wasting your bread on a Rickenbacker.
Is that what you told the guy before he bought it from you?
Just an update here. When I bought this it came in a gig bag, however it should've come in a hard case. There was a lack of cases due to Fender pulling out of distribution. Had a call from Wunjo today, Guild have a new distributor and I'm getting a brand spanker hard case!
I think if someone takes someone to court for plagiarism and wins they should only be entitled to a certain percentage of the profit. Using a music stand in a covers band
EssentialTension replied to bonzodog's topic in General Discussion
I saw Dr John and the Nitetrippers yesterday. Everyone had a music stand and many songs were covers. It was great. -
... I wonder if Prince ever took any steps regarding Sussudio, by Phil Collins - which sounds remarkably like the Purple ones 1999?
On the subject of Prince, I recall seeing an interview with James Brown where the interviewer asked Brown 'do you like Prince?'. Brown replied that he did like Prince. Then, when asked why he liked Prince, Brown replied 'Because he pays me for the samples'.
