What is this imaginary but certain standard?

A musician who makes all their money from composition and none from playing fails the most obvious test for 'pro player' but, it seems to me, easily passes a test for 'pro musician'. The so-called 'pro player' also passes the 'pro musician' test but may fail the 'pro composer' test. So, being a 'professional musician' is not restricted to 'players', nor restricted to 'composers' Or is the OP only asking about 'pro players'? The thread is entitled simply BTW .. What is a Pro..??

Higher action is normal on an acoustic. Makes it ring out more because the strings have space to vibrate.

So that's when people say to themselves: 'Ah proper musicians with music stands, I think I'll stay.'

Does the piano player need two pianos?

I don't really get this 'it doesn't resonate because I am too old'. The earliest hiphop dates from the 1970s and even before that you could find similar elements in, for example, Caribbean toasting and in talking blues - so it seems to me more a case of what you were listening to than whether you are the right age. I am 62 but I was 27 when 'Rapper's Delight' was released.

Joe Osborn, Jazz bass with flats - lots of Simon and Garfunkel, 5th Dimension, and other West Coast sixties pop. Lots of sixties Uk pop with John Paul Jones on Jazz with flats. Check out earlly Scott Walker albums. Etc etc and often with a pick.

No one says 'two tops are worth £218 pounds', they would say £220, or even just £200.
