1.
It's just a place for middle class hippies and hipsters to go 'crazy' for the weekend and tell their mates.
A bit like the Eurovision song contest?
 2. How many years has it been on the telly?
 3. I imagine it is to maximize acoustic volume. But just put the flats on, you know it makes sense.
 4. TU2 tuner and VT bass and that's it. I do have tremolo, chorus and reverb for my Bass VI but that's at home only.
 5. Rod Stewart, like him or not, does have a long record (no pun intended) of interpreting other people's songs (and making them his own) as well as writing his own. It was also true of the Faces, e.g. Maybe I'm Amazed, I Know I'm Losing You etc.
 6.
They'll be saying next that Sailing isn't a Rod original. Is nothing sacred?
If we must ... http://youtu.be/poDjuRlaNAg
 7.
I prefer Led Zeppelin's cover of Rolf Harris's Stairway to Heaven.
I read somewhere that Harris had never heard the Led Zeppelin (or any other) version and so learned the song merely from the sheet music as he didn't want to be influenced by anyone else.
 8.
Disagreed, very much so. Starting to feel quite lonely here in the pro-Cocker camp.
I like Cocker usually, and certainly liked the Grease Band but not that cover as the definitive version. I also don't get why anyone would think that every Dylan cover is better. Hendrix's version of Like a Rolling Stone is nothing on the Dylan version, IMO
 9.
Really? The Beatles version is OK, but I can't stand Joe Cockers version all the histrionics just seem so fake to me.
Agreed.
 10.
Ah...yer, that's the one....lol....
Of course, it's a Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller song so, while the Drifters version may well be the original public release of the song, the Drifters are not themselves the origin of the song. The distinction between 'original' and 'cover' often breaks down.
 11.
It probably is. But everyone knows it's Rod Stewart's song. Even the Stereophonics said it was a cover of Rod Stewart's!
Sorry I missed the joke first time. 🌚
 12.
Marvin Gaye's I Heard it Through the Grapevine was I believe the THIRD release of that song. So it could be a winner. I hope no one is going to suggest Creedence is better?
Well, I looked that up and it seems that first recording was the Miracles but not released, then Gaye but also not released, then Gladys Knight released and went to #2. Then Gaye version released on an album and eventually as a single.
 13.
How did they manage to cover it before it was written?
Huh? Written 1967 by Mike D'Abo, demo version recorded but not released. Released 1967 by Chris Farlowe. Released 1969 by Rod Stewart. Is that not correct?
 14. Marvin Gaye's I Heard it Through the Grapevine was I believe the THIRD release of that song. So it could be a winner. I hope no one is going to suggest Creedence is better?
 15.
We've been down this road before on here and what it has revealed on more than a few occasions is that the song that people assume or take to be the original version actually isn't.
It is surprising how often that is the case.
 16.
Jealous Guy by Roxy Music is the version I prefer, rather than John Lennons. Also like Stereophonics version of Handbags and The Gladrags better than Rod Stewarts.
Two years before Rod Stewart was the Chris Farlowe version of Mike D'Abo's Handbags and Gladrags.
 17. Again I'd ask why are you changing strings for the studio, older usually sounds better with flats. La Bella 760FL (i.e 43-60-82-104) are the most commonly used La Bella flats. I wouldn't be too worried about the slight differences in gauge. 760FL don't really like stringing through body but La Bella do do sets that are for through body stringing - 750FL-TB http://www.labella.com/products/760fl-tb/
 18.
They don't seem to so a 36" set for 5 strings.
Set JF365
 19.
Was at bass lessons last night and our teacher was trying to teach us the major scales now I understand that you can play the scales in various ways positions etc but to me learning the notes on the neck should come first ,
If you want to learn where the notes are on the fretboard then why don't you just learn them. It's not hard and won't take long. They go in alphabetical order A to G with a few sharps added in.
 20.
Has anyone actually read what the OP wrote? He's not asking you to answer here, but to PM or email him ...
Yes but imagine his inbox. It's better like this.
 21. 1. How long have you been playing your instrument? - 40 years 2. Do you use an electronic tuner? If yes which model? - Boss TU12, Boss TU2 3. Do you tune by ear or electronic tuner? - BOTH 4. If by ear how do you go about? TUNE THE STRINGS TO EACH OTHER AFTER TUNING ONE TO A FIXED NOTE ON E.G. PIANO. 5. Are you always 100% happy with your tuning? / if not TUNING IS FINE 6. Why are you not happy with your tuning? I AM HAPPY 7. What disturbs you about the electronic tuner NOTHING AT ALL 8. Do you know how to tune by ear? OF COURSE 9. What is your preferred tuning method? TUNER
 22. There should be a Squier Classic Vibe reissue of the XII. They'd sell lots of them.
 23. ... and Pyramid Gold flats on a guitar ... http://youtu.be/sEa01UgJ6mo
 24.
How do Pyramids stack up against TI's and Bella's?
Pyramid Gold Bass Flats are some where between TIs and La Bellas both in tone and tension and with a rather fetching lilac silk at both ends. http://youtu.be/RcDHtBPB85o
