2. Schallers. Grolsch gives me a headache.
 3. If I want more treble I move my fingers nearer the bridge. If I want less treble I move my fingers nearer the neck.
 4. The demos are good, keep it up.
 5. Mind you, gig last week, I was thinking it didn't sound that great. But at the end several people going 'great bass sound'. So it was a good job I couldn't be bothered to try to make it sound 'better'.
 6. Mostly plug and play. If it's a bit trebly, then I turn the treble down. That's about it.

 10.
Surprisingly early on they started using polyester on all guitars. http://www.caraguita...fullerplast.htm
I don't see what the dirty little secret is and nor do I understand why the writer complains about Fullerplast being plastic when nitrocellulose is plastic too isn't it, as are polyurethane and polyester.
 11. I'm glad it was useful but of course it seems to imply that there is no straight answer to your question - with Fender 'never say never'.
 12. Have a look here: http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fenderc.html
During 1963 and 1964, when guitar production was really high, bodies destine to be a custom color often didn't get the yellow stain, Fullerplast, primer, and clear coat procedure. After all, if the shop was really in a hurry it can just spray the color coat right over the Alder without any preparation paint (if need be). All they did was spray more color coats (especially if a clear coat wasn't used). This would cost more in materials (custom color paint was the most expensive paint Fender used), but it sure was quick. And often, they didn't even clear coat the color. This was truly a "rush" paint job. Some colors were really prone to "short cutting" by the Fender factory. For example, Sonic Blue (and to a lesser extent, Olympic White) often do not have the yellow stain. In the case of Sonic Blue, this might have happened because the yellow stain was bleeding through to the blue. Other pastel colors were also shorted cutted, having no yellow stain, no Fullerplast, and/or no clear coat.

 13. Some early 60s Fenders in custom colours were sunburst under the custom colour. They were resprayed straight over the sunburst.

 16.
The bassline on Candi Staton's version of that song is played, I am pretty sure, by Dennis Bellfield.
He is commonly credited around the web as the bassist on that Candi Staton album: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/dennis-bellfield-mn0001530317
 17.
Is it, though? Probably in the slow section which was cut out of the single version and never featured in Candi Staton's version at all but in the main intro/ verse/ chorus riff I hear no bass- only synth which would have been played on a keyboard, presumably by Blue Weaver? This takes me back... When the Bee Gees came out with their new sound (Jive Talkin, Nights on Broadway etc) all the talk was that Maurice had taken to playing a Rickenbacker "Stereo" as we all called the 4001 in those days. Remember there was no internet so it was not at all easy to get any information on this stuff. All I knew was that my Rick didn't sound anything like that even played through my Electro Harmonix Micro Synth! Agreed the Candi Staton version is uber funky but a quick glance on the net doesn't bring up any info on who the personnel were. Cheers Ed
I've seen an interview with Maurice Gibb where he talks about his bass playing on Main Course and how Arif Mardin (the producer) got him to play stuff he would not have done on his own. I think Maurice would commonly do some keyboard playing when the band played live - even if Blue Weaver was there too - but he is not credited with any keyboard work on Main Course. That's no guarantee that he didn't do some bass on a synth or clavinet or something.
 18.
Once you take your bass to a gig, run it up to gig volume levels, add a drummer, a guitarist or two, maybe a keyboard player, and stick this through your average pa... (Not forgetting boomy stages, weird shaped venues and a couple of hundred people,) could anyone tell whether it was maple, rosewood or concrete ?
Nope.
 19. On the price, it's very difficult to say without (1) knowing exactly what you are getting and (2) actually seeing and playing it but my guess is that (3) it's not a bargain.
 20.
...should the fingerboard make a perfect curve? (see the pictures)

My fingerboard has a "flat spot" under the E string. What gives? You may have seen some bass fingerboards with a sharp rise or beveled edge that runs the entire length of the board, between the A and E string on some basses. It is called the "Romberg Bevel." That shape is a throwback from when big fat E strings crawled the earth -- the bevel gives more clearance for that string to vibrate. With newer string technology, it's no longer a necessity and many luthiers and builders have phased it out. Some folks prefer it, some don't; it's probably just a matter of what you're used to, but no biggie IMHO. - http://www.gollihurmusic.com/faq/15-FINGERBOARDS_FOR_UPRIGHT_BASS_WHATS_TO_KNOW.html
21.
I'm a badge snob that also drives a Skoda Work that one out!
I had the badge nicked off my Skoda. Work that one out!
 22.
That wasn't a passing of judgement on Skoda E.T. It was an admission of being shallow.
No such judgement taken. I too have to admit to preferring Fender on the headstock but it wouldn't in the end stop me buying or playing a Squier.
